The Jackson House.

First floor.

Sheila covered her face, regretting her actions deeply. After quite a while, she calmed down a little and turned her head to look upstairs.

Looking up, Sheila inexplicably started missing Jody again.

The next second, Sheila dared not look anymore. She hurriedly withdrew her gaze, forcing herself to shift her attention.

Second floor, inside Karen's room.

Jody was satisfied and fell asleep lying on the bed.

Karen didn't sleep. Sitting in front of the computer, she was researching information.

Karen had been researching for two days. Searching back and forth, and after another half an hour or so, she finally made a decision.

She decided to go to Los Angeles to solve the problem of the baby. After it was done, she would go to the beach and visit Hollywood for fun.

With her decision made, Karen smiled happily. Without thinking much more, she nimbly turned off the computer, picked up her phone, and sent a text to Dexter: [I've decided. Going to Los Angeles.]

It was only past ten o'clock. Dexter wasn't asleep. Seeing the text, he replied casually: [Okay, when do you want to go?]

[Depends on your arrangement. Any day works,] Karen replied instantly.

[Alright, I'll make some contacts tomorrow,] Dexter replied.

[Thanks,] Karen replied.

Dexter didn't reply again.

Karen put down her phone, stretched luxuriously, and with a very good mood, imagined the scene of playing in Los Angeles.

Karen was really looking forward to it. After all, growing up, she had never left Chicago.

---

The Gallagher House.

Lip, who had slept like the dead in one breath, lay on the bed, opened his eyes, stared blankly at the yellowed ceiling for a while, and then got out of bed.

There was no one else in the room for the time being.

In order to leave the South Side with Kash, Ian was still busy at the convenience store with Kash, hoping to make more money by extending business hours.

Carl had returned, but it was still early. He didn't go upstairs and was watching TV on the first floor.

Lip silently looked around the familiar room, took his cigarettes, walked to the staircase landing outside the second floor, leaned on the railing, lit a cigarette, and subconsciously looked toward Dexter's house next door.

After looking for only two seconds, Lip hurriedly withdrew his gaze, daring not to look again.

The reason was simple.

Having experienced what happened during the day, Lip was truly afraid and dared not cause trouble anymore.

With a cigarette in his mouth, Lip turned to look at the night sky.

The summer starry sky was quite brilliant.

Lip stared blankly, lost in thought.

He had never been so desperate to leave this place, to truly become strong.

Just like that, Lip thought for a long time.

Accompanying his thoughts, the answers to some questions gradually became clear.

First, he realized he had to learn from Fiona. From now on, he mainly had to look out for himself... this family, Ian and the others, were no longer that important.

Second, the baby in Karen's belly couldn't be kept! He couldn't marry Karen either, otherwise, he was afraid he would be stuck in this hellhole of the South Side for the rest of his life, unable to escape!

Third, he had to take the SAT this winter. He had to get as high a score as possible, even a perfect score!! Then, strive for a university scholarship...

Finally, university... best to choose a university outside of Chicago! If he stayed in Chicago, maybe he would still be influenced by this family, this hellhole, and even Dexter.

Thinking and thinking, Lip lit another cigarette, took a fierce drag, and exhaled a long plume of smoke.

---

The Gallagher House, second floor.

Inside Debbie's room.

Debbie lay on the bed with her eyes open, also thinking.

The conversation with Dr. Miller this afternoon was very effective.

Dr. Miller made her realize many problems. Most importantly, she made Debbie realize that Frank was an extremely selfish and narcissistic man who didn't love her or care about her at all.

"The correct way is to pretend Frank doesn't exist. Debbie, I know it's very difficult for you to do this, but for your own sake, you must do this..."

Dr. Miller's words echoed unconsciously in Debbie's ears.

Debbie blinked subconsciously, feeling an incredible headache.

A long time passed.

Debbie suddenly got up, went out and downstairs, arriving next to Frank.

Frank had just taken quite a few pills and was feeling high and mighty, feeling very good. Seeing Debbie, he even smiled. "Debbie, about Fiona, you have to hurry. I don't have many days left to live."

Hearing this, Debbie bit her lip and spoke up. "Fiona won't agree. I... give up."

Hearing this, Frank immediately turned his head sharply, eyes widening as he stared at Debbie, shouting, "What the fxxk?? What do you mean you give up? How can you give up?"

"If you give up, what about me? You want to watch me die?"

"No! You absolutely cannot give up!!"

