As soon as Argus entered, a pungent, fishy stench assaulted his nostrils.
Small, fragmented bones were scattered on the ground.
This caused Argus to frown.
It wasn't until he cast a Bubble-Head Charm on himself that he finally recovered.
"Next, we should prepare to deal with the basilisk."
He vaguely sensed a peculiar spatial fluctuation.
"Fawkes? It must be that one, because it's the only one that would come at this time."
"Dumbledore still doesn't trust me, and wants Fawkes to come and cover for me."
"It's a pity that it can't see what happened this time..."
...
Meanwhile, Harry and his two companions continued their exploration.
Not far away, they saw a huge snake molt.
"What is this? How terrifying!" Ron exclaimed, taking two steps back and almost tripping over himself.
"It's a snake's molt!" Lockhart was, after all, a Ravenclaw graduate.
He had spent many years working in the upper echelons of the magical world and had read a lot of materials in order to write his book.
His vision and knowledge far surpassed those of Harry and Ron.
He could tell something was wrong at a glance.
"Judging from the snake molt, it's at least sixty feet long, maybe even more!"
Thinking back to the petrified students and the Moaning Myrtle, Lockhart instantly realized something.
"It's a basilisk..."
"Basilisk? What's a basilisk?" Harry asked urgently.
Lockhart's eyes were filled with fear, and his legs trembled uncontrollably: "A terrifying magical creature!"
"Any creature that makes eye contact with it will be killed!"
thump!
After saying that, he turned around and fell to the ground without any hesitation.
"He...did he faint?"
Ron nudged Lockhart and looked at Harry incredulously.
"He's a professor, how could he faint so easily!"
He looked at the snake molt on the ground, and a hint of retreat appeared on his face.
"Harry, should we go back and tell the professor? This snake is too long for us to handle!"
"I'm afraid... it's too late!"
Harry's Parseltongue had already heard the basilisk's cries behind him.
He grabbed Ron's clothes and ran away!
"Run! Don't look back!"
Upon hearing this, Ron dared not look any further!
He kept his eyes tightly shut, afraid that he might accidentally run into the basilisk.
He gripped Harry's hand tightly, as if afraid the other would let go.
Argus watched quietly from a distance as Harry and Ron were chased and fled in disarray by the basilisk, showing no intention of intervening.
"Let's see how long you can hold out, Fawkes!"
"I will not make a move until you do!"
As time went on, Harry and Ron slowed down more and more.
The serpent monster behind them showed no sign of slowing down.
The distance between them grew closer and closer, so close that Harry and Ron could smell the basilisk's foul body odor!
"Think of something quick, Harry!"
"I don't want to be fed to the snakes! Waaaaah..."
Ron ran and cried, his face covered in tears and snot.
Harry was extremely anxious at this moment.
Ron thought bitterly that he had suggested going to see the professor or the Auror, but Harry had insisted on saying no!
Now that something had happened, they were counting on him again!
Was this how they did things?!
Bang!
The basilisk's enormous fangs snapped down, nearly biting Ron's body.
Ron stumbled and fell to the ground.
"Harry! Help me!"
Faced with the basilisk closely following behind, Ron cried his heart out and scrambled towards Harry's direction.
Harry hesitated for a moment, then closed his eyes tightly and immediately turned around!
Hiss!
The basilisk shook its head, seemingly angry that it had missed its bite.
With a flick of its tail, it charged towards Harry and Ron again!
"So tolerant? Dumbledore really dares to let Harry die here?"
Argus quietly moved his position to the side, behind the basilisk.
In doing so, he could see the movements of the group while avoiding the basilisk's line of sight.
His hand had already reached for the wand hidden in his sleeve.
Just then, a loud phoenix cry rang out in mid-air!
Fawkes appeared in mid-air engulfed in flames, its two seemingly slender claws gripping the basilisk's eyes tightly.
Pull hard!
Two eyeballs the size of a human head were crushed by Fawkes's claws!
The snake, having lost its eyes and now suffering excruciating pain, writhed wildly in agony.
The basilisk's gaping maw kept opening, trying to tear at its own eyes.
But Fawkes was no ordinary magical creature; its claws gripped the basilisk's eyes tightly.
It would not give the serpent any chance to fight back.
The entire cave was filled with dust caused by the basilisk monster.
The stone pillars overhead kept falling!
"The opportunity has arrived!"
Argus smiled knowingly and raised his hand, sending a barely perceptible beam of light towards the top of the basilisk's head!
"Bombarda!"
boom!
The stone pillars above the basilisk's head, already teetering on the brink of collapse from its impact, all fell instantly under Argus's influence!
After being hit several times, Fawkes released its claws and hurriedly tried to dodge.
Unexpectedly, the basilisk ignored the pain of being hit and bit it!
"Harry, let's run!"
Harry and Ron stared blankly at the battle between the two top magical creatures. Only after hearing a series of thuds as stones hit the ground did they snap out of their daze and frantically flee towards the entrance.
Unfortunately, they realized it too late.
The basilisk was so large that it was not seriously injured even if it was hit by a rock.
Fawkes was different; the size difference was obvious, and even a slight bump from a rock would affect its flight.
Despite the impact of countless falling rocks, Fawkes was eventually bitten by the basilisk.
After a mournful cry, it turned into a pile of ashes.
"The surveillance cameras are finally gone."
"Next, it will be my turn soon."
Argus smirked, pointing his wand at the basilisk's head, ready to unleash his magic at any moment.
Harry and Ron ran until they were out of breath before they remembered something.
"Invisibility Cloak, Harry, your Invisibility Cloak!"
Having received the hint, Harry quickly put on the Invisibility Cloak.
But what was the point of wearing it now?
The basilisk was already blind. Did it make any difference whether they hid or not in front of a blind creature?
The Invisibility Cloak not only failed to allow the two to escape from the basilisk's jaws, but also slowed them down.
The basilisk had cornered them!
It flicked its tongue and quickly approached!
"It's over, it's completely over this time! Waaah..." Ron cried his eyes out.
Harry quickly covered his mouth.
"Don't speak, it can't see us!"
There was still a chance!
Ron nodded hastily when he saw that the basilisk did not bite him directly.
He tried his best not to make a sound, not even daring to breathe!
But the basilisk continued to approach the two, and the distance between them was getting smaller and smaller!
At this rate, it wouldn't be long before it found the two of them!
Seeing Ron's desperate gaze, Harry felt a pang of regret.
He shouldn't have believed Ron. If he had brought a professor with him, this wouldn't have happened!
Just as he closed his eyes and quietly awaited death, another strange event occurred!
