Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Unanswered Expectations

Anisa waited longer than she had expected.

The house was unusually quiet, the ticking of the clock growing louder with every passing minute. She checked her phone again and again, hoping to see Zayan's name light up the screen. Tonight was supposed to be special, their anniversary. She had imagined a simple dinner, quiet conversations, maybe even a small smile from him that would make the distance between them feel smaller. 🙃

By the time the clock showed 12:30 a.m., her hope had thinned into silence.

Her phone finally vibrated. 📳

> "I won't be able to come home today. Due to heavy fog in the city, the roads have been closed. I'm really sorry that we won't be able to celebrate our anniversary today. Let's celebrate it properly after I return."

Anisa read the message more than once. She didn't reply immediately. She placed the phone beside her and stared at the dark window, her reflection looking back at her, tired, disappointed, and quietly understanding. She told herself that this was reasonable. Fog was beyond anyone's control. Yet, the loneliness didn't fade.

At the same time, in another part of the city, Zahra sent a similar message. 📲

She had told Yugh that she was going out to watch a music concert. The city lights blurred through the mist as she typed her message, apologizing for not being able to return early. The words were polite, distant, nothing more than necessary.

Yugh read the message while standing alone in the softly decorated room. Balloons rested untouched, a small cake sat on the table, and a wrapped gift waited quietly nearby. He had planned a surprise birthday party for Zahra, imagining her smile, her laughter, the moment she would realize how much he cared. 🎂

But the night didn't unfold the way he had hoped.

As the hours passed, the decorations felt heavier, the silence deeper. Yugh slowly turned off the lights, accepting that his plans had failed, just like Anisa accepted her unanswered expectations. 🙇

That night, two people waited, with love in their hearts and disappointment in their hands, while the city remained wrapped in fog, hiding more than just the roads. 😣
