Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Google and Android

When it comes to the Android system, if Mavi were to develop it, he definitely wouldn't follow the same path as in his past life. Android and iOS—these two operating systems form the backbone of smartphones, yet their profitability couldn't be more different!

The reason for this disparity lies in how Android was originally developed. Google partnered with dozens of companies to create it, using Java as the programming language. Compared to Apple's Objective-C, Java was far less efficient and speedy.

As a result, Android lagged behind iOS not only in service and performance but also in management, maintenance, and revenue collection. This vicious cycle naturally made the gap between the two systems increasingly clear.

Drawing from his past life's lessons, Mavi was determined to pour money into Android once he earned enough. It had to match iOS in performance, and as for revenue—he'd go with the same 30% cut. Sweet profits!

With these plans brewing in his mind, an hour later, Mavi's Hummer convoy arrived at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C. There, he spotted the stunning Jennifer, who had just stepped out with her friends.

Jennifer had clearly put effort into her outfit today. She wore a pure white pleated dress from a luxury brand, revealing just the right amount of her long, slender, fair-skinned legs.

Her delicate waist was accentuated perfectly by the dress, and her well-proportioned curves, hugged by the fabric and her bra, looked both full and perky. Combined with her elegant and refined face, she was like a goddess straight out of a manga—turning heads left and right as she passed through the hotel lobby.

As Jennifer and her friends exited the hotel, they saw Mavi leaning casually against a silver Lotus Elise. The sports car's sleek and eye-catching design didn't just attract the attention of male guests at the hotel—passing foreign women also found themselves drawn to its charm.

"Hey." As a gentleman, Mavi took the initiative and waved to greet Jennifer.

Having not seen him in over a month, Jennifer was filled with mixed emotions. She didn't immediately acknowledge him. Instead, she bit her lower lip lightly, her gaze carrying a hint of resentment—but within that resentment was also a trace of happiness.

"Jennifer, that handsome guy is waving at you. I think he likes you!" said one of her friends, who wasn't one of the two girls Mavi had met last time. So, they had no idea about the relationship between Jennifer and Mavi.

Jennifer bit her lip even harder before muttering, "If only he really did…"

This past month of no contact had left her frustrated to no end. She had plenty of admirers around her, yet Mavi acted as if he didn't care at all—not even the slightest bit anxious.

At times, she considered giving up, ignoring him completely and not replying to his messages. But before long, she'd change her mind. Every time she saw a message from him, she felt a tiny thrill of happiness and satisfaction—something she had never experienced before, something no one else could give her.

"Oh? You two know each other?" Her friend, sharp-witted as any wealthy heiress' companion would be, quickly caught on. Jennifer's reaction made it clear that she had special feelings for this Lotus-driving handsome guy. Something was definitely going on between them.

"Jennifer, we'll head off first. Bye-bye~" Sensing the situation, her friends quickly made their exit. No one wanted to be the third wheel.

"Mm, bye." Jennifer watched them leave, then turned back to Mavi, folding her arms across her chest as she stood before him. Her gaze was filled with even heavier resentment—like she was staring at a heartless scoundrel.

Mavi noticed her posture and shrugged. Then, for no particular reason, he mimicked her stance, folding his arms too—it was surprisingly comfortable.

Jennifer blinked at him and frowned. "Why are you copying me?"

"Am I?" Mavi asked innocently, pretending not to know what she was talking about.

After more than a month of texting, their relationship had grown much closer. Their conversations often involved playful banter, teasing, and lighthearted arguments—essentially, flirting.

"Hmph, you totally are! You're doing it on purpose! And what about last week? You promised we'd meet!" Jennifer lifted her chin slightly, trying to look imposing as she questioned him about why he had stood her up.

But just as she was halfway into her "dominant stance," Mavi straightened up, effortlessly dismantling her attempt at intimidation.

"There was an issue at the company last week. We got hit by a hacker attack, so I couldn't make it," Mavi explained truthfully. Blizzard's website had nearly crashed due to overwhelming player traffic, coupled with a hacker attack.

Fortunately, the problem was resolved in time, so there were no losses. But Mavi suspected that it wasn't just a random cyberattack—it was probably orchestrated by a jealous competitor.

As the saying goes, "The more famous you are, the more trouble follows." Mavi was starting to understand that all too well.

"A hacker attack? Was it serious? Did you suffer any losses?" Jennifer asked with concern. She knew when to play around and when to be serious.

"Luckily, we handled it in time, so there was no damage. But people can be ruthless," Mavi sighed, shaking his head. If he ever found out which bastard was behind it, he'd make sure they paid dearly.

"Oh, that's good to hear." Now that she knew the reason for his absence, Jennifer let go of her resentment.

"Get in. We're going to see an opera." Mavi opened the car door for her. The opera they were attending was Carmen, one of the world's top ten operas—a suggestion from Jennifer.

To be honest, Mavi wasn't particularly interested in Western stage performances. But since he had never watched one live before, he was curious to experience it.

Opera and musical theater are vastly different. Opera is primarily a musical art form—"beauty first, theme second." Musicals, on the other hand, are more about storytelling—"theme first, beauty second."

Even the structure of an opera house differs greatly. Wealthier patrons can purchase private boxes on the second or third floor, enjoying an uninterrupted, exclusive experience.

Mavi and Jennifer had seats in a third-floor private box—perfectly positioned for an optimal view of the stage. The space was also private enough that no one would notice whatever they might be up to.

If they wanted to take things even further, the box had curtains that could be drawn shut—keeping prying eyes at bay and ensuring complete privacy.