"Go, go find Fiona immediately, make her go to Dexter to borrow money!"

"..."

Frank shouted a stream of words in one breath.

Debbie pursed her lips and didn't make a sound. Only when Frank finished shouting did she move her mouth and speak. "Daddy, I won't ask Fiona for help again, but I will take care of you as best as I can, so your last days can be a bit more comfortable."

The words entered his ears.

Damn it, Frank was extremely afraid of death and didn't want to die. He couldn't stand hearing this and got genuinely angry instantly. "Fxxk! You fxxking..."

Frank started cursing directly, cursing unceremoniously.

Looking at such a Frank, listening to such abusive cursing...

Debbie's heart sank bit by bit to the bottom of the valley, and a clear sense of sadness gradually appeared on her small face.

The words she just said were a test, taught to her by Dr. Miller.

Now, the test had a result, and the result was exactly the same as what Dr. Miller said...

What did this prove?

It proved Dr. Miller was completely right.

Frank was a thorough scumbag who didn't care about her at all. The nice words he said to her a few days ago were purely to use her...

Once he found she had no utility value, Frank turned abusive...

'Such a father, better die sooner.'

With red eyes, Debbie suddenly thought this way. Then, she felt relieved all of a sudden, turned around, and went upstairs.

On the first floor, Carl, who witnessed the whole process with his own eyes, turned his head to watch Debbie's retreating figure. Subsequently, looking at Debbie, his mouth opened and closed a few times, but in the end, he said nothing, just feeling that this family really had a lot of shitty drama.

Debbie ran back to her room in one breath, slammed the door shut heavily, threw herself onto the bed, and cried silently.

Lip saw Debbie's behavior, sighed, and became even more determined in his thought to leave this place far behind.

---

A new day.

2118 North Wallace Street, life as usual.

Bianca woke up early, didn't disturb Dexter, went downstairs to open the back door, let Daijiu (the dog) go to the backyard to walk himself, then ducked into the kitchen and skillfully started making breakfast.

At 7:30 AM, Dexter sat at the dining table, thanked Bianca for her hard work as usual, and then prepared to eat breakfast.

Just at this moment.

Thump, thump, thump~~~

The front door was knocked.

Dexter was a bit too lazy to move, so he called Daijiu to open the door.

Daijiu was squatting by the dining table, about to eat meat, and was also too lazy to move. However, he still moved obediently and went to open the door.

The knocker was Carl. Seeing Daijiu, he smiled, then asked, "Dexter, can I come in?"

Recognizing it was Carl, Dexter replied immediately, "Come in. Just in time for breakfast."

Not long after.

Carl sat at the dining table. Bianca served a portion of breakfast and placed it in front of Carl.

"Thanks," Carl had really grown up a lot. Showing a slight smile, he thanked Bianca.

"You're welcome," Bianca replied with a smile.

Dexter ate two pieces of bacon. Knowing Carl wouldn't run over this early just for breakfast, and that nine out of ten times it was about Frank, he proactively asked Carl, "Looking for me for something?"

Hearing this, Carl was silent for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah. Debbie and I went to find Fiona yesterday. Fiona resolutely refused to come to you to borrow money."

"Then, last night, I don't know what happened to Debbie, she suddenly changed. She seems not to care about Frank anymore, doesn't care if Frank dies or not."

Carl said relatively calmly in one breath, "I still care. I hope Frank can survive."

"So, I want to ask, is there any other way you'd be willing to lend money to save him?"

Dexter listened quietly, somewhat puzzled by Debbie's situation.

So, what happened to Debbie?

Thinking for a moment, Dexter asked Bianca, "Frank is an alcoholic and ruined his liver. Now he needs at least a partial liver transplant to survive."

"As far as I know, this kind of surgery, besides needing money, also requires a suitable donor, right?"

By now, Bianca had determined Frank was a scumbag and had no feelings about Frank dying. She nodded. "Mm, yes."

"Assuming there is a suitable donor, how much would this kind of surgery cost roughly? Frank doesn't have health insurance."

Bianca thought for a moment. "I'm just a resident and don't know much about this kind of major surgery... Roughly speaking, it would probably need at least 150 to 200 thousand dollars."

Dexter turned to Carl again. "Carl, understood? Just having money is useless. There must be a donor too."

Carl roughly understood and thought slightly. "Can we buy a liver?"

Hearing this, Bianca choked a bit. "Buying and selling human organs is illegal. You can't buy one."

