Chapter 25 - Murder (1)

Arvin ignored the adventurer's words and continued on his business at the guild. And then, only 19 people came forward to the reception desk. They were mostly veteran adventurers who looked disciplined.

"Turns out there's 1 extra person, huh?" muttered Arvin looking at the line. "No problem, I will hire all of your services! 19 people!"

Selvi nodded. "Alright, let's negotiate the cost. The standard for a mission to Vanzhas is..."

"No need to negotiate anymore!" cut Arvin, surprising Selvi and the 19 adventurers.

"I don't have time for petty bargaining. I will pay all these adventurers 60 Golds each! And for the guild service fee, I give 40 Golds!"

Silence...

The noisy guild lobby suddenly went silent as if time stopped. 60 Golds? That was payment for a Rank A mission, not Rank C! That was equivalent to living costs for 5 to 10 years for commoners who usually only held Silver or Copper.

Arvin, ignoring their reactions, raised his hand.

Clink!

A dimensional rift opened. He took out money bags containing a total of 1,180 Golds and placed them on the reception desk. The jingling sound of Gold sounded very melodious yet deadly.

Seeing the pile of money so real, the guild atmosphere immediately turned heated. Commotion occurred. Greed began to possess those who had refused earlier.

"Kid!" shouted someone from the back. "Leave it to me! Let me accept that mission! I'm Rank B!"

"Move aside, you lot! I'm stronger than them! Let me accept it replacing those old people!"

Suddenly, the crowd parted.

A large and muscular man, with a greatsword on his back, came approaching the reception desk with his four colleagues. Their aura was heavy and full of intimidation. It was the 'Iron Fist' Party, one of the Rank A parties famous for being cruel in the capital.

"Hey, Kid!" said the big man, the leader of Iron Fist, looking Arvin up and down with a condescending gaze. "Cancel the contract with these trash. Just hand over the mission to the five of us! We will definitely do it better."

Arvin looked at the man flatly. "Huh? Did I hear wrong? Weren't you the one shouting loudest earlier rejecting the mission to Vanzhas because you were afraid of Vedegra law?"

The man's face turned red from embarrassment and anger. His gaze sharpened as if he wanted to pounce on Arvin.

"I don't care which rich kid you really are! But if I have said this, no one can oppose it in this guild! Your money is more fitting for us!"

The man reached out his large hand, intending to grab Arvin's shirt collar. But, Arvin didn't move back an inch. He stared back at the man with a bone-chilling gaze.

"I also don't care who you are!" hissed Arvin. "I don't have much time to entertain you. If you still insist on wasting my time with this cheap drama... I will kill the five of you here, right now!"

The man and his four colleagues fell silent for a moment, then laughed out loud. A echoing laugh, full of insult.

"You will kill us? BWAHAHAHA!" The man held his stomach. "Hear that? This dandy kid wants to kill us! Don't joke, Kid! Go home and drink your mother's milk!"

"I've warned you!" stated Arvin firmly. His eyes flashed, mana in his body began to surge.

"Tch! Your stare makes me sick! You will receive a lesson from me for being arrogant!"

The man lost patience. He drew a large sword from his back and swung it towards Arvin's face with intent to injure.

Clang!

A loud clash of metal was heard.

Arvin didn't move from his position. In his right hand, a sword of pure light had formed in the blink of an eye, blocking the attack easily.

"You attacked me first." said Arvin quietly, but his voice was clearly heard in everyone's ears. "Self-defense law applies. You must pay for it with your lives!"

Arvin's eyes glowed bright blue.

Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash!

Arvin's movements were invisible to the naked eye. Only a beam of light dashed zig-zag past the five people.

The next second, Arvin was already standing behind them, turning his back on the five Iron Fist members while dispelling his light sword.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

The five muscular bodies collapsed to the floor almost simultaneously. Their heads rolled separated from their bodies. Fresh blood spurted, flooding the dirty wooden floor of the guild.

Silence...

A silence much more gripping than before. The smell of blood began to spread. In front of everyone, Arvin had just killed the strongest Rank A adventurer party in that guild in less than one second. Without breaking a sweat. Without hesitation.

Arvin turned slowly. His face was flat, as if he had just stepped on a cockroach, not killed five humans.

"You idiots!" Arvin stared at all the corpses lying on the guild lobby floor with a look of disdain. "Even though I already warned the five of you! Fools!"

Arvin shifted his gaze to everyone in the lobby. His gaze was sharp and full of threats. "Are there any of you who want to be like those five stupid adventurers? If anyone still protests, I invite you to come forward and face me!"

Selvi, the 19 hired adventurers, and all people in the lobby could only stand frozen. Their faces were deathly pale. No one dared to speak, let alone look into Arvin's eyes.

"When I made the request, you refused and mocked me. But after seeing the huge reward, you instead became greedy and wanted to seize someone else's rights?" Arvin was very furious at all the adventurers. "You are truly disgusting! Trash!"

Arvin walked back to the reception desk, ignoring the corpses around him.

"Selvi!" called Arvin.

The receptionist girl jolted in shock, her shoulders trembling violently. "Y-Yes... Y-Yes, Sir?!"

"Arrange the departure schedule for these 19 people. And clean up these corpses, the smell is disturbing my transaction!" ordered Arvin coldly.

However, Arvin's mood was already very bad because his precious time had been wasted just to entertain the five thug adventurers earlier.

"Because of those five fools, my mood became bad. Even my time has been wasted a lot here!" grumbled Arvin.

He saw Selvi still gaping in disbelief, her hands trembling holding the quill pen.

"Selvi!" snapped Arvin. "Don't just stand there looking stupid just because you have a pretty face! Take care of everything quickly or I will destroy this guild building to the ground!"

Selvi jolted, her soul as if pulled back into her body. "Y-Yes! I will handle it immediately, Young Master!"

However, behind her fear, Selvi's heart beat fast for another reason.

He... he called me pretty? Selvi's cheeks flushed red in the midst of the bloody situation. This is the first time a high noble has praised my looks directly, even while scolding me. He really is a strange noble. Cruel, but... very handsome and charismatic.

Does he already have a lover? Selvi stole a glance at Arvin who was grumbling. Ah, no! No! I shouldn't be greedy! How could a commoner and receptionist like me become the lover of a monster as strong as him? But... he is so cool.
