Zarek pushed himself up on one elbow, looking down at her.
"You have to grow up, Eliora."
The words were so blunt, she gasped.
"You cannot continue being careless when you know the kind of man you are bonded to."
That did it.
She sat up too, anger flashing across her face.
"I am human," she shot back sharply. "Do you hear yourself? I am human."
She beat her chest twice. "Never in my life did I think I would end up bonded to a beast. Talk less of the king himself."
For a split second, something wounded flashed in his eyes but it disappeared just as quickly.
"I did not choose what I am," he murmured.
"And I did not choose to wake up one day and be thrown into this," she fired back.
Silence crackled between them.
Zarek's eyes darkened slightly. "We cannot keep arguing about my reactions when another man touches you."
Eliora blinked.
"What does that have to do with this?"
