"Yeah, and you're even counting on me breaking something when I fall—because my reserves, already low after turning, will be spent on regeneration, so hunger itself will drive me toward a living snack. And you know… that's not the worst option. It's much easier to accept that the first time was due to instincts, not cold calculation. Why are you looking at me like that? I am a scientist, after all, and I consider such possibilities. And keeping a cool head is a trait specific to this part of my profession, not to mercenaries." With that, she jumped out the window herself.
"Ouch!" she exclaimed as she landed, and I followed, touching down calmly and leaving deep footprints in the asphalt. Yamata, however, broke both legs, and after that "ouch"—more a reflex, since she didn't feel pain—the girl crawled toward Miss Fowler with a light, animalistic hiss. Bon appétit, and gather some information at the same time, newborn monster. Heh. By the way, I wonder if I've created anyone else besides the already-dead blonde and Yamata? And then we'll have to wait and see about this "Party Girl," in case she turns away from Four Eyes.
But, as practice showed, she didn't turn—or rather, she turned into a regular "redhead." That suited me just fine: some of the worries about the relatives who had sudden shown up were gone, and at the same time I twisted the heads off the rest of the squad members. They clearly weren't going to turn, but why take the risk? That came later, though—and now…
"Now let's conduct the tests!" Four Eyes said happily, walking toward me with the unsteady gait of a drunk. I didn't have time to ask what kind of tests she meant, because she suddenly sped up, knocked me to the ground, and did exactly what I'd done upstairs—interrupting her hysteria.
"You know, there really are sensations," she said, pulling away.
"I'm happy for you. Maybe you'll get off me now?" I couldn't resist asking.
"Denied! I want to experience a more intense degree of pleasure while I still have fresh blood inside me." She licked her lips, very seductively, and her slight paleness didn't spoil the effect at all. I could state that after receiving the blood of a living person, I wasn't impotent at all—but in other cases, I feared it would be the opposite.
"Hey, we can't do that in the middle of a city full of dead people!" I tried to reach Four Eyes, who was clearly drifting somewhere far away after her first meal and the new sensations.
"Yes, we should climb onto the roof and continue there. And don't look at me like that—I can tell you're not averse to it yourself! And no, if I say that I've fallen in love with you, all 'kind and fluffy,' it would be a lie. I suspect it's the same effect as with the previous turned one. After all, that blonde was her—you just didn't realize it yourself." She snorted.
"You know, your observation and quick wit are really getting on my nerves. Yes, she was my first convert, and I'm glad you didn't turn out the same way," I said, getting up with the girl still hanging on me. After all, I was stronger, and she'd only managed to knock me down because of the suddenness of her move—something I definitely hadn't expected.
"And I'm also glad that now we're definitely on the same side," I added with a smile.
"It's quite possible that this is only until we accept the normal G-virus," Yamata said, stunning me.
"And if not?" I tilted my head slightly, as if thinking, but in reality I was moving my mouth out of reach of a "cat that had started its March."
"If not, then I don't mind staying with you and being a pack predator. And I'm not just saying that because of my newfound instincts." The girl smiled.
"Okay, enough pestering. I give up. Let's go upstairs and take a break from everything that's going on, and then you can tell me what you found out from the victim's blood," I said.
"No problem—but you promised, Cain!" The girl looked at me warningly. Well, my worldview was crumbling before my eyes. Two undead creatures on the verge of intercourse… yeah, we're doomed.

However, contrary to expectations, after just half an hour we began examining the test results—well, Four Eyes did. I understood some of it, but other parts required me to dwell on them for a long time, skipping the rest of the information, which was disadvantageous—from our blood and from what Nemesis had left behind.
And not because it was so interesting (it was, especially for my companion), but because after half an hour our sensitivity began to fade. I don't think I need to explain further… it was definitely a mockery by my creators—drinking blood just to experience a truncated version of sensations that are always available to humans. So now we were studying the results in Four Eyes's frankly dying laboratory.
"Yeah… what can I say? For you, the question of obtaining the G-virus has become less urgent. You've bought some time by stabilizing your condition with this transition. But for me, this question is even more urgent than it was for you before. And judging by the data we've obtained, I'm far from your previous performance levels, and the processes are proceeding much more slowly. Apparently, there's a lower concentration of the virus in my blood. But it's unclear whether this is because you fed on infected people, or because I simply can't take a large dose into my body," Yamata said thoughtfully.
