"What boy?" Daphne asked.
She took off her hat and placed it on a small wooden stool beside the mattress.
Zarek didn't answer immediately. Instead, he just stared at her.
The firelight reflected on his face, casting shadows along his jaw. His eyes were darker now, the faint red glow beneath them threatening to surface.
""The one who touched you."
Her heart skipped. For a second, she didn't know whether to be shocked… or annoyed.
"Oh," she said slowly. "You mean Samson?"
The name rolling off her lips did absolutely nothing to help his mood.
"So you remember his name."
Eliora frowned. "Of course I remember his name. He brought my food earlier."
Zarek took a step closer. "And now he is catching you in the dark."
Her irritation rose slightly. "I didn't ask him to catch me," she said. "I tripped."
"You let him hold you."
"I was falling."
His eyes flashed faintly red.
"He held your waist."
Eliora exhaled sharply, her patience thinning.
