Chapter 40: The Green Beast Unleashed
*Ding! Experience +800!*
The system notification was a cold chime in Ragnar's mind as the Kiri chunin fell. His hand, still crackling with residual Lightning Release chakra, looked like a weapon forged from storm clouds. To a modern eye, it would resemble the famed Raikiri (Lightning Cutter), though its creator, Hatake Kakashi, did not yet exist in this world.
Ragnar had developed it himself. With his triple affinity, understanding the principles of lightning—its speed and piercing nature—was intuitive. The process was similar to the Rasengan: extreme chakra control, focusing it in the palm while simultaneously altering its nature to Lightning and its form into a concentrated blade. The result was a single-point piercing thrust of horrific power. It demanded speed, a strong physique, and precise chakra control—all qualities he possessed in abundance. Mastery was now only a matter of repetition.
"Konoha Senpū! (Leaf Hurricane)!"
"Konoha Daisenpū! (Great Leaf Whirlwind)!"
From the other side of the clearing, Might Dai's roars echoed. With four Gates open, he was a tempest. Taijutsu specialists held a distinct advantage against conventional ninjas—unless those ninjas wielded esoteric bloodlines or secret arts. Dai's power, now brushing Jonin-level, made short work of the remaining two chunin. Ragnar felt a twinge of professional regret—those were experience points he hadn't claimed.
Dai landed beside him, his body still wreathed in the violent blue steam of the Four Gates, his aura fierce and unyielding. "Ragnar-sama! Are you unharmed?"
"I'm fine. Dai… that's the Eight Inner Gates?"
"Yes," Dai admitted without hesitation, his nature too straightforward for deception.
"How many can you open?"
"Currently, I have mastered six. The seventh… is possible, but the cost is prohibitive," Dai replied honestly.
Ragnar nodded, filing the information away. It matched the timeline. Dai's legendary moment—his sacrifice during the Third War to save his son's team by opening all Eight Gates and annihilating the Seven Ninja Swordsmen—was still years in the future.
"Ragnar-sama! We must retreat now!" Dai urged, his eyes scanning the trees.
"Too late. We're surrounded," Ragnar stated, his voice flat. His Observation Haki painted a clear picture.
As he spoke, shadows flickered through the forest canopy. One by one, dark figures settled on surrounding branches, looking down with cold efficiency. Nine in total. Two Jonin. Seven Chunin.
A soft hiss escaped Dai's lips. This was no simple smuggling operation. This was a coordinated infiltration by a significant Kirigakure strike force. What was their objective?
"Ragnar-sama, I will hold them. Find an opening and escape!" Dai declared instantly, his body tensing.
"Can you handle that many, Dai?"
"HAH! Can youth ever say 'no'? Now is the time for it to bloom!" Dai's confidence was absolute, his trademark grin flashing, teeth gleaming.
"But instead of running… why not fight them to the death?" Ragnar countered.
Before Dai could argue, Ragnar vanished with a Shave, appearing directly in front of the most isolated chunin. These were not just enemies; they were walking bundles of experience. He had killed the elite chunin Uchiha Shirou a month ago. Now, with all his abilities elevated, these standard chunin were prey.
"Kill the child," one of the Kiri Jonin ordered, his voice disinterested. A child was a triviality. Their focus was the green-clad monster whose chakra was spiking alarmingly.
Is this the power of youth? It truly holds infinite possibility! Ragnar-sama, hold on! I will aid you as soon as I deal with these! Dai was moved to tears by Ragnar's "bravery."
"Fifth Gate: Gate of Limit, OPEN!"
"Sixth Gate: Gate of View, OPEN!"
Two more Gates shattered open in succession. Six Gates total.
The transformation was terrifying. The blue chakra aura around Dai darkened to a violent, pulsating emerald green. His hair stood completely on end, swirling in the torrent of energy. His eyes lost all pigment, becoming pools of solid, glowing white. The air around him screamed, torn into a raging whirlwind that ripped bark from trees and kicked up a storm of debris for a hundred meters. His aura now scraped against the lower edges of the Kage-level spectrum.
"I am the Dark Emerald Beast of Konoha, whose youth is now unleashed! Genin, Might Dai!" he declared, his voice resonating with power.
"Damn it… this is a genin?!" one of the Kiri Jonin spat, all prior condescension gone.
"A FINE MEAT!"
WHOOSH-BOOM!
Dai moved. He became a green meteor. He didn't run; he blasted through space. Afterimages littered the clearing. Each footfall shattered tree trunks or cratered the earth. He was a force of pure, anthropomorphic destruction.
"Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique!"
"Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet!"
The two Jonin reacted in sync, unleashing their strongest arts. An A-rank tidal wave materialized from the moist forest air, and within its crest, a colossal water dragon took shape, roaring. The combined force was catastrophic, turning a swath of forest into a raging, inland sea. There was no cover, no high ground to evade.
Might Dai didn't try. His youthful flames burned too brightly. He charged headlong into the converging cataclysm of water, a green speck swallowed by the azure fury.
Meanwhile, Ragnar faced his own predicament: one versus seven chunin. They had him encircled.
His expression remained impassive.
SHAVE! He vanished from the center.
MOON WALK! He kicked off the air, ascending above their heads.
From his aerial vantage, he dove like a raptor.
"Armament Haki: Hardening!"
"Spiral Force!"
His right arm turned to black iron. White vapor, the sign of compressed power, hissed from his skin as his muscles expanded. He focused the crude, 20% Spiral Force compression into his fist.
He didn't aim for a person. He aimed for the ground in the center of their loose formation.
KABOOOOOM!
The fist struck the earth. A dome of dark red and black energy—a Haki Dominion Field—erupted from the impact point. The world within its radius seemed to desaturate, turning monochrome and heavy. The very ground lost cohesion, fracturing and collapsing in a cascading sinkhole. Huge clods of earth were launched into the air. The seven chunin cried out as their footing vanished, thrown into disarray.
In that moment of chaos, suspended in the air by Moon Walk, Ragnar's eyes—cold and analytical behind the mental image of his mask—swept over them.
Targets acquired.
It was time to harvest.
