Chapter 59 - Chapter 59: Preparations

Chapter 59: Preparations

The old police chief waved his hand, signaling Anderson to go inside.

He had just lost face and stormed out angrily, and was too embarrassed to go back in, yet he was curious about what they wanted the chicken for.

So he turned and sat on the stool by the door, pretending to be tired and resting, occasionally peeking inside.

Marcus took the rooster out of the cage, pinched its wings, and lifted it up with one hand. Then he opened the fish basket lid a crack and brought the rooster to the gap.

The catfish's right forelimb pierced through the rooster's claw again.

Marcus closed the fish basket lid and put the rooster back in the cage. A group of people squatted beside him, quietly observing.

"Look, it's changed!"

"Yes, yes, it's turned green, the chicken's head is really green!"

About a minute later, the rooster's comb began to turn green.

Three minutes later, the sickly green gradually spread from the comb to its entire body, even the chicken's claws began to turn green, as if it were covered in mold.

"Oh my god, it's completely green, totally green, even its claws are green!"

the onlookers exclaimed in surprise, pointing at the rooster in the cage.

Marcus's guess was right; this kind of fish did indeed have the ability to spread infection.

A pool of green liquid dripped from the rooster's beak, emitting an extremely foul stench, like a sewer.

The old police chief sitting at the door was also very surprised by this scene.

He had seen some creatures mutated due to water pollution, and had even seen a three-eyed frog once.

But he never expected that this one would have the ability to spread infection like a disease.

The old man thought that although he was about to retire, he should still do what he could to document this, so he turned around and went back to his office to write a report.

"I'll take two of these fish to the research facility I'm working with for testing. You can handle the rest; this thing's infectious capability is very dangerous!"

Marcus asked Miller to find another fish basket, put two carp in it with tongs, and then, carrying the fish basket and with Emma, whose changes were becoming increasingly obvious, he drove a police car west.

His target was the Riverside Genetic Research Institute, a private military contractor specializing in comprehensive life science research.

"Detective Moretti, do you think if I become more beautiful, Kevin won't change his mind?"

"I feel like I'm about to be reborn, becoming a beauty! I'm going to dress up beautifully to see Kevin!"

While driving, Emma, sitting in the back seat, suddenly spoke up nervously.

"Yeah, you're right. I believe Kevin will be very happy to see you!"

Marcus said calmly. He didn't tell Emma that Kevin was dead, and if she wanted to see him, she could probably only do so in the afterlife.

At this moment, Emma Mitchell was like a terminal patient; Tomie's cells and even Tomie's consciousness were infecting her step by step, and she would be devoured and assimilated by Tomie within two days.

"This isn't the way back to my apartment!"

"I need to take these things to the research facility first."

"That's fine too. I'm not planning to go back right away anyway. I'll wait until I'm beautiful before I go back and surprise Kevin."

As Emma spoke, she didn't even realize that a smug smile had crept onto her lips.

The police car arrived at the research facility, located in a remote area at the foot of the mountain, surrounded by armed guards.

Marcus parked the car on the side of the road, locked the doors, and had Emma stay in the back seat where prisoners were held. He carried the strange fish to the entrance and met the facility's director, Dr. Richardson.

"Is this the strange fish you were talking about?"

"That's really strange! It even has strong infectivity?"

Director Richardson took out his reading glasses, put them on his nose, and examined the fish closely, making impressed sounds.

"This fish is incredibly aggressive. This kind of thing might meet the requirements of our clients."

Richardson called to his two assistants beside him and was about to take the strange fish inside when Marcus was stopped.

"Excuse me, Detective Moretti, this is a research area. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed in. We will issue you a report once the research results are available."

The assistant on the left reached out to stop Marcus.

"This is different from what we discussed on the phone!"

Marcus had discussed it with them on the phone, agreeing to participate in the experiment and provide materials.

"This meets the requirements of the investors, Detective Moretti. You should know who the facility's investors are, right?"

Richardson's tone was slightly threatening. He believed that Marcus, as a detective and someone within the system, should understand the politics involved.

"Oh, but I was just saying, there's a baby shark with legs in the trunk. It's a bit big, you should come with me to move it!"

Richardson's eyes lit up at the mention of this. A more aggressive shark? That's exactly what we need! This Detective Moretti is bringing exactly what we've been looking for.

"Come on, come on, let's go see it. Why didn't you say so sooner? Honestly!"

Richardson handed the strange fish to one of his assistants, gave him a brief instruction, and then walked out the door with another assistant. They followed him for a hundred feet to the police car.

Emma was dozing off in the car, leaning against the back of her seat. Marcus led the two of them to open the trunk door. The high-raised hood obscured the view of the front of the car.

Richardson's eyes narrowed as he saw the situation in the trunk, and he was about to speak when a cold light flashed in the air, two streams of blood surged, and then two bodies disappeared.

Marcus, dressed in the research facility uniform, unlocked the car door. Emma was startled awake by the sound of the car door opening and looked at the old man in front of her with some curiosity.

"Detective Moretti said you were still outside and sent me to pick you up."

"Oh, oh dear, my beauty sleep is ruined! I hope it doesn't affect my skin!"

Emma complained as she got out of the car. She even overlooked many details and didn't feel anything was wrong; Tomie was deeply influencing her.

Inside the research facility, Marcus handed the fish over to the lab and gave instructions on relevant precautions, including the strange fish's infection and aggressiveness.

Then he took Emma to the innermost isolation room, a place specifically used to hold dangerous experimental subjects.

It was separated by two layers of space with two large doors. After locking Emma inside, Marcus arranged for three teams of guards to take turns guarding the outer door.

Only he and these three teams of guards had the authority to open the outer door.

The second door was guarded by 32 administrative staff.

Guards were strictly prohibited from entering the second door. Each day, one administrative staff member would open the second door and remotely deliver food to Emma using a remote control device.

Each person was only allowed to enter once, must wear earplugs and keep their head down, and the entry time could not exceed 5 minutes, until all 32 administrative staff had taken their turn.

This was done to eliminate the possibility of the research facility's personnel being infected by Tomie, since Tomie is quite difficult for ordinary people to guard against.

Then Marcus went to another room to oversee the modifications, adding various mechanisms.
