Chapter 28 - Storytelling

"Little sister! Little sister, are you alright?!" Bosacius was sprinting towards Bonanus and Xiao at his fastest speed.

The fact that he had left the Geo Archon he served right behind him showed just how frantic he was.

If it were Menogias who had rolled down the hill, Bosacius wouldn't have cared at all. He'd probably hold his stomach, laughing at him.

He might even take notes to mock him about it every single day. After all, that guy was sturdy! Not as tough as himself, but certainly able to take a fall.

But if it were his little sister Bonanus or Indarias who rolled down, that was a different story. In his heart, these two younger sisters always seemed so fragile.

Indarias: I can fight just fine!

Menogias: I **** you ***!

"Big brother, I'm fine @_@...." Bonanus rubbed her head and slowly sat up. After all, lying on the ground forever wasn't an option.

"Let big brother take a look!"

Bosacius anxiously grabbed Bonanus's shoulders. His motions checking for injuries were exactly the same as when he had taken that blow from the demon god earlier.

Basically, he looked her over everywhere, as if Bonanus were a piece of exquisite gold, and Bosacius was terrified of finding the slightest scratch on this precious treasure.

"I'm really not hurt, Brother Bosacius! Brother, stop touching, it tickles!" Bonanus gently pushed Bosacius's hands away with a smile. Honestly, this level of concern was making her a bit uncomfortable.

Could it be that Bonanus is the pampered one among the Five Foremost Yakshas? But thinking about it, it made sense. Compared to Sister Indarias, Bonanus did look quite delicate, giving off a feeling she might break at a touch.

"Good, just some scrapes. Didn't hit your head." Bosacius wiped the cold sweat from his brow and let out a soft sigh of relief.

In his mind, no matter how capable his little sister was, she was still delicate. And sometimes, she wasn't the sharpest to begin with. It wouldn't do if she damaged her brain.

Bonanus: ??????

"I feel like Big Brother is insulting me, but I don't have proof yet...."

Bonanus rubbed her head in exasperation. Big brother's emotional intelligence really is low! Saying things like that, he'll probably never find a wife!

"Haha, when we get to Liyue Harbor, I'll go find some ointment for your scrapes."

As he said this, Bosacius clenched his fists, looking full of drive.

"That's not necessary. We Yaksha heal quickly on our own. We don't need ordinary medicine."

Bonanus waved a hand dismissively. In the game, when Xiao was injured, he usually just sat down to meditate and recovered shortly after.

Therefore, she believed she was the same.

"Oh, right." Bosacius nodded slightly. He'd been too worried and forgotten about that.

"But I have another question, little sister. Are you under some kind of curse? Or something else? The old you wasn't this careless."

Bosacius gently rubbed Bonanus's head, his eyes filled with puzzled confusion and a desire to know the answer.

"I'm also curious. In my memory, Sister Bonanus was always much more reliable and meticulous than even Indarias or Bosacius. Why were you so careless just now?"

Xiao also asked with a slight frown. Bonanus's careless reaction was truly suspicious. Every time he thought of this, he remembered that deity who had helped her.

Hearing these questions, Bonanus's face fell. Could she choose not to answer?

After all, she'd given the same answer several times already. Why did these people keep fixating on one thing?

But looking at their serious expressions, it seemed they wouldn't let it go without an answer.

"Alright, I'll tell you the truth...." Bonanus let out a deep sigh. Sometimes, having two people who care about you too much isn't entirely a good thing.

Just as Bonanus finished speaking, Zhongli, who wasn't far away, walked up behind the group. He crossed his arms and listened quietly.

Peeping old man....

"But what I'm about to say might sound a bit absurd. Will you believe me?" Bonanus's large, watery eyes looked straight at the two of them, appearing utterly adorable.

"Of course! As your big brother, how could I not believe you?"

Bosacius patted his massive pectoral muscles. He'd said before he would believe anything his little sister said.

