After washing them, he moved to a flat rock nearby and sat down.
With a small flick of his fingers, fire came alive in front of him.
He skewered the squirrels and began roasting them over the flames.
Only then did he glance up. Eliora was already looking at him. He held her gaze for half a second, then looked away again, turning the meat over the fire like nothing else mattered.
He was still mad.
Eliora rolled her eyes dramatically and looked away too.
Maelina saw the entire exchange and laughed under her breath.
"Oh this is entertaining," she murmured.
Eliora hugged herself tighter, pretending she didn't hear.
A moment passed.
Then Zarek spoke without looking at her. "Come here."
She blinked.
He still didn't look up. "I said come here."
She exhaled through her nose, already annoyed but she had no choice.
She walked over slowly and stopped near the fire. The warmth hit her instantly.
"Sit," he said.
