Chapter 170 - Chapter 170 – Emperor's Right Hand? Worth a Try!

Rolling Surf, Bursting Bloom, Frosty Freeze, and Glimmer Storm.

These were the names Red obtained from the Move Tutor at the Fuchsia City Pokémon Center — four brand-new Partner Moves unique to this version of the game world.

As Red's will stirred, each of these Partner Moves manifested its effects one by one before his eyes.

The first was Rolling Surf, a special Water-type attack. Unlike Splishy Splash, which absorbed an opponent's vitality through thrown water bubbles, this one was pure offense.

Just from its name alone, Rolling Surf clearly screamed devastation!

The move's effect was similar to Surf—summoning a towering tidal wave to crush the enemy—but within that surge of water hid strands of electric energy, leaving its targets paralyzed after impact.

"A powered-up Surf!?"

Red's eyes flashed, excitement gleaming within.

Immediately, an image surfaced in his mind…

"If Laboon learns this move, then the Straw Hat Pirates would have their very own tsunami generator!"

With Laboon's massive body and the amplifying power of Pokémon moves—even if the damage itself wasn't cataclysmic, the scale alone would be terrifying enough to send most enemies fleeing in panic.

Its deterrence could rival ancient weapons with island-destroying capabilities.

And if Laboon's Rolling Surf were combined with his own Surf…

The Straw Hat Pirates would be invincible upon the sea!

Of course, something that important was not to be shouted aloud.

Though Laboon was already the crew's highest-level Pokémon at level 62, his status screen told the real story—his innate potential was actually among the lowest in the crew, barely above Smoker's.

His sheer size also made him an easy target, and without the agility to compensate, he was far too vulnerable to focused attacks.Until Laboon's strength grew to a sufficient threshold, Red had no intention of revealing that trump card to the world.

Turning his gaze, Red looked toward the second Partner Move—Bursting Bloom.

Despite having "bomb" in its name, this Grass-type move retained the soothing nature typical of Grass attacks. Its effect was simple: summoning a vine to strike the opponent.

However, what set Bursting Bloom apart from Vine Whip was this—the vine carried countless Leech Seeds along its surface.

When the vine struck, the seeds would take root on the opponent's body, draining their vitality in turn.

One move with the combined power of Vine Whip and Leech Seed.

No need to discuss efficiency—it was off the charts!

"As expected of a meta-defining Partner Move!" Red sighed in admiration, then shifted his attention to the third one—an Ice-type move called Frosty Freeze.

Despite its icy name and classification, the move's special effect had nothing to do with ice.

Move: Frosty FreezeType: IceCategory: SpecialPower: 90Description: Summons cold crystalline mist to attack over a wide area. All targets within the range have their stat changes nullified, returning to their original state.

Compared to the previous two straightforward move descriptions, this one was… oddly perplexing.

Red stared at it for nearly a minute before realizing what it implied.

"It only resets stat changes—not health or status conditions."

"So this… is a move that removes buffs from enemies or debuffs from allies?"

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "But does that include Devil Fruit powers under the category of 'stat changes'…?"

"If that's the case, then this move could be the equivalent of an anti-Devil Fruit field!"

A glint of intrigue crossed Red's eyes—he could hardly wait to test it with Chopper.

If nothing else, Zoan-type users who transformed their bodies should fall under this move's effect.

After all, activating their ability drastically altered their physical attributes.

At this rate… wouldn't Chopper become Kaido's natural nemesis in the future!?

Hmm…Ice counters Dragon.Makes perfect sense!

Finally, Red turned his attention to the last of the four Partner Moves—the only one Luffy himself could learn.

Glimmer Storm.

Move: Glimmer StormType: FairyCategory: SpecialPower: 90Description: Summons a fragrant, dazzling whirlwind that damages foes and removes status ailments from allies.

"As expected of a Fairy-type move—so flashy and full of surprises!"

Without hesitation, Red called over Luffy, who was tinkering with the healing machine beside Nurse Joy, and replaced his Play Rough with Glimmer Storm.

While Play Rough fit Luffy's combat style better on paper, Red had long realized something—Pokémon moves weren't bound solely by their listed type.

