Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Cloak and the Chairs

Chapter 25: The Cloak and the Chairs

The two remaining girls couldn't simply let them leave. Their leader was still sprawled and unmoving on the floor. To let this Gryffindor intruder walk away with 'Loony' Lovegood would make them the biggest joke in Ravenclaw history.

Flushed with shame and fury, they scrambled to their feet. Two bolts of spell-light shot from their wands toward Elian's retreating back. Whether it was a cowardly sneak attack didn't cross their minds.

Gasps erupted from the onlookers. This had gone too far. Some shut their eyes, unable to watch. Others smirked, eager to see the arrogant Gryffindor and his mad friend get what they deserved.

The two fourth-years were confident. They might not be prodigies, but their spells were more than enough for a first-year. And this idiot was holding someone, his back completely exposed. He couldn't possibly defend himself.

But then, something impossible happened.

Elian didn't even flinch. He simply stopped walking.

The strange red cloak draped over his shoulders, however, did not stay still. It detached itself, swirling through the air to position itself like a living shield between him and the incoming spells.

How?

Shock rippled through the crowd. Was it a charmed object? But what kind of charm could block spells so effortlessly?

The two girls stared, their confidence wavering. They saw only determination in each other's eyes. They had to break through.

"Stupefy!"

"Flipendo!"

More spells flew from their wands, each one striking the hovering cloak. Each one fizzled into nothingness against the fabric, leaving no mark, not even a shimmer. The cloak hung in the air, impassive and immovable.

Elian finally turned his head, his gaze cold as he looked over his shoulder at the frantic girls. A hard glint flashed in his eyes. Their spells weren't meant to kill, but they were meant to hurt, to humiliate. They showed no restraint, only a petty, vicious desperation.

While they were focused entirely on their futile assault, they forgot to watch their own surroundings.

THUMP!

THUMP!

Two more heavy wooden chairs, summoned by Elian's silent, furious will, shot from the sides of the common room. They connected solidly, sending both girls flying with identical cries of pain before they crumpled to the floor, unconscious.

The silence in the Ravenclaw common room was now absolute, broken only by the ragged breathing of the shocked students.

Three students down. No wand drawn. No incantation spoken. Just a floating cloak and flying furniture.

Every Ravenclaw mind, trained for logic and reason, short-circuited. How? The boy hadn't moved! He was holding Lovegood! Where was his wand? What kind of magic was this?

Elian spared one last icy glance for the three unconscious forms. He had no words for them. Adjusting his grip on Luna, he turned and strode out of the common room, heading straight for the Hospital Wing. Luna, held securely in his arms, showed no expression, her distant eyes fixed thoughtfully on the new shoes now on her feet.

The second gift, she thought. They're very new.

Looking down at her detached calm, Elian felt his own anger melt into exasperated fondness. How could anyone not want to protect someone like her?

Madam Pomfrey had Luna fixed up with a wave of her wand, the Jelly-Legs Jinx dissolving easily. But when a group of pale, trembling Ravenclaws arrived shortly after, carrying three unconscious students, the hospital wing descended into chaos.

"Merlin's beard! Were you attacked by a mountain troll?" the matron cried, bustling over to direct the students to lay the girls on beds. "What in heaven's name happened?"

The Ravenclaws merely cast terrified, sidelong glances at Elian and Luna sitting quietly nearby, too afraid to speak. This Gryffindor wasn't just bold; he was terrifying.

Madam Pomfrey followed their looks and understood. A duel. A bad one.

The news spread through Hogwarts like Fiendfyre. By dinnertime, everyone knew: the strange first-year from Gryffindor had stormed the Ravenclaw common room and taken down three older students.

On Madam Pomfrey's firm advice, Elian and Luna remained in the hospital wing. This was far beyond a simple detention. It required the heads of house.

They didn't have to wait long. The sound of hurried, angry footsteps echoed down the corridor, followed by a shrill, outraged voice that preceded its owner.

"Minerva, I demand an explanation! How dare a Gryffindor student invade my house's common room and assault my pupils!"

The door to the hospital wing burst open.
