Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Leading Kaido Away: The Old Lion's Cooperation

"Induced Kaido to defeat Shiki, completely changing the historical timeline. Gained 100,000 virtual evaluation points."

Beneath the furious collision of thunderclouds and storm in the sky, and slowly appearing in Shin's mind, was the reward for this action.

100,000 virtual evaluation points, neither too much nor too little.

In terms of market value, the fate of the Sky Pirate Fleet Governor, whose status should have been comparable to a Yonko, shouldn't be worth only a mere 100,000 virtual points.

However, the extent of Shin's alteration to his fate so far has, frankly, not been significant.

After all, even without his intervention, Shiki, under the dual debuffs of illness and brain damage, would have been defeated by a Gear Third Luffy and eventually captured by the Marines.

In terms of outcome, there wasn't a huge change.

He merely allowed this old lion to rediscover his former self.

This was a big change.

If Shiki could survive, Shin didn't know if he could live now, but...

it was time for him to make an appearance.

Shin controlled the long-armed Prayer Hand, manipulating Barbatos to slowly ascend.

In his hand, appearing out of thin air, was a slender, pitch-black sniper rifle.

It was a weapon he had just exchanged for 10,000 virtual evaluation points.

GN Sniper Rifle (GN Sniperifle)

A long-range sniper weapon from the Gundam 00 world, belonging to the Gundam Dynames.

Its design is similar to the "Beretta M80" series of sniper rifles.

It uses GN particles from a connected GN Drive as charged ammunition, theoretically an infinite ammo weapon.

But unfortunately, Shin didn't have a GN Drive.

This was because Gundam 00 series mobile suits equipped with GN Drives were incredibly expensive, costing more than half the price of Iron-Blooded Orphans series Gundam mobile suits.

This GN Sniper Rifle was a versatile weapon, with enough stored GN particles for three shots, but only three.

After that, without GN particle replenishment, it was just a large, fancy stick.

It could be said that before exchanging for an OO series Gundam, this item's cost-effectiveness was very low.

However,...that didn't matter.

Even after it was used up, it could still be used for research.

Shin used the long-armed Prayer Hand to awkwardly calibrate the sniper scope.

Luckily, Kaido was quite close to him, so not much aiming was needed.

He aligned the scope with Kaido's forehead, placed his finger on the trigger, and Shin delightfully licked his lips.

"Today's main course is...charcoal-grilled mud eel!"

In the sky, the confrontation between Kaido and Shiki had reached its conclusion.

The ferocious storm, after tearing against Kaido's thunderclouds for several minutes, had completely dissipated.

Shiki, charred and covered in blood, fell like a plummeting meteor towards the cold snow below.

As the storm cleared, Kaido was also covered in wounds.

Having defeated a powerful foe, Kaido remained uncharacteristically silent.

Even with his poor relationship with Shiki, personally seeing off an old acquaintance left him with a sense of melancholy.

But despite the melancholy, Kaido still didn't intend to hold back on the finishing blow.

Just as Kaido was about to deliver the final strike to the falling Shiki, a strong sense of palpitation surged through his heart!

His constantly active Observation Haki brought an unprecedented sense of dread to Kaido.

He dodged his body at the fastest possible speed without hesitation.

Whoosh!

A pale green beam shot like a ghost from the jungle below towards Kaido's forehead.

Kaido, maneuvering his body, dodged the most fatal attack, but the particle beam still mercilessly pierced his left shoulder.

A deep, bone-deep, large, charred hole spread across his scaled body.

The surrounding nerves, which had instantly necrotic and disintegrated, made Kaido unable to even feel pain.

But without a doubt, this was a more severe injury than Oden's sword strike.

Two more beams simultaneously locked onto Kaido's heart and head, but Kaido, already prepared, dodged into the thunderclouds in the sky.

One beam dissipated and deflected amidst the violent lightning, while the other seemed to hit Kaido, causing his furious roar to echo through the clouds.

"Dealt irreparable damage to Yonko 'Kaido of the Beasts,' gained 50,000 virtual evaluation points!"

Compared to the 100,000 points earned from assassinating Big Mom, this time it was only 50,000 points.

Was it because Kaido's unreasonable self-healing ability was also considered in the evaluation criteria?

Barbatos dropped the GN sniper rifle and slowly ascended into the high sky.

Kaido, who peeked out from the clouds, had completely charred wounds on his shoulder and abdomen.

"Brat!!!!!"

Kaido roared furiously.

This guy he'd forgotten about halfway through the fight had almost assassinated him to death just now?

Barbatos beckoned to Kaido, a clear gesture of provocation.

Unable to suppress such humiliation, Kaido roared, transforming into a blue dragon, and vanished into the distant clouds with Barbatos.

"Done."

Shin opened his eyes within the mental subjection machine.