Take Tri Attack, for instance. Though labeled Normal-type, it actually channeled Normal-type energy to create or convert into Fire, Electric, and Ice energies.

Likewise, the paralyzing effect of Rolling Surf came from converting a fraction of Water energy into Electric energy mid-cast.

The patterns were many—and clear.

So in essence, Play Rough was a Normal-type move disguised as Fairy-type.He hoped Glimmer Storm, being a purer Fairy-type move, might help Luffy deepen his understanding of his Fruit ability.

———

Ten minutes later.Fuchsia City, inside the Fuchsia Gym.

"Luffy! Use Glimmer Storm! Finish it!"

A faint pink gleam flashed within Red's eyes.In an instant, his command reached Luffy's mind through Psychic Power.

Beaten and bruised, Luffy grinned brightly."Leave it to me!"

Whoosh!

At once, a strong, sweet fragrance burst from Luffy's body, coiling in the air and forming a multicolored storm.

Within the wind, the poison afflicting him faded away. The dark burns on his skin from the venom began to subside, and though the marks remained, such wounds meant little to Luffy.

"As expected of a new move!"

Feeling the refreshing energy coursing through him, Luffy's face lit up in joy.

He had been puzzled earlier—why Red forbade him from using Gear Fourth and even told him to take a direct hit from poison.

Now he understood.

Red wanted him to experience the healing nature of Glimmer Storm, so he could apply it better in battle later.

"But still…""Using my body to test it out—Red really hasn't changed one bit!""No wonder everyone's afraid of him~"

Luffy pouted.

As a Fairy-type, he was naturally weak against Poison. And the enemy—a Koffing trained to level 44—was no pushover.

He wasn't about to faint after one or two hits, but that piercing agony when poison splashed on his skin… he felt all of it.

Sensing Luffy's thoughts through Psychic Power, Red smirked and replied telepathically:"Come on, it's just the first time."

"Sometimes you need a little pain to really remember a lesson."

"Besides, you might run into other poison-users someday—consider this practice."

"Time's running out. End this!"

"Got it~!"

In the real world he was the captain—but here, just another Pokémon under Red's command.Luffy obediently nodded.

A surge of Conqueror's Haki burst from his body, flames rippling along his chest in crimson waves.

"Gear Fourth—Boundman!"

Boom! Boom!

Steam gushed from his body as he bounced around the wooden floor of the Fuchsia Gym, each impact ringing like coiled metal springs.

"W-what the…?"

The Gym Trainer, who had just commanded his Koffing to dodge, froze at the sight before him.His eyes widened in disbelief.

"What's going on!? Did his Pokémon just… evolve!?"

Still baffled, the trainer shouted,"Koffing, use Sludge Bomb! Now!"

"Ko–ffing!"

The Koffing roared, spewing a mass of foul purple sludge toward Luffy.

But Boundman Luffy only smirked."Your attacks won't hit me anymore!"

"Elastic—Shave!"

Bang!

With a powerful stomp, Luffy vanished—turning into a deep red blur that reappeared beside Koffing in an instant.

"Not good!"

"Use Protect!"

The Fuchsia Gym trainer barked out the command just in time—his reflexes sharp from years of ninja training.

"Gum-Gum King Kong Gun!!!"

BOOM!!!

A colossal fist crashed down like a falling mountain ridge, slamming straight into Koffing.

Thanks to Protect, the attack didn't cause real damage—but the sheer force drained nearly all of Koffing's stamina.

Even so, it was just a desperate struggle.

Under the overwhelming pressure of Luffy's might and higher level, the battle ended swiftly.Within ten minutes, the Koffing whimpered and collapsed, unable to fight further.

———

Victory!

The strong opponent granted Luffy immense experience.Under Red's command and evaluation bonuses, his experience bar finally reached its limit.

A divine light shimmered across Luffy's body.

The exhaustion from Gear Fourth's energy drain faded, and even the instability of his transformation was instantly restored.

The attribute boosts from leveling up pushed all his stats past 1,150 points!

Combined with his Pokémon moves and Gear Fourth's amplification…

Luffy's strength now stood shoulder to shoulder with the lower-tier Warlords—a true Emperor's Right Hand level fighter!
