She couldn't tell him. Couldn't explain about the system, about being trapped in a story, about death sequences and plot corrections. Her mouth opened but no words came out.


Run. She should run. Get away from here, from him, from whatever was coming—


But what if running was exactly what the plot wanted? What if fleeing led her straight into death's arms? The system had warned her—account for help. What if Hyrin was the help, and running away from him was the mistake that would kill her?


"Something's coming," Hyrin said, pushing himself to his feet in one fluid motion. The exhaustion vanished from his face, replaced by pure alertness. "Get behind me—"
