Chapter 12 - Go Back

Nyra Blackheart helped Morgana Chronveil sit in a nearby chair. Morgana was so weak at this point that even while sitting, she was shaking as she bent her legs to sit on a chair.

Onlookers were shocked to see a Paragon rank grand duchess of the Chronveil family being this weak. What in the world has happened to make her this weak and incapable?

Sophia Chronveil, Morgana's daughter, kept holding her mother's hand to reassure her and comfort her. She was sad for her mother being so weak and angry at the same time, and she was angry that, instead of resting, her mother had come to the Drakethorne's heir's naming ceremony program. As a matter of fact, this naming ceremony was just to introduce their child to the world, as all would give their child a name on the day of birth.

Nyra gave Morgana a cup of drinking water to calm herself down. Morgana drank it in slow sips and couldn't drink more than half of the water in the cup.

Shane has returned to normal and has placed his sword, Darkred, back in dimensional space. Sera Azurestorm was still holding her child in her hands with Alex's head resting on her shoulder.

Ragnar and all his veteran friends retreated their aura and kept their weapons in dimensional space while Ragnar kept his sword in his scabbard resting on his waist.

Ragnar Drakethorne approached Morgana Chronveil, who was sitting on a chair. Her purple hair was dishevelled, her breath was ragged, her skin had aged a lot, and her aura was so weak that she was equal to a new sage rank at this point.

"What has happened to you? Did demons attack you or what?" Ragnar asked, not understanding how a paragon rank could fall to this level unless she had fought many monsters or demons. If not, she fought a paragon rank demon that was a higher level than her. Paragon rank is given to level 700, and there is a difference in paragon rank, as level 800 could defeat level 700, depending on the class that they have.

"This has nothing to do with a demon attacking me," Morgana Chronveil said. She looked around and finally saw what she had come for on the terrace.

Ragnar looked at Sophia to ask if she was telling the truth, because if not, a gate that strong to deal with Morgana to this state would have been known by all by now.

Sophia nodded as if to confirm her mother, Morgana Chronveil, was telling the truth.

As Morgana Chronveil saw Alex in Sera Azurestorm's hand, she weakly said to Sera Azurestorm, "Bring your child here. I need to check something."

Sera Azurestorm looked hesitantly at her husband, Shane Drakethorne, her eyes clouded with fear that Morgana might hurt their child. After everything that happened today, anxiety twisted in her chest at the thought of anyone else threatening her child.

She remembered how the emperor got what he wanted and left, leaving everyone powerless. She does not want this to happen again.

Ragnar Drakethorne, looking at his son and daughter-in-law's hesitation, asked Morgana,"Why do you want to see my grandson?"

Morgana, feeling weak, was annoyed that she had come for this child only to be stopped. She wanted to see the child's fate, but something blocked her, so she decided to try by holding his hand, which would let her see more clearly. She couldn't see his fate lines from here, as if something blocked her. She could see Shane and Sera's fate, but not their children's. It was a mystery.

Fate isn't a single line; there are multiple paths, often leading to the same end. One can say his fate is to be a swordsman if many fate lines lead there, though some lines may lead to becoming a magician or other classes. Even if those lines are fewer, one could still become a magician, as fate is mysterious. Still, in most cases, being a swordsman is more likely because more fate lines lead there. That's how fate works: not just yes or no, but many paths to varied outcomes, with some outcomes more common than others.

"I can't see your grandson's fate lines... cough... from here. So I need to... cough... check by holding his hands," Morgana Chronveil replied weakly, coughing as she spoke.

Ragnar Drakethorne and Nyra Blackheart were shocked to find that Morgana could not see fate lines, as she is well known for being able to see the fate of others by just looking at them.

Ragnar glanced at Morgana to check for deceit, but saw none. He turned to his son and daughter-in-law and asked them to come down with their child.

There was hesitation, especially in Sera Azurestorm's eyes, as she didn't want to feel the same helplessness that she had felt before.

Shane brought his hand close to Sera's and gently laced his fingers with hers. He saw that Sera looked worried and reassured her with a firm nod that nothing would go wrong this time; he would step in if needed.

The couple descended from the terrace through the stairs and reached near where Morgana Chronveil was sitting.

Morgana Chronveil said, "Let me hold his hand."

Sera bent her knees and made her son face Morgana's face. Alex was disturbed this time and opened his azure eyes to look at Morgana. He was new to this face. His eyes started tracing the Morgana from head to toe.

Morgana reached out and gently held Alex's hands. She closed her eyes, and a magic circle formed around them. Unlike a shield, this circle merely wraps around Morgana and Alex, causing Alex to fall asleep.

Morgana's consciousness sank into darkness; she saw nothing—no boundaries, no walls—just endless blackness that had to end. This was new for Morgana. After using this spell, she would usually see fate lines, not just the few lines that she used to see from far away without holding their hands, but many more; still, some would be hidden, but most became visible. Morgana did not know where these fate lines came from or in which space they appeared to her.

Here, this wasn't the case; she couldn't see any lines. Either something is blocking her, or his fate is not determined, meaning he is not bound by anything. Morgana shuddered at this realisation, as whichever was right, it all led to the mystery of this child.

As Morgana was about to step, she suddenly found herself unable to move.

[!System has woken temporarily from its slumber]

[!Someone is trying to see the host's fate.]

[!System is stopping the person from seeing the host's fate]

[!System is taking drastic measures. The system is sealing the host's fate from outsiders.]

[!No one will be able to see the host's fate]

[!Removing the outsider from seeing the fate]

[!System had to bear the consequences by itself]

[!System is going to slumber]

[!System's slumber duration has increased by 3 years]

[!System is going to wake up after 18 years]

Morgana felt crushing pressure that forced her to her knees. She clutched her chest, gasping, as a suffocating, unseen force stronger than any person she had met pressed down on her. She coughed blood, her breath ragged, saliva dripping from her mouth.

A loud, mysterious voice rang out, "Go back."

Morgana lost consciousness and suddenly snapped back to awareness, finding herself in her seat, drenched in sweat, her body shuddering. She realised her hand was clutching Alex's and quickly withdrew it. The mysterious voice echoed in her ears, urging, "Go back."

She trembled violently, the two words—Go back—echoing inside her skull, relentless as a nightmare. Fear twisted her face, her body wracked by uncontrollable shudders as the memory of the voice haunted her.

Alex had started crying at this point, so Sera quickly picked him up and carried him to his private chambers to let him rest. This time, no matter who appeared, she was determined not to bring her child out.

Shane Drakethorne, Ragnar Thorne, and Nyra Blackheart, all the paragon rank warriors, were shocked that a paragon rank person like Morgana Chronveil had been reduced to this state. She was weak before, but now she is shaking even more violently and is unable to speak coherently.

The hall was silent as people wondered what Morgana had seen to leave her so shaken. She was known to fear no one, not even the Emperor, yet now she seemed so meek.

"Tch, this shit keeps getting shittier." Malrec Veilcaster shook his head. Standing at the side of the banquet was shocked beyond words by the events that had unfolded at this banquet just tonight.

Malrec turned toward the banquet entrance to see if someone would appear again.
