Chapter 67: Turmoil
A female nurse with bangs, dressed in medical scrubs, slowly stepped out of the ambulance.
Wearing a surgical mask, she put her hands in the pockets of her scrubs, revealing a section of her fair, delicate wrist. She looked at everything with satisfaction, letting out an arrogant laugh.
"Save me, nurse, please save me!"
"Save me, save me first!"
Four or five injured bystanders on the ground saw the nurse. Although they instinctively felt something was wrong with her, they could only plead; this was the only thing the weak could do.
Hearing this, the nurse stopped her arrogant laughter and walked to a lightly injured blond-haired young man, crouching down beside him.
"Poor thing, you seem injured, sir. I feel so sorry for you, but look how many people are here!"
"One, two... five!"
The nurse, with a beauty mark under her eye, pointed to each of the people lying on the ground with her delicate white fingers.
"Although I like you very much, I can't ignore these wounded!"
The blond-haired youth was somewhat bewildered upon hearing this. He only wanted the beautiful nurse in front of him to save him first.
She's so beautiful, she must be very kind, a thought inexplicably crossed his mind.
"Sigh! It's really difficult. If they were all dead, I wouldn't be in this predicament!"
The nurse's soft sigh seemed to awaken something in the blond-haired youth.
'Yes, it's all these wounded people's fault for putting this beautiful woman in such a difficult position. They all deserve to die; if they died, she wouldn't feel so troubled.'
Thinking this, the blond-haired youth struggled to his feet, took the scalpel the nurse handed him, and lunged at the several wounded who were unable to move on the ground.
After a scream, the blond-haired youth didn't stop, but instead stabbed at Tomie.
Marcus seized the opportunity to get out of the car, threw a dart that struck the blond-haired youth in the head, walked to the already lifeless Tomie, and used his absorption ability.
He glanced at the remaining wreckage, returned to the police car, and headed towards the research facility. It was less crowded there, the defenses were more complete, and most importantly, it contained what he needed.
An invisible pressure hung in the air as he drove, causing pedestrians to quicken their pace involuntarily. Screams occasionally rang out from the crowd.
The sirens pierced the air, and Marcus, seeing this, simply turned on his own siren, driving towards the outskirts as the panicked crowd parted to make way.
As he crossed a bridge, Marcus noticed a dozen or so identical Tomie girls standing scattered on it.
These twin-like Tomie girls, seeing Marcus's car, all beamed with sweet smiles and reached out to flag him down.
"Officer, please give me a ride!"
As if they had rehearsed it, they uttered this phrase in unison, like a chorus.
There was a grotesque beauty to it.
If these Tomie girls were replaced with mannequins, they might terrify passersby, but they were a group of strangely beautiful girls with identical appearances.
Marcus ignored them and sped past. One of the Tomies standing in the middle of the road couldn't dodge in time and was sent flying.
It wasn't that Marcus didn't care about the abilities of these dozen or so Tomies and let them go; nor was it that he couldn't resist their charm.
Rather, it was because a more terrifying scene was unfolding on both banks beneath the bridge.
Countless Tomies were emerging from the riverbed onto the shore, a dense, uncountable mass, like a swarm at low tide.
As Tomie landed, countless strange fish with sharp, four-limbed spines swarmed ashore, attacking and dismembering her like predators.
It was a scene of carnage, a dark, chaotic mass.
The mud on both sides of the riverbank was completely stained dark red, and the river water, too, flowed red, carrying countless remains of Tomie and the strange fish!
From the remains on the bank, more small Tomies were expanding and growing like mushrooms; every dismembered body would regenerate into a multiplied Tomie.
This world had gone completely insane!
Although Marcus was unaffected by these few Tomies, he couldn't be sure he wouldn't be swayed if surrounded by countless Tomies.
So, the only thing he could do was floor the accelerator.
With a crashing sound reminiscent of playing "Grand Theft Auto" in his past life, the car finally crossed the bridge and sped towards the research facility.
It must be said, the police car's collision protection was indeed excellent.
Marcus replanned his route, choosing to detour around any sections with rivers or bridges.
Driving along the road through the Pine Forest, he checked the distance and estimated it would take another hour and a half to reach his destination.
Less than ten minutes into the new route,
Marcus suddenly heard a loud commotion behind the vehicle, like something massive running, and a voice calling to him.
Looking in his rearview mirror, he saw something chasing the police car.
The creature was over ten feet tall, with a wrinkled face longer than a horse's, blonde bangs fluttering in the wind, and protruding, bloodshot eyes with a deathly, sinister expression.
Most striking was the large, marble-sized beauty mark under her left eye—it was utterly repulsive.
This strange woman, dressed in a formal dress, was frantically chasing the car, shouting,
"Officer, wait for me! I love you so much!"
Her mouth gaped open in a wide grin, revealing a mouthful of fangs, like a horror movie monster's signature expression.
Marcus instinctively slammed on the accelerator, purely out of disgust.
He felt the creature's appearance was somewhat familiar; if he remembered correctly, it should be a monster from another horror franchise, now transformed into Tomie.
However, this transformation was clearly incomplete, making her even more grotesque. Was it because she was already a monster to begin with?
Marcus thought for a moment; such a large Tomie must have absorbed considerable energy, and this monster wasn't particularly powerful.
The steering wheel was on the left. He gripped it with his left hand, his right hand reaching into his jacket, and a rocket launcher appeared.
He extended his right hand out the window, turned his head, and fired at the monster-Tomie hybrid.
With a roar, the pursuing footsteps disappeared, and Marcus slowly brought the car to a stop.
As the smoke cleared, he saw the creature split in two.
Even so, it continued to crawl slowly, seemingly trying to piece itself back together.
Marcus pulled out another rocket, loaded it, and fired again.
With a deafening roar and a wave of heat, the creature completely shattered and fell to the ground.
He stepped forward and used his absorption ability. A surge of energy, both pungent and potent, flooded his body. He felt that one monster-Tomie was equivalent to five ordinary Tomies.
The Tomie outbreak had completely begun, and it was about to end.
