Chapter 26 - A promise

"Hector!"

"I'm here, sir!"

The professor, called Kevin, stared at his notebook for a moment before giving Hector an unfriendly look. He smirked and pointed to the north.

"Based on your class stats, you'll go to the 23rd zone to climb the mountain."

"Remember. Go to the zone we assigned you. If you enter the wrong zone, we'll fail you… Understand?"

Hector frowned, seeing the mocking, disdainful expression on the professor's face.

He took a deep breath, shrugged, and turned to leave. That bastard didn't deserve his respect.

The professor scowled at Hector's rude attitude. He spat and continued arranging the exam zones for the other students.

Before long, he returned to a special space formed by an academy artifact, where professors could observe the candidates.

The professor gave an order to his subordinates.

"Take care of Hector Jenkins. Use any method necessary to remove him from the exam."

The other professors nodded.

"Yes, sir… We'll make sure that student can't even pass the base of the mountain."

***

Hector scowled in irritation as he looked ahead.

This place was filled with hordes of Orcs. He couldn't even count exactly how many there were, but for sure, at least around 300 Orcs stood here.

For some reason, the Orcs didn't notice him, even though he was standing quite close to them.

"Well… I guess the academy did some tricks on them, then used them for exams."

Hector scratched his head and sighed.

"Do I really have to kill all of them just to climb the mountain? This exam isn't even proper for a first-year student."

He clicked his tongue, then glanced at the metallic sphere hanging on a tall tree nearby. The professors were watching everything through that thing.

He knew it. It was a common tool in exams. They had used it to observe MC before, and were completely shocked after witnessing his power.

Tch. He really, really wanted to see the professors' stupid faces after what he was about to do to the Orcs.

However, he had to hide his trump card. He would reveal it in the final exam, where everyone would be watching.

"You think I'll give up? Huh. That's the funniest thing in the world."

Hector scanned the forest and soon found a particular zone where no tracking tool could observe him.

The next moment, he chuckled and let a drop of blood fall.

"I promise I'll thank you guys if I reach four mana cores today."

***

"Let's see if he quits?" a professor chuckled.

"Of course he will. There are 273 Orcs blocking his way. Only fools would rush into that."

"That's right… 273 Orcs… That's a huge number anyone would have to be careful with."

Another professor spoke up.

"Isn't it too much? We gathered most of the Orcs there, while the other students only face around four to six Orcs."

"Meanwhile, to pass this first round, they need to kill at least twenty Orcs."

Kevin, standing to the side, simply grinned.

"Don't worry. All of them—no one can pass my exam."

"Those lowly commoners shouldn't even exist in this place."

Suddenly, a professor spoke with a confused tone. He pointed at the magical screen ahead.

"Look at that. What's going on with the Orcs?"

Kevin slowly frowned. He ordered a professor to adjust the metallic sphere to get a clearer view.

But they only saw the same corners of the area.

"Where are they going?"

"This is strange. We implanted a special spell into their brains. They should be staying at the base of the mountain."

Kevin ground his teeth in annoyance and shouted.

"You! Go there and figure this out!"

"Yes, sir!"

Kevin glanced at another professor and gave another order.

"Reload the spell in the tracking tool. Change the zone and find the Orc horde."

"Sir, I can do it in thirty minutes."

Kevin screamed in anger.

"Do it in fifteen, or I'll demote you!"

"Y-Yes, sir."

Kevin clenched his fist as he stared at the magical screen. He could tell something bad was happening.

And one thing made him even angrier—he was obsessed with perfection. He wouldn't allow anything beyond his control.

"Let me see what you're doing, brat."

Twenty minutes later.

All of the professors just widened their mouths in bewilderment. They could not believe in their own eyes.

A professor gulped.

"Could it be…?"

All the Orc hordes had been slaughtered. There was no sign of life left.

Smashed bodies and mangled limbs were scattered throughout the forest. Blood had soaked the ground, turning the green woods into a sea of red.

The scene was horrifying to anyone who saw it.

Judging from the corpses, they could tell the Orcs had died brutally, as if some terrifying monster had slaughtered them without mercy.

Finally, they found Hector.

He was sitting casually on a rock, waving his hand as if greeting them.

No wounds on his body.

No bloodstains on him.

No sign of exhaustion.

Hector shrugged and flashed a mocking grin at the professors, making everyone in the tracking room frown in irritation.

Kevin trembled with anger, but then took a deep breath and sat back down, forcing himself to calm his overheated mind.

"Check everything there. I'm certain someone helped him."

***

"Who helped you?" a professor asked, glaring at Hector.

"I killed them," Hector replied indifferently.

"You're lying!"

Hector snorted and stepped forward.

"Prove I'm lying. If you can't, then accept the truth."

The professor's face twisted in discomfort. He sounded like he was about to explode after hearing those shameless words.

But he could only sigh. He glanced around, starting to look for anything strange in the area.

Once they found proof to condemn Hector, he would be expelled for cheating in the exam.

Meanwhile, Hector simply smirked and summoned his system screen.
