The creature didn't attack. It let out a low, melodic hum that vibrated in Kaelen's marrow. It pointed a long, clawed finger toward the north, where a permanent storm of blue lightning raged on the horizon.
"It wants to lead us," Kaelen realized.
"Or lead us into a trap," Lyra countered.
"The Sentinels are behind us, and Silas's airships are above us," Kaelen said, looking at the creature's embers-like eyes. "This is the only ally we have who knows the terrain. We follow the Walker."
The creature moved with a silent, gliding gait, effortlessly traversing snowdrifts that would have swallowed a man. Under its guidance, they moved twice as fast, weaving through the "Graveyard of Giants" miles of skeletal skyscraper ruins buried in ice.
