Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 Telling the Martian Manhunter the Secret of Their Race

Back on New Krypton, Fiora respectfully handed Zod the green lantern ring that had belonged to Abin Sur.

"General, this is the Lantern of the fellow who offended you back then."

Taking the dim Lantern from Fiora's hand, the crack on its body had not been self-repaired by Green Lantern energy.

Zod looked at it and couldn't help but think, "I wonder if the greatest Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, will still be born without Abin Sur's Lantern."

"Perhaps a museum could be established on Krypton, specifically for displaying these trophies."

With the rise of Krypton, he was also very aware that there would be no shortage of enemies to encounter in the future. In other words, the museum's collection would also be very rich.

While Zod's thoughts were wandering, Leto was one step ahead and said, "General, could you entrust this Lantern to me for research?"

As a scientist, no one would be uninterested in the Lantern, a crystallization of technology from the universe's most ancient civilization.

Zod casually tossed the Lantern to her, saying, "It's just a mere Lantern; take it if you want to research it!"

However, he kept a discouraging thought to himself, not wanting to dampen her enthusiasm too much.

The technology of the Lantern itself was not the key; what was truly important was the Emotional Spectrum, because the Lantern was merely a medium for Green Lanterns to draw the energy of the Willpower Green from the Emotional Spectrum.

Although it also contained Oa's incredible technology, if it wasn't charged by a Lantern Battery, it would be as useless as scrap. After all, not everyone was named Hal Jordan, who could charge a green lantern ring with his own will.

Seeing her so delighted, Zod didn't voice those thoughts.

"Mr. Zod, why did the Green Lantern Corps suddenly attack? Did something happen?"

At this moment, Martian Manhunter also spoke up and asked.

After all, the Green Lantern Corps was very famous in the universe and had always appeared as a force for justice, like cosmic police. He didn't understand what conflict there was between them.

Hearing this, Zod didn't hide anything and directly told everyone the Green Lantern Corps' intentions and the conditions proposed by the Guardians.

Martian Manhunter was somewhat silent after hearing this, because these conditions completely stifled any hope for a race to revive and prosper, not to mention that if they didn't agree, they would be completely wiped out.

If it were him, he would never agree. At this moment, he also understood why Zod had been so merciless towards those Lanterns!

The other Kryptonians, upon hearing these words, were all filled with rage, their eyes unconsciously glowing red with anger.

"These damned fellows just want Krypton to completely vanish from the universe. Letting them commit suicide just now was too easy on them!"

"I really wish I could tear those guys to pieces."

"Green Lantern Corps, if we ever encounter them again, I will make them pay an even more painful price."

Many of them were still very young and didn't know that Krypton and the Guardians of the Universe and their Green Lantern Corps had a long-standing grudge.

Listening to these words, Zod raised his hand, signaling them to quiet down.

Then he said, "The Green Lantern Corps are merely tools of those damned Little Blue Men on Oa. Only they are our true enemies."

"Guardians of the Universe? I remember them being mentioned in some ancient Martian documents. It seems we have some connection, but the information is very scarce."

Martian Manhunter also knew that behind the Green Lantern Corps stood the Guardians of the Universe.

It's just that they didn't know much about this race; after all, they were truly too ancient!

"I also found some information."

Leto also found some records about them in Krypton's central database, but there weren't many, and they were all irrelevant.

In fact, in many powerful civilizations in the universe, the Guardians' presence can be found, but their birth predates imagination.

Zod glanced at Martian Manhunter, thinking, you Martians do have some connection with the Guardians.

With this thought, he decided to give them a science lesson, so he spoke in a deep voice:

"Be quiet! I will tell you the origin of these self-proclaimed Guardians of the Universe. Speaking of which, you Martians have a long past with them."

Hearing this, everyone became curious and looked at Zod with eager eyes.

"The Guardians of the Universe, or perhaps you could call them Maltusians, were the earliest intelligent race to appear after the birth of the universe. Billions of years ago, they possessed advanced civilization and mastered extremely high technology."

"They claimed to possess all knowledge in the universe; of course, this was just their shameless boast. However, they possessed almost eternal immortality, which allowed them to survive from billions of years ago until now."

"Later, one of their kin, Krona, caused a terrible disaster through an experiment exploring the universe, which created some special connection between the Anti-Matter Universe and the Matter Universe, so they exiled him."

"After exiling Krona, the Maltusians also split into three factions: one faction became the Guardians of the Universe, now residing on Oa; another became the ancestors of the Zamarons; and the remaining faction became the Controllers."

"After the Little Blue Men settled on Oa, they called themselves the Guardians of the Universe and, according to their will, divided the universe into 3600 sectors, and created the Manhunters to serve as a cosmic peacekeeping force."

"Then, while tracking Krona, the exiled compatriot of the Little Blue Men, these Manhunters had their programming reversed by him, directly transforming into destroyers and massacring all life in Sector 666."

Upon hearing this, everyone felt their scalps tingle.

That was an entire sector, and the number of lives within it was beyond any unit of measurement!

But Zod's words did not stop; he continued:

"To suppress the Manhunters, those Little Blue Men also paid a considerable price. Finally, after stripping all Manhunters of their power, they exiled them to various parts of the universe."

"However, not destroying these robots was their second mistake, because the Manhunters possessed high intelligence. They gathered together to establish a robot kingdom, with the primary goal of interfering with and disrupting any plans and actions of the Little Blue Men."

"After the Manhunters' failure, the Little Blue Men did not abandon their cosmic guardianship plan, but they also realized that such an important task could not be entrusted to robots."

"Thus, the Green Lantern Corps also came into being, becoming the cosmic police that are still active in the universe today."

Martian Manhunter couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Zod, what do you mean by the Guardians having a long past with us Martians?"

Hearing this, Zod first retorted, "Do your historical records contain any accounts of your race's origin?"

"No?"

"All right, then you'd better prepare yourself!"

So Zod told him all about the grievances between their race's predecessors, the "Burning Martians," and the Little Blue Men.

"You mean, our race's fear of fire is all because the Guardians planted a mental suggestion in us that affects generations?"

Martian Manhunter felt his worldview being completely reset at this moment!

"Jonn, if you don't believe it, you can try it. Use your psychic abilities to suggest to yourself to forget the fear of fire, and you'll understand!"

Hearing Zod's words, Martian Manhunter was silent for only a moment, then immediately performed a mental suggestion on himself.

When a flame appeared before him, he immediately reached out and plunged his hand directly into the fire. The imagined pain and burning sensation did not appear; he only felt a slight warmth.

After realizing that all of this was true, Martian Manhunter immediately fell into a state of sorrow bordering on madness. His powerful psychic abilities inexplicably infected everyone's emotions.

Those who knew he carried a heavy burden of sadness could only silently watch him vent all his emotions.
