Chapter 48 - Chapter 49: Uh Oh, Big Trouble!

Dexter stepped out, carrying the twenty-three resumes he had carefully selected again last night, and headed toward the restaurant.

Today was going to be busy. He had to interview these twenty-three women and finalize his hiring choices.

As for Fiona...

The same principle applied: Fiona needed to actively save herself, just like she did in the middle to late seasons of the original show. Otherwise, no one could help, and she would just keep spiraling downwards again and again.

The crowd outside the restaurant door looked, quite naturally, even bigger today.

Dexter squeezed to the front door, unlocked it, and then first picked up the resumes that had been shoved in and dropped onto the floor yesterday and this morning. After dealing with the crowd of women outside, he was finally able to sit down and start making phone calls.

After finishing the calls, about twenty to thirty people said they would arrive as soon as possible. Dexter then settled down to wait.

The interview process wasn't complicated. After all, he was just hiring waitresses. It didn't take much time to figure out if they had an excellent appearance, a good figure, decent conversation skills, and a normal temperament.

In a flash, it was past three in the afternoon. Dexter had interviewed twenty-one women, with two still temporarily absent. Dexter stretched.

Just then, Kevin suddenly appeared at the restaurant door, grinning at Dexter. "Dexter, can I come in?"

Dexter was amused and nodded. "Sure, come on in."

Kevin pushed the door open, sat across from Dexter, smiled goofily, and asked, "How are the interviews going?"

Dex Restaurant wasn't far from the Alibi Room. Because of the high-paying job advertisements, Dex Restaurant was practically a household name in the area. Kevin had heard the buzz while walking around and wanted to come check in on Fiona's situation.

"Pretty much done with the selection," Dexter replied. He pulled out the resume of a woman he liked and handed it over. "Take a look."

Kevin was definitely interested in attractive women. He took the resume and immediately ignored the text, looking straight at the photo. Dexter noticed Kevin's action and couldn't help but smile.

"She's gorgeous, man. You've got great taste," Kevin admired the photo for a moment, put the resume down, and gave Dexter a sly grin.

Dexter admitted it openly. "Haha, right?"

"Be honest, do you have any other intentions?" Kevin asked mischievously.

"If I said I had absolutely no intentions, would you believe me?" Dexter laughed.

Kevin flat-out shook his head. "Nope."

"There you go, then."

The two joked around for a bit. Kevin found his chance to ask, "So, what's the deal now? Fiona isn't coming?"

"I don't know. Probably not. She hasn't called me, and I'm not interested in trying to convince her," Dexter replied, losing his smile and becoming serious.

Kevin sighed. "Man, I don't get what's going on in her head. A job this good, and she doesn't try to grab it."

"Everyone thinks differently. Her life is up to her," Dexter said. Then, he asked casually, "Speaking of which, my plan is to hire two waitresses. So far, I've only picked one. There's one spot left. Is Veronica interested?"

At this, Kevin was totally stunned, practically unable to believe his ears.

The truth was, Veronica was pretty, but honestly, compared to the huge crowd of beautiful women applying at Dex Restaurant, Veronica wasn't exactly a standout. Kevin had already known Dexter was looking for really gorgeous women, so he hadn't even brought up the idea of Veronica taking the job.

Now, hearing this...

"Are you serious, man?" Kevin had to confirm.

Dexter smiled and nodded. "Why would I joke about something like this? Veronica is pretty and a good fit for this place. If she's willing to come, she's welcome... though she might have to put up with a few minor things."

"????" Kevin didn't get it. "Like what?"

"I'll be direct, and don't get offended."

"Absolutely not. Go ahead," Kevin readily promised.

"First, Veronica will have to change her outfit while working to meet the restaurant's standards. Second, she needs to quickly get her education sorted out, at least get her GED... Other than that, it's all the same requirements I told Fiona."

Kevin grinned when he heard this. "That's nothing to worry about! I thought it was going to be a big deal, but it's just that stuff."

"Alright, I'll go talk to Veronica right now. She'll definitely be happy to come."

"Great, but make it fast, okay? Otherwise, if I pick another beautiful woman, it'll be too late," Dexter teased.

The reality was, as long as Veronica agreed, one of the waitress spots was hers.

"No way! I can't let that happen!" Kevin was excited; that's a lot of cash every month. "Okay, I'm out! Gotta go!"

Kevin meant what he said and practically scrambled to his feet to leave.

Just at that moment, a beautiful woman walked up to the door. She suddenly saw Kevin, a tall, burly guy who looked a little scary, rushing toward her. She jumped back a few steps, clutching her chest.

Kevin, who had just reached the door, saw her reaction and got embarrassed. He quickly spoke up, smiling apologetically at the startled woman. "I'm sorry! Did I scare you?"

The woman's big, bright eyes widened, and she nodded. "You did scare me."

"Don't worry, don't worry. I'm just in a hurry. Are you here for an interview?"

The woman nodded again. "Are you the boss?" The woman had already decided that if this guy, who looked like trouble, was the boss, she would immediately bolt.

"No, I'm not. The guy sitting inside is the boss. Please, come in," Kevin gestured for her to enter.

The woman looked past him at Dexter. 'The boss looks pretty normal,' she thought, but didn't move. "Aren't you in a hurry? You go first."

"..." Kevin wasn't so dense. He immediately realized this petite woman was worried about something going wrong and felt even more awkward. "Right."

He mumbled a response, walked out of the restaurant, and quickly headed off, still mortified.

The woman at the door finally stepped inside. "Hello, Boss. I'm here for the interview."

Dexter had watched the whole interaction and was highly entertained. "Hello. Please, have a seat."

The woman sat down across from Dexter.

"Name?"

Dexter felt a very strong connection to this blonde woman. He even thought her appearance perfectly matched his taste. He was already basically planning to discard the candidate whose resume he had just shown Kevin.

Then... Dexter suddenly realized something was off.

He had carefully reviewed all twenty-three resumes. This woman wasn't among them. He definitely would have remembered her.

Dexter was puzzled.

The blonde woman answered, "My name is Vivian, Vivian Ancestor."

Dexter: "?????????????"

'Don't ask me why I put so many question marks! If it were you, you'd probably have even more!'

Dexter was instantly dumbfounded.