Prayer Hand Unit 1 in Barbatos would keep Kaido circling, so he wouldn't have to worry about him for at least half an hour.

Now, there was the problem of the other side.

The surrounding islands were disintegrating and breaking apart, with violent tremors slowly spreading from the outer edges of the island.

This wasn't a good sign.

It meant that Shiki's Fuwa Fuwa no Mi only became ineffective when he was completely unconscious or dead.

Although these few islands had drifted some distance away, their overall coordinates were still near Mary Geoise.

If they all fell, Shin estimated he'd get incredibly rich.

And then... then it's hard to say.

He didn't just come here to earn evaluation points; it was also for a promotion exam.

The degree of change in the One-Piece world was part of the assessment, and simply destroying Mary Geoise wouldn't be enough.

"Ah, walking there might take a long time..."

Shin looked in the direction where Shiki fell, then glanced at his 'self' quietly sitting in the mental subjection machine and shook his head.

"No choice... I'll buy one."

Two hundred thousand virtual evaluation points instantly dwindled like flowing water, leaving only fifty thousand points.

...

"I failed..."

Shiki, half of his charred body submerged in the cold seawater, looked at the azure sky and thought so.

This place was already enough for the old lion's funeral.

Even if it wasn't universally witnessed, it was still a magnificent end.

Though he didn't know why that usually ruthless Kaido brat hadn't come to deliver the final blow, even if he hadn't, he wouldn't live much longer.

He closed his eyes, preparing to calmly welcome death.

But just then, a huge dark shadow appeared above him, blocking the sunlight.

Shiki frowned, opened his eyes, and saw a colossal iron giant hovering in the sky.

From within the iron giant, a man wearing a strange I-type helmet, a black trench coat, and half-body armor jumped out, standing before Shiki.

The pink light emanating from his helmet quietly illuminated Shiki.

"You... you're the one who brought that Kaido brat here, aren't you?"

Shiki looked at the silent Shin, exhaled, his voice already extremely weak.

"Yes, Mr. Shiki." Shin admitted without hesitation.

"What business do you have here now? Do you intend to kill me?" Shiki said blandly.

"No, I intend to cooperate with you," Shin squatted down, smiling.

He helped Shiki out of the seawater.

Without the interference of the seawater, the island's descent stopped, and Shiki slowly regained his strength.

"Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?" Shiki asked with interest.

"I am. After all, this is a valuable subject, a pirate worth 230 million, and a Chainsaw Man who ate the 'Noko Noko no Mi' (Saw-Saw Fruit). It would indeed be a pity if he died."

Shin casually raised his right hand, and his arm instantly transformed into a roaring chainsaw, surrounded by faint Armament Haki.

This guy, Denji, was a pirate Supernova from an era even before Cavendish the White Horse.

He was a capable pirate, but only "capable."

Even if the real Denji were here, he wouldn't last two moves against an awakened Shiki, let alone Shin, who wasn't fully familiar with Denji's abilities and body.

Although Shiki was heavily wounded now, he wasn't someone anyone could just step on.

However, if it came down to a fight, Shin was confident he could kill him directly.

"...The one speaking here isn't you yourself?"

Shiki narrowed his eyes.

Although he didn't know the principle, his intuition told him that the person speaking here wasn't the real Shin.

"Yes, I am rather cautious. My real body is currently hiding inside that machine. If an unavoidable battle occurs, I will have to leave here," Shin smiled.

After putting away the mental subjection machine, the Prayer Hand unit that was circling with Kaido could only follow its most basic commands.

Shin also didn't have much time to waste here.

"This is also a gamble for me, Mr. Shiki, and I don't have much time. So, I think we should just discuss the cooperation directly."

Shiki struggled to float up using his Devil Fruit ability, crossing his arms and scoffing,

"What can a cowardly rat do? Is he worthy of cooperating with me?"

"Of course," Shin said calmly.

"Because I possess weapons you can't imagine, because I almost killed Charlotte Linlin, because I... can destroy the World Government!"

Shiki scoffed, looking at Shin as if he were an ignorant fool.

"The World Government cannot be destroyed by just one or two weapons."

"Of course not. To destroy an organization that has ruled the world for 800 years, you must completely eliminate them both mentally and materially."

Shin nodded in agreement, sat cross-legged, and chuckled,

"Mr. Shiki, I know what lies beneath Mary Geoise's Pangea Castle, and I know about that terrifying World Noble King on the Empty Throne. They truly aren't something one or two people can defeat. So I need preparation, several months of preparation."

"Starting from Marineford, we will... completely overturn this world!"

"...What do you want to cooperate with me on?" Shiki's gaze flickered.

"It's simple," Shin smiled pleasantly.

"Put on seastone handcuffs and then go to Impel Down."
