The kiss between Nolan and his sexy neighbor was interrupted by a massive explosion that made the entire building tremble.
"What was that?" Clarice asked, her voice still hoarse but now laden with concern.
Nolan didn't respond immediately, looking at it with worry. He quickly checked his phone and, after a few moments, found some news online about the incident.
Apparently, it had been some kind of terrorist attack. However, since magic existed in that world, the scale of a simple attack like that could be colossal.
Before Clarice could say anything, her phone vibrated insistently in her pocket. The woman quickly pulled out her cell phone and saw it was a call from her work.
"I... I need to answer, it's work," she said, her voice still trembling. Nolan simply nodded, his eyes still fixed on the window.
Clarice answered the phone, listening attentively to the quick instructions on the other end of the line. "Understood. I'm on my way," she replied with a long sigh.
Turning to Nolan, she explained in a frustrated tone that she had to go back to her apartment for work.
"I need to go," she said, looking at Nolan with a mix of concern and frustration. "Emergency work. They need everyone available."
"Alright, go on. We'll have other chances," the man replied, giving the girl a light slap on her butt, cheering her up a bit.
Clarice nodded, even breathing a sigh of relief. In a way, she believed that the explosion had helped her regain her rationality. But how long would that rationality last? Definitely not long.
As soon as she left, Nolan turned on the TV. News was already being broadcast live, with reporters describing the chaos spreading through the city.
"A large-scale terrorist attack, amplified by the use of high-level magic," the reporter explained, her voice tense. "Authorities have already declared a state of emergency and announced a curfew that should last at least three days. All citizens are advised to remain indoors and avoid public areas."
Nolan sat on the couch, his eyes fixed on the screen as he absorbed the information. First of all, it probably meant that his weekend plans were canceled, which was frustrating.
Other than that, he wasn't particularly worried about the terrorists attacking, but he did care about the safety of his girls.
He immediately called Eliza. Naturally, the girl was busy with the whole situation, but she still answered. She assured him that her mother and sister were safe, so Nolan didn't need to worry.
She also said she would be joining the group handling the terrorists, but told him not to worry about it. After all, the woman was very powerful and would easily defeat the terrorists.
Nolan considered getting involved, afraid that something might happen to Eliza. But she was so confident that he figured everything would be fine.
Of course, he also called Rachel and breathed a sigh of relief when he found out that she was safe too, although a bit shaken.
He offered to help with anything she needed and even talked to her for a long time over the phone, helping her calm down.
After that, they even talked about their plans for the weekend. Obviously, the plans were canceled, but both Rachel and Nolan still wanted to see each other at some point.
Because of the cancellation, they agreed to just try a bar or something similar next weekend.
Nolan checked online and found a club that looked interesting. He bought the tickets, and everything was decided.
After all that, he took a deep breath and calmed himself. That's when Ana entered the room and, seeing how worried he looked, smiled softly.
Before he could even start explaining what was going on, the blonde smiled and said she already knew everything.
"Worried about someone?" she asked. "I can guarantee the safety of anyone you want, just give me their names."
Nolan was surprised; he hadn't realized how powerful or influential her family was. Still, he trusted her, and after a few calls, the blonde had assigned agents to protect everyone Nolan cared about.
Then she clapped her hands lightly and said,
"Well, I think the city's going to be a mess for a while. So, do you want to get out of here and have some fun somewhere else?"
"Get out of here? How? All the roads are blocked."
"Simple, we can use teleportation," the woman explained confidently. And once again, Nolan was reminded that this world was very different from his own.
"Can you use this power?"
"No, my gift is different," the blonde said, but she couldn't explain what her power was. "But I can call my driver," she added.
The girl's family was so wealthy and influential that they had many subordinates under their command. Among them was a family famous for having several descendants with the ability to teleport.
Nolan ended up agreeing, after all, he saw no harm in it and had no plans for the next three days. Hearing this, Ana smiled excitedly and made a few calls to arrange everything. She was planning a few surprises for her beloved to discover when they arrived at their destination.
So Ana made one last call, summoning two people. More specifically, she asked her 'driver' to pick up a certain other woman.
And shortly after her call, the girl's ring glowed; after all, it had been marked by her 'driver'.
Finally, two girls appeared in the room, but Nolan quickly noticed one of them; she was the little one he had punished a few days ago at the mall.