Because he firmly believed she wouldn't lie to him. In his memory, Bonanus wasn't that kind of person, and she also wasn't very good at lying.

"I don't easily trust people. But if it's Sister Bonanus, I believe everything you say is true."

Xiao also nodded. His past feelings for Sister Bonanus made him pay close attention to her, so he knew his elder sister wasn't skilled at deception.

When Sister Bonanus used to lie, she would get extremely nervous, and her body language was very expressive.

She'd fidget with her hands behind her back, constantly touch her face, look around everywhere, bite her lip tightly, and even break out in a cold sweat.

In short, whenever Bonanus tried to lie, she would be found out because there were too many tells.

And given Bonanus's gentle, simple nature, such a thing was generally unlikely to happen.

Put it this way! In the past, apart from war and slaughter, Bonanus's personality had always been one of gentleness, kindness, and simplicity.

Many in the Yaksha clan were warlike, but Bonanus was an exception.

She possessed healing powers, which was extremely uncommon among the Yaksha. Combined with her gentleness, many clansmen had expressed their affection for her back then.

This had annoyed Xiao greatly at the time. Everyone wanted to steal his sister! It was utterly disgusting!

Back to the topic.

"Okay, listen carefully..."

The original Bonanus might not have been able to lie, but that didn't mean the current her couldn't! Give me a break, making up a story is as easy as breathing!

After all, in Teyvat, anything is possible. This world even has travelers from other worlds arriving. What couldn't happen?

"The deity who saved me... she had no name. But she once mused to herself that she came from another world."

"At a glance, she sometimes appeared as a white-haired elder, sometimes as a graceful maiden, sometimes as a young child. But when I tried to focus, I couldn't see her clearly at all...."

"Her face seemed shrouded in mist. I truly wished to know what kind of deity she was."

Bonanus's breathing became slightly hurried. She didn't even know what she was saying. Honestly, she felt she had quite a talent for storytelling.

"She also once said this: 'The myriad faces of mine that exist, intangible, within this mortal realm, are all born from my flesh and blood.'"

"'I cannot claim to be some noble god. Yet all living faces upon this land are molded by my hand. I shall remain here forever, until the throne in the heavens above is overthrown...'"

Bonanus: That's right, this person is the Mother of the World!

"After being saved by that deity, she bestowed a certain ability upon me..."

"When granting this ability, she told me."

"'You can extract Karmic Debt, but you will not fall into madness because of it. The corresponding price is... you will grow weak, and lose many memories, including emotions...'"

"'And you might even become a fool, a fool who cannot care for herself... There is a way to prevent it, but it remains unknown for now.'"

As Bonanus said this, she lowered her head first, but then her gaze grew firm.

If she didn't know she had a system and that 'Water-Moon Ring,' even she would almost believe the story she was spinning.

But to the others, this expression looked like: For your sakes, I am willing to bear this price. Even if it means becoming a fool, I won't hesitate.

"Little sister..." Bosacius gritted his teeth. He couldn't believe she was only telling him now.

"It's such a serious matter? Why tell me only now?"

Bonanus: Because I only just made up the story!

Bosacius's expression showed clear anger. This ability might be good, but he didn't want his little sister facing such a "curse"!

"Sister Bonanus, I won't let anything happen to you!" Xiao's eyes were clearly off, as if he was holding something back.

Seeing their angry expressions, Bonanus seemed to realize her story might have been a bit over the top.

"You have to understand, I was at death's door back then. That deity said this was the only way for me to survive."

Bonanus hurriedly spoke up. Why did these two look like they wanted to eat someone?

"This matter requires further deliberation. There is no need for you two to be so agitated."

Just as the situation was getting awkward, Old Man Zhongli stepped forward and addressed the group calmly.

"I will handle everything. For now, you shall accompany me to Liyue Harbor."

After saying this, Zhongli also let out a gentle sigh. Overthrow the throne in the heavens above... Hah... Interesting.
