Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: A Room Full of Gold

Regardless of his past or present life, Mavi had never been to Dubai, nor had he ever stayed at the seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel.

So, he figured it was necessary to experience it at least once, while also taking the opportunity to think through matters related to his gaming company. And of course, he wanted to try out that gold-plated toilet paper—just to get a taste of the lavish lifestyle of the wealthy in the Middle East. It seemed like a pretty good idea.

"Yes, young master," the butler promptly responded to Mavi's request and immediately began arranging the trip.

Three Days Later, Dubai Airport

As the Gulfstream G200 jet landed smoothly on the tarmac, Mavi caught his first glimpse of this city built in the desert.

In the year 2000, Dubai was still under heavy construction and had yet to achieve the level of prosperity it would later be known for. The only iconic landmark at the time was the newly opened Burj Al Arab hotel.

The city beneath Mavi's feet was entirely built upon wealth and imagination. It was the fastest-growing real estate market in the world, and simultaneously, the one most prone to dramatic crashes.

When the 2009 financial crisis hit, many people in Dubai went bankrupt overnight. Countless luxury cars were abandoned across the city, left to be buried under layers of sand and dust.

"Young master, Mr. Akadura's car has arrived at the airport," the butler, Ivan, informed Mavi as he looked out the window.

A sky-blue Lamborghini Murciélago, leading two silver BMWs, was approaching the G200 jet.

As the cabin door opened, Mavi, dressed in casual attire, slowly descended the steps. At the same time, the scissor doors of the Lamborghini lifted open, and a man stepped out. He had dark skin, wore traditional Arabian attire, and sported a small white cap.

"Oh! Mavi, my dear friend! Welcome to Dubai!" The man greeted him enthusiastically, immediately pulling Mavi into a hug. His thick and slightly scruffy beard made Mavi instinctively lean back a little.

"Long time no see, Akadura," Mavi replied, though he had no recollection of who this man was. He had only just heard the butler mention that the Akadura family was involved in a wide range of businesses, primarily trading and gold transactions.

Akadura patted Mavi's shoulder with a broad smile and said, "Come on, get in! My friend, let me take you to experience the world's most luxurious hotel! I've already booked your room."

Having wealth and influence certainly made life easier—there was always someone to handle the details. If it had been an ordinary person, they would have had to arrange everything themselves, let alone even know anyone in Dubai.

After about half an hour of driving, Mavi finally saw the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel, just as he had envisioned it.

With clear blue skies, white clouds, golden sands, and the shimmering sea, the hotel stood tall in the water like a giant sail, enduring the wind and waves.

"Well, Mavi? What do you think of our Arabian Star? Not bad, right?" Akadura said proudly.

"Yeah, it's impressive," Mavi admitted.

He recalled that this hotel had cost $1.5 billion to build. Just the process of reclaiming land from the sea had taken over three years. It was rumored that 15 tons of gold and 40 tons of steel were used in its construction. The Dubai royal family's extravagance was undeniable.

When Akadura parked the car in front of the hotel, he led Mavi into the lobby.

The moment he stepped inside, Mavi felt as though he had entered a palace made entirely of gold. Everywhere he looked, there was a dazzling golden glow.

From the pillars to the reception desk, to the ceiling—almost every surface was coated in real gold. The sheer extravagance of it all was overwhelming. However, the design wasn't just about opulence; it seamlessly blended Arabic aesthetics, making the hotel appear both grand and sophisticated.

As they rode the elevator, Akadura turned to Mavi and said with a grin, "My friend, the gold bars I promised you over the phone are already waiting in your room."

Gold bars?

Due to his fragmented memories, Mavi had no recollection of any conversation about gold bars.

But when he entered the royal suite on the 26th floor, he was greeted by a shocking sight—six or seven open black suitcases lay scattered across the bedroom floor. Inside each suitcase, shimmering gold bars were neatly stacked.

Every single bar was polished to a bright shine, each weighing exactly one kilogram. There were so many that, if spread out, they could easily form a bed big enough for Mavi to sleep on.

Gold was a highly valuable and stable investment. Based on his knowledge from his past life, gold prices had reached an all-time high of $1,860 per ounce in July 2011. But in the year 2000, the price was only around $280 per ounce.

Looking at the vast pile of gold bars, Mavi felt a deep visual impact—it was an awe-inspiring sight.

At that moment, Akadura clapped him on the shoulder again and said cheerfully, "My friend, enjoy your time in Dubai!"

These gold bars were actually the remaining balance from a previous business deal between them. Akadura had arranged for the delivery at the Burj Al Arab, waiting for Mavi to inspect them.

On the floor lay precisely 100 gold bars—100 kilograms in total, worth over a million dollars.

As Mavi took in the sight of the gold, a thought suddenly crossed his mind. He turned around and called out to Akadura, who was about to leave.

"Wait a moment!"

"Hm? What is it, my friend? Is there an issue with the quantity?" Akadura asked, looking puzzled.

The butler gave Mavi a slight nod, indicating that the quantity was correct. But just then, Mavi suddenly remembered that he still had $310 million sitting in his bank account with nowhere to spend it.

So, with a calm expression, he said to Akadura, "The amount is correct—but I'd like to buy more."

Hearing that Mavi was interested in purchasing more gold, Akadura's eyes lit up. He grinned and asked, "Oh? My friend, how much more are we talking about?"

Mavi raised his right hand and slowly extended a single finger.

"Another 1,000 bars."

The moment he spoke, Akadura's eyebrows shot up in surprise.

At first, when Mavi raised a single finger, Akadura assumed he meant 100 more bars—about $1.05 million worth.

But he never expected that Mavi was actually asking for 10,000 bars—a transaction worth a staggering $10.5 million!

This was nearly half a year's worth of gold trading volume for his entire family!

"Alright! Yes! I'll make the call right away!" Akadura was thrilled. A $10 million transaction was no small deal.

To Mavi, however, this was just a way to casually spend some of the extra money sitting in his bank account. Leaving it there to accumulate interest wasn't worth it—so why not buy some gold instead? It was a solid investment.

After making the call, Akadura excitedly rubbed his hands together and said, "Mr. Mavi, your order is being prepared as we speak! The transaction should be completed by this afternoon!"

"Good," Mavi nodded calmly.
