Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Invited to Go Outside

The morning sun filtered through Amara's curtains, but she barely noticed. Her body felt heavy, her mind clouded by yesterday's memories. Even with her cousins' comfort, the ache lingered. She pulled the blanket tighter, wishing she could hide from the world.

Her phone buzzed softly on the nightstand.

She hesitated before reaching for it, her heart skipping when she saw the name on the screen.

Adrian:Good morning. Don't let yesterday steal today.

Amara sighed, her fingers hovering before she typed back.

Amara:I'm trying… but it's hard.

The reply came quickly.

Adrian:Then let me help. Let's go out today. I'll call some of our cousins — we'll have fun, laugh a little, clear your mind.

Her lips curved into the faintest smile. The thought of being surrounded by familiar faces, not in tension but in joy, eased the heaviness in her chest.

Amara:You really think that will help?

Adrian:I know it will. You don't have to heal alone, Amara. Let us remind you what family feels like.

She stared at the message, warmth spreading through her even in the quiet of her room. For the first time since yesterday, she felt a spark of anticipation.

Amara:Okay… I'll come.

Adrian leaned back in his chair at college, his phone in hand, a small smile tugging at his lips. He had been worried all morning, but now, knowing she had agreed, he felt lighter too.

Adrian:Good. I'll make the calls. Today, you'll smile again.

And across the estate, two hearts carried the same hope — that even after the storm, joy could return.
