Chapter 92 - [92] Plotting the Slytherin Locket Grab

Not only Fudge, but Amelia was also completely bewildered.

None of the dozen or so names that Tonks read next were recommended by the two of them.

And without exception, they were all the same person!

Fudge stared blankly at everyone.

I told you to choose whatever you wanted, and you actually did!

Do you have any emotional intelligence?

Can you really take what your boss says seriously?

"Alan Mitchell!"

"Alan Mitchell!"

"Alan Mitchell!"

As the number of notes on the table dwindled, Fudge and Amelia's expressions grew increasingly grim.

"Alan Mitchell!"

After reading the last note, Tonks, unwilling to get involved any more, immediately disappeared into the crowd.

Umbridge hesitated, glanced at Fudge, and picked up the parchment recording the number of votes from a short distance away.

"Nepal, Bosd, a total of eight votes."

"Sean Scott, six votes in total."

"Taylor Kenneth, one vote in total."

"Allen Mitchell, a total of twenty-one votes."

"Minister... this..."

"Should we hold a new election...?"

Upon hearing this, Fudge wished he could rush up and slap Umbridge twice!

You idiot, how can you say something like that!

Even if I want to choose again, I can't say it outright!

What will others think if you do this?

Not to mention Amelia was there too!

Amelia almost burst out laughing when she heard this.

Her tone was full of sarcasm.

"The Minister is truly fair and just!"

"Why don't you just appoint whoever you think is suitable? Why bother with a vote?"

"Anyway, if it's not the person you've chosen, we have to start all over again!"

Bullshit! If you had said that earlier, would we have needed to vote here?

You've said all the nice things!

To have one's own agenda!

Fudge's eyes were wide open, like a bull's, but he could only sulk in silence.

He glared at Umbridge, then scanned the crowd, trying to find Alan Mitchell, who had taken his position.

"As Minister of Magic, I would never do something so shameful!"

"Who is Alan Mitchell? Show yourself!"

A chestnut-haired man stepped out of the crowd and bowed to Fudge and Amelia.

"Your Excellency, Director Bones, hello."

"I am Alan Mitchell."

"You…" Fudge looked at the man in front of him and hesitated.

He looked at the man and felt he recognized him, but he couldn't quite place where he had seen him before.

At this point, it was time for the seasoned henchman Umbridge to step in.

"Your Excellency, Mr. Mitchell joined the Auror Department six months ago."

She leaned close to Fudge's ear and whispered something.

"He's one of ours! His name was on the list when you were selecting people."

"It's just that you felt he was too inexperienced and wouldn't be able to command respect even if he became the director, so you didn't include him."

Upon hearing this, Fudge immediately perked up.

He had prepared for the worst-case scenario that he might send someone to contact Alan Mitchell again, or even that Mitchell might defect to Amelia.

Unexpectedly, things took an unexpected turn!

After much stumbling and falling, it was still one of his own people who became the Auror Director!

He coughed lightly a few times, and his gaze toward Alan Mitchell became even more eager.

"Mr. Mitchell, you don't need to be so polite."

"Since the Aurors have chosen you, you will be the new head of the Auror Department."

"Manage the Auror Command Center well!"

"Hahaha..."

Amelia's face was as black as charcoal.

She stared coldly at Alan Mitchell.

"Congratulations, new Auror Director!"

Alan Mitchell smiled faintly and gave a polite bow.

This made Fudge even more smug.

"Director Bones, the head of the Auror Department has been selected. I think we should let them continue their mission."

"We have a lot of things piling up lately, so let's not waste any more time."

Amelia snorted coldly, turned around and left the Auror's office.

Fudge walked over to Alan Mitchell and patted him on the shoulder earnestly.

"From now on, the position of Director Auror will be yours."

"Never do anything like Scrimgeour that's beneath you!"

Alan Mitchell could easily understand the meaning behind Fudge's words.

On the surface, it's to prevent myself from making the same mistakes as Scrimgeour.

He's actually pointing it out at myself!

Obey his orders, and don't become like Scrimgeour, who built up his own power base!

"Minister, with you leading the Auror Command, it's impossible for someone like Scrimgeour to abuse his power again!"

Fudge smiled broadly, his face crinkling with wrinkles, after receiving a satisfactory reply.

"Alright, alright, don't worry, Director Auror will never be your end!"

"Work hard, and you'll have a bright future!"

"If you need anything, just ask Umbridge, she'll help you!"

Umbridge wisely gave him a sweet smile.

To be honest, she didn't like this chestnut-haired man.

With the other person around, her standing in Fudge's eyes would be greatly diminished.

But she also knew that the other party was currently riding high, and Fudge would never allow her to trip him up.

She had no choice but to compromise for now.

After Fudge left, Alan Mitchell immediately began reviewing the Auror Command's files.

And all the messages were secretly passed on to Argus's manor.

...

That evening, Argus learned everything that had happened at the Ministry of Magic.

"With the position of Head of the Auror Department, it will be much easier to insert people into the Ministry of Magic in the future."

"Starting with the Aurors, it slowly spread to the entire Ministry of Magic..."

He looked at the series of intelligence reports from Alan Mitchell and muttered to himself.

"Werewolf... Missing in the Albanian forest... Detection of Dark Arts items..."

"If I remember correctly, Voldemort is still half-dead in the Albanian forest, and the missing wizard is probably related to him."

"The Auror-supervised inspection of dark magic items was the beginning of Lucius taking out his diary."

"Some of the dark magic items were put up for sale at Borgin and Burkes, while the diary was secretly thrown to Ginny."

Argus wanted to get his hands on the diary before Lucius threw it into Ginny's hands.

But then he thought, given Lucius's cautious nature, Voldemort wouldn't give him directly what he was given.

No matter how talented you are, age is a limiting factor.

Lucius wouldn't put all his eggs in one basket with his little boy.

"Lucius didn't know that the diary was Voldemort's Horcrux, otherwise he wouldn't have thrown it away."

"This is a great opportunity, a great opportunity to completely tear the Malfoy family off Voldemort's ship..."

"If Lucius knew he had thrown Voldemort's Horcrux, he wouldn't need to lift a finger; he would have sought protection himself!"

"Voldemort's resurrection will occur during the Triwizard Tournament. I need to demonstrate sufficient strength during this period in order to truly gain the Malfoy family's allegiance."

"The right thing to do is to take this opportunity to get my hands on the Slytherin pendant first..."
