Chapter 30 - Chapter 30

First Time, First Time, First Time.

The company's stock was sky-high.

On the screen.

The screen switched.

[Classic Scene 6: First Time Taking Off the Armor!]

[After the first press conference.]

As Tony had predicted, Stark Industries' stock plummeted.

On the first day alone, it dropped 40%.

Each share lost $56.5—an enormous blow.

This was because Tony's country had no concept of upper or lower limits.

So if someone shorted the stock, it could theoretically fall to 10% of its original value in just one day.

Tony couldn't help but think of that mysterious country far in the East.

He had heard that their stock market had daily price limits.

Each stock could not fall more than 10% per day; if it reached that limit, trading would be forced to stop.

Tony sighed. This was, in fact, a form of protection for retail investors.

With such a safeguard, no matter how badly a stock fell, it could never collapse completely.

He didn't understand why investors in that country called their A-shares "Myanmar A-shares."

Strange, really. Perhaps they didn't know how to cherish what they had.

Even with the stock plummeting, Tony didn't care.

What mattered now was improving the Mark I armor.

[After the desert battle, he realized the Mark I had serious flaws.]

[Most dangerously, the armor's propulsion system was weak.]

If he hadn't eliminated nearly all the enemies in the cave,

[the short ballistic arc would have left him caught in less than half an hour.]

So now he decided to upgrade the propulsion system at home.

[In the lab.]

Tony strapped on a new, partially finished foot propulsion device and spoke to a few intelligent robots nearby.

Tony: "Bubba, be smart. You're just a part-time firefighter.

You—start firing.

Ready.

Three, two, one! Ignite!"

[A loud explosion!]

The powerful recoil hurled Tony into the wall.

[He crashed to the ground, losing consciousness.]

[And Bubba, the robot, still obediently sprayed the extinguisher at Tony, as commanded.]

Back at Stark Tower,

Tony felt cornered.

He only felt a dull ache in his teeth.

"Ugh—I can feel the pain without even thinking."

Pepper laughed beside him.

Tony, slightly embarrassed: "What's so funny?"

Pepper: "Haha.

You getting thrown into the wall is 100% hilarious.

That stupid robot kept spraying you even though there was no fire—it's too funny."

Tony tried to make excuses,

but recalling the scene, he couldn't help but laugh.

[After many failed attempts.]

Tony finally understood why he kept failing.

[The key was that the thrusters were only on his feet.]

[Not on his hands.]

[And the direction of the thrusters was wrong.]

He had thought they propelled him straight up, but they actually angled backward along an arc.

Without installing propellers on his hands, the force would push him forward instead.

He would never fly properly.

[After careful thought, Tony installed propellers on both hands and feet.]

[In the garage.]

Tony resumed his experiments.

Tony: "Day 11, Test 37, Version 2.0.

Since there's no choice, Bubba is still doing part-time firefighting."

[Bubba raised his robotic arm, ready to spray.]

Tony quickly said: "If you spray me again and I'm not on fire, I'll donate you to the city university."

Hearing this, Bubba drooped his arm like a child who had done something wrong.

[Tony officially began the experiment.]

He adjusted the propeller output to just 1% of its original power.

[Meanwhile, he positioned his hands on the control buttons.]

[From the start, he couldn't maintain balance.]

Gradually, he lifted off the ground.

Finally, he landed smoothly.

The experiment was a success.

(Scene change.)

[A series of robotic arms installed components onto Tony.]

[A shiny silver suit, sleek and mechanical.]

[Clearly superior to the Mark I in both function and appearance.]

Tony spoke to J.A.R.V.I.S., now integrated into the Mark II suit.

Tony: "Check weather and air traffic, ready?"

Three, two, one! Lift-off!

Tony, wearing the Mark II armor, soared from the garage into the sky.

[Though slightly unstable at first, he gained control.]

He was ecstatic.

After all, he was likely the first person in the world to fly solo.

Night had fallen.

Tony felt like a comet streaking across the sky.

Enjoying his first flight.

Back at Stark Tower.

Pop!

Tony opened a bottle of champagne.

He was celebrating early.

After all, with the video proof, his suit was nearly complete.

For him, early celebration was no big deal.

Colonel Rhodes couldn't tolerate it.

He had been a soldier for too long to allow someone to celebrate before achieving complete victory.

So he said: "Tony, your armor isn't even finished. Celebrating early is inappropriate."

Tony patted his chest coolly.

"Hey, Rhodey, take a good look.

The armor in the video is mine. You can follow it. Don't you believe I can make it?"

"Give me some time. Maybe tomorrow night, I'll finish the second suit.

What's wrong with celebrating early?"

Colonel Rhodes shrugged, unable to win against Tony.

"Fine, suit yourself."

Tony beamed, excited.

After all, he was soaring through the sky alone.

He was the first.

He sipped champagne, holding Pepper close, smiling.

"See, Pepper, my Mark II armor is the best in the world!

This is the greatest invention!"

The video continued.

Tony played in the air, then decided to challenge himself.

Tony: "J.A.R.V.I.S., what's the SR-71 Blackbird flight record?"

J.A.R.V.I.S.: "Sir, the maximum altitude is 85,000 feet."

Tony laughed.

Tony: "Records are meant to be broken. Let's go!"

[He increased the thruster power, shooting skyward.]

J.A.R.V.I.S.: "Sir, icing at high altitude may cause serious accidents."

Tony ignored the warning.

Tony: "Don't worry about it. Go full power!"

[The Mark II accelerated to maximum.]

Then…

A snap.

(A corner of the suit had iced over from the cold.)

[Even a thin layer of ice was enough to damage the thrusters.]

So, in mid-air,

Tony, originally eager to break records,

grimaced and fell.

Back at Stark Tower.

Colonel Rhodes raised an eyebrow, unable to resist mocking.

"Tony, this is the 'best armor in the world'?"

Tony reached for another glass of champagne, but froze, embarrassed.
