Teotihuacán, Pyramid of the Sun — Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. (local time)
The heat was unbearable. Rebeca climbed the steps with her heart racing. Beside her,
Lucas moved effortlessly, untouched by the burning sun.
Elías panted behind them.
"Why here?" Rebeca asked.
Lucas pointed at the summit.
"Because the third sacrifice happened in New York. The fourth… will happen here."
"Who?" Elías asked.
Lucas didn't reply.
At the top of the pyramid lay a ritual circle drawn with oil and ash. In the center, a black
drone hovered with a package dangling from a cord.
Rebeca drew her Beretta."I don't like this."
The drone lowered and dropped the package at Lucas's feet. The boy didn't move.
Rebeca opened it cautiously.
Inside was a mask: the mask of the Fourth Seal. Dark wood, the symbol of the pale
horse.
And a note:
"One of you must wear it."
Elías stepped back.
"No… no, it can't be…"
The ritual circle ignited. Green flames.
Lucas whispered:
"The Fourth Seal is already here."
A man appeared on the opposite edge of the pyramid. The hooded one who saved them
in Rome.
But now his eyes were no longer gray.
They were completely white.
"Rebeca," the man said. "Choose who dies… and the fourth seal will be completed."
Rebeca raised her weapon.
"No one is dying today."
The man smiled.
"Then the seal will choose you."
The flames rose higher and the ground trembled.
