Shane was pacing back and forth across the study room, not sitting in the seats. Books were lined up on the shelves along the walls. Sera clenched her fist as she looked at Shane. More than anyone, she wanted Alex not to attend the Academy. She knew the horror and difficulties of studying in Silverine Academy, famous for pushing its students beyond the limit. There were many stories where children lost their light and even went as far as to end their lives due to the sheer difficulty of the academy or due to their inability to keep up with everyone else.
Ragnar entered the study room with Nyra following behind him. Just as he stepped, he saw his son pacing around the room. He sighed, "Son, this is for the betterment of Alex. We can't hide him forever."
Shane stopped abruptly as they appeared, not happy with the answer he already knew, he growled angrily, "Yes Yes Yes, I know it is for him, but don't you see he is still level 1, how would he compete against children who are monsters among monsters there, how would he feel to see the weakest of them being stronger than him, how would he feel to become the bottom of the barrel, how would he move forward when they will dashed through the challenge while he struggles to barely complete it, how would he feel when he sees them using skills and powers that he had never even touched or felt and could only possibly dream of."He was out of breath as he shouted one sentence after another without a break, his lungs screaming for air; he had barely taken a breath at all as he listed all the things his son would have to deal with if he were to join the Academy.
"Calm down, son, your father surely has a reason to do this." Nyra stepped between father and son, not wanting to see them angry at each other. She added, "I don't want to see a strained relationship between you two."
Ragnar stepped forward and said with a voice that held pride, "Indeed, you are right, son, he would have to deal with all of this. He would not be able to compete against those monstrous children; he would crumble seeing the weakest of them being more powerful than him. He would struggle to complete challenges without any skills or powers, as others would clear them with ease. He would break, fall, and feel despair, but I believe he will rise up. Maybe he will be the weakest of the class, but I believe he will be the brightest shining star among them. Among those monsters, he will be a glimmer of hope for the future, and I believe he has every right to explore the world. We can't bind him forever within the confines of a wall; he will one day break away, and the happy relationship we have might turn into bitter anger for keeping him locked. Drakethorne are made to fight and rise, not to stay within the confines of walls."
"Also, he needs to pass the entrance exam to enter the academy. I had made sure that if he fails, he can't enter, unlike other noble families that can send their children even if they don't pass or don't take the entrance test. He had to pass it; otherwise, he would have to return. I will personally train him." Ragnar added, after seeing that Shane had calmed down.
This was the last resort he had kept to avoid sending Alex to the academy, as he had talked this out with the principal of Silverine Academy by himself. He was against it more than ever before, but if his grandson's fate really had something bigger planned for him, then he would not fail this mere entrance exam.
Alex could have been admitted into academy without passing exam or taking part at all as higher nobles, the elites among nobles were allowed to sent their children to academy directly, though most children would rather not take exam due to various reason not due to being unable to pass because if they were such untalented they would mainly be banished to small region or exiled from house for tarnishing name, so untalented barely came out of higher nobles except for few rare cases.
Shane and Sera breathed a sigh of relief that Alex had to take the exam, knowing he would most likely not pass, and they wanted him not to pass; they were selfish for their son's well-being. They felt guilty thinking this way, but it was the only thing that would safeguard their son.
Discussion ended there, Ragnar and Nyra exited the room, leaving Shane and Sera alone, who were praying for their son to fail the exam more than anything else.
