Chapter 158 - [158] Planting False Evidence – Fudge Takes the Blame Yet Again

Professor McGonagall and Mrs. Weasley were preparing to enter the ward to listen in, worried that Argus would be interrogated by the Aurors.

As a result, they were blocked at the door by several Aurors!

The look that Argus gave Alan Mitchell just now was a signal that he should have someone guard the door, and that he had something to discuss with him.

However, he underestimated Professor McGonagall and Mrs. Weasley's determination to protect him.

Aurors already had a poor reputation in the British magical community, not to mention Argus had been subjected to forced interrogation by the Ministry of Magic.

He had almost been forced to drink Veritaserum!

This made Professor McGonagall and Mrs. Weasley even more worried about Argus's safety!

"Mr. Grindelwald is a student of Hogwarts, and as a professor at Hogwarts, it is my duty to protect his safety!"

"Mr. Grindelwald is safe and does not need protection."

"Safety? Have you forgotten what the Aurors did to Argus before?!" Mrs. Weasley was not a person with a good temper.

If it weren't for the fact that they were barely colleagues with her husband, she would not have hesitated to give them a piece of her mind.

She doubted they'd even say a kind word!

"Professor McGonagall, Mrs. Weasley, please don't make things difficult for us."

"This matter involves too many things, and we must ensure that the information we receive is free from any interference."

A more mature-looking Auror stepped forward and spoke.

"What do you mean? Do you think we'll threaten Argus?"

Mrs. Weasley was furious when she heard that.

Good grief, she thought, you bunch of people with criminal records dare to doubt us? Who gave you the courage!

Argus, who had just entered the ward, had no choice but to come out and comfort the two of them.

"Professor McGonagall, Mrs. Weasley, please rest assured, I will call on you for help if anything happens."

Hearing Argus's words, Mrs. Weasley's expression softened slightly.

She hugged Argus and said, "Good boy, don't be afraid."

"Just say what you mean. If they dare to use any means against you, Professor McGonagall and I will stand up for you."

Professor McGonagall didn't say anything, but she conveyed her attitude with her eyes.

"Thank you, Mrs. Weasley."

"Thank you too, Professor McGonagall."

Alan Mitchell also came out to reassure the two, and after a series of persuasions, the two finally gave up the idea of accompanying him.

But they remained at the main gate, ready to enter at any moment.

...

After Argus and Alan entered the ward.

A soundproofing spell was immediately cast to ensure that the sound inside the ward would not be transmitted to the outside world.

"Tell me everything that happened at Hogwarts, including what Professor McGonagall said," Alan instructed.

"Yes!"

Only Argus and Alan Mitchell were present, and Alan Mitchell no longer tried to hide his true feelings as Argus began to recount everything that happened at Hogwarts in detail.

This included the search for Argus within Slytherin.

Argus did not show much reaction after hearing this.

When he couldn't sleep last night, he had already mentally rehearsed the possible ways Hogwarts might handle the situation and the subsequent countermeasures.

When Dumbledore came to him last night, he made it clear that he wanted to keep things quiet.

It would be far too risky for him to choose to uncover the truth himself.

Regardless of how many people would choose to believe it, if Dumbledore was really pushed to the limit, who knew what he might do.

The truth could be revealed, but it couldn't come from him!

He turned his gaze to Alan Mitchell.

Finding the truth was not easy, but once one knew the truth, finding evidence was not so difficult.

"There's one more thing!"

Suddenly remembering something, Alan hurriedly said, "I was worried that Hogwarts wouldn't have enough staff, so I sent someone to the Ministry of Magic in advance to tell Fudge what happened at Hogwarts."

"He'll find out sooner or later; it doesn't make much difference whether he finds out sooner or later." Argus shook his head, indicating that he didn't care.

He continued, "The key point is the truth of the matter!"

"The truth?"

"What Professor McGonagall told you was the version that Dumbledore had processed."

"I need you to, after you know the truth, deduce the inconsistencies in Dumbledore's words and find evidence to support them."

"Is it possible?"

Argus was unsure whether the Chamber of Secrets had already been cleaned by Dumbledore, so he did not give a direct order.

If Dumbledore had cleared the room beforehand, he could have removed evidence from the Chamber of Secrets that was detrimental to Hogwarts or himself.

It was indeed quite difficult to find any clues about him.

Alan Mitchell thought for a moment: "The Aurors have already gone to the secret chamber to look for evidence."

"I need to know the differences between the two statements, as well as their results, before I can make a judgment."

Argus nodded and repeated everything that had happened last night for the fourth time.

Alan Mitchell gradually fell into deep thought.

Argus didn't urge him, and gently took a sip of the lemon juice that was placed on the bedside table.

After a long while, Alan slowly opened his mouth.

"So, any leads?"

"There are some, but we need to see the scene to make a judgment. If we can't find concrete evidence... it's very difficult."

"Evidence…" Argus tapped his knuckles lightly on the table.

"You just said that you've already notified Fudge?"

"That's right."

"Let him go find the evidence."

"Him?" Alan Mitchell asked, puzzled.

During this period, he had too many contacts with Fudge at the Ministry of Magic.

With Fudge's limited abilities, let alone finding evidence—Alan would be incredibly grateful if he could even go to the secret room himself!

"You just need to tell him your suspicions, and the evidence will come naturally, understand?"

"Understood!"

Alan Mitchell finally understood what Argus meant.

No evidence? No problem, just make one up!

As long as it wasn't their side that did the dirty work, Dumbledore wouldn't suspect the acolytes.

"The fabrication of one lie often requires countless lies to cover it up."

"When all the lies are exposed, will Dumbledore still be the greatest white wizard in the eyes of British wizards?"

Argus's understated suggestion once again pointed Alan Mitchell in the right direction.

He bowed and said, "I understand what you mean."

"Good that you understand. It's almost time. If we don't get out soon, Professor McGonagall and Mrs. Weasley will probably barge in."

"You should get some rest. I'll handle this."

"You can't handle it. They won't let you go until they see me safe and sound."

Argus removed the soundproofing spell and cleaned up all traces of the spell in the room.

Only then did he open the door.

As soon as it was opened, Mrs. Weasley rushed over.

"Are you alright, Argus? Did he do anything to you?"

"I'm fine, Mrs. Weasley, thank you for your concern." Argus smiled slightly, stepped aside to make way for Alan Mitchell, and let him out.

After a brief farewell to the three, Alan Mitchell and his group of Aurors turned and left.

Only after they had walked a distance did Mrs. Weasley let out a cold snort.

"This Director Auror is not bad."

"At least not like Scrimgeour, who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals."