Carl stopped talking.

"Carl, how about this. Let Frank find a suitable donor first. If he finds one, we can talk about the loan again. At that time, I can lend it to you, how about that?" Dexter looked at Carl and said.

Hearing this, Carl instantly got a bit excited and nodded hurriedly. "Okay!"

Soon, Carl finished his breakfast nimbly, said goodbye to Dexter and Bianca, and ran home quickly.

Running home.

Carl didn't delay and repeated Dexter's words to Frank.

After listening, Frank was naturally excited. Then, smiling, he praised Carl profusely.

In the dining room, Debbie clearly heard Frank's words and instinctively felt incomparably disgusted.

In the living room.

After praising Carl, Frank took a puff of his weed and muttered to himself with a smile, "Next is the problem of getting a liver!"

Beside him, Samantha, who was very happy for Frank, heard this and immediately said apologetically, "Sorry, Daddy, we don't match. Otherwise, I would definitely donate part of my liver to you without hesitation!"

The fact was, Frank was also very disappointed about this, but he didn't say it. "It's okay. If it doesn't match, we can't force it."

Samantha smiled a little. "What about your friends? Can we discuss with them? Maybe there's a match."

"Worst comes to worst, we borrow a bit more money from Dexter and pay your friends for it."

Hearing this.

Debbie couldn't stand it anymore. She walked two quick steps and sneered at Samantha. "Heh, Frank doesn't have friends, only people he hasn't offended yet."

"Fxxk you!!" Hearing this, Frank immediately cursed at Debbie, then turned to Samantha. "Help me to the Alibi later. My friends are all there. If we pay, someone should be willing."

Samantha immediately smiled brilliantly. "Okay."

---

As usual, after dropping Bianca off at the hospital, Dexter didn't go directly to the restaurant but drove to find a travel agency.

Letting Karen go to Los Angeles alone wasn't very appropriate.

The current Karen, compared to the Karen in the original show, had grown up too much.

In other words, Karen was still very useful.

Dexter didn't want Karen to go and never return. So, thinking about it last night, he decided to spend some money to hire a guide to accompany Karen to Los Angeles, accompanying her for the surgery and sightseeing.

The fact was, Dexter's requirement was indeed very strange.

But, this is a capitalist country. Money is a damn good thing. As long as Dexter paid enough, what did it matter if it was strange?

It would still be arranged perfectly.

Spending about an hour discussing the details thoroughly, Dexter didn't waste time. Walking out of the travel agency, he called Karen.

Karen answered the phone immediately.

"Karen..." Dexter didn't delay and explained the situation directly. After finishing, he asked, "Any problems?"

Actually, regarding going to Los Angeles to play alone, Karen was really a bit nervous.

Now, Dexter had very thoughtfully eliminated that nervousness...

Karen immediately agreed with a crisp smile. "No problems at all. Thank you, Mr. Ding, you're so thoughtful."

"You're welcome," Dexter couldn't stand the green tea act (feigned innocence/manipulation) and replied briefly. "Then I'll confirm it one last time and contact you later."

"Okay," Karen responded in her "green tea" manner.

Dexter didn't say more, hung up, and communicated again.

After communicating for about ten minutes, everything was settled.

The travel agency said they would contact the best hospital in Los Angeles immediately to confirm the surgery date.

Once the surgery date was confirmed, the departure date would be the day before.

Dexter paid a deposit, got in the car, and returned to the restaurant.

---

Past 10:00 AM.

Samantha pushed Frank, who was sitting in a wheelchair, tossing and turning under the blazing sun for quite a while before finally successfully pushing Frank into the Alibi Room.

Inside the bar.

A group of old drunkards saw Frank's appearance and his empty right arm at a glance. Instantly, they were all more or less surprised.

"Jesus, Frank, what happened?"

"Where's your right arm?"

"..."

"Without a right hand, how are you going to wipe your ass?" Kermit suddenly asked with a serious face.

"????" Hearing this, Frank glared, pissed off. "Fxxk off! Kermit!"

After viciously retorting to Kermit, Frank didn't waste words. Straining his voice, he loudly stated his purpose. "Old friends, I've run into a big problem."

"My liver is useless. I must replace at least part of it, otherwise, I won't live much longer."

"Friends, can you donate part of a liver to me?"

"I can pay."

Hearing this.

The group of drunkards: "?????"

Hahahaha.

The next second, the Alibi Room erupted in roaring laughter.
