Chapter 22 - Chapter 22- You're not him

A muffled voice echoed through Light's ears.

His eyes slowly opened.

Sunlight seeped through his eyelids.

It hurt.

And then-

SPLASH!

Water hit his face.

"AGH! What the fuck?! I'm awake!"

Light immediately spat out the water, coughing.

"You okay?"

A familiar voice.

Light slowly turned his head.

And saw...

Im-jang-do. Also called as Jamie, Light's only real friend.

"Huh?!"

"Jamie?!"

His hands immediately grabbed Jamie by the shoulders.

"What are you doing here?!"

"Did you see him?!"

"My fathe--"

He stopped.

The words caught in his throat.

Jamie stared at him, confused.

"Huh? Who are you talking about?"

"And what the fuck happened here?!"

Jamie looked around the church.

His expression changed.

"It's all so gory…"

Light shook his shoulders vigorously.

"You didn't see a man in black here?!"

"Tell me!"

"No! No!"

Jamie shouted back.

"I didn't see anyone!"

He looked around again.

"Wait…"

His eyes fell on the bodies scattered across the church floor.

"Did he do all this?"

Jamie pointed toward the destruction.

Light's grip loosened.

"Yes…"

His voice trembled.

"And…"

He lowered his head.

"I couldn't stop him…"

His fists clenched.

"If only I could…"

For the third time that very day-

tears began streaming down Light's face.

SLAP!

"Stop whining!"

Jamie grabbed Light by the arm.

"Let's go to the cops!"

Before Light could even process what had happened, Jamie was already dragging him out of the church.

Hours later.

Light sat inside the very police station he ran away from, exhausted.

Questions.

Answers.

More questions.

More answers.

Chief Han Ji-hoon sat across from him, listening carefully as Light explained what had happened.

After further investigation, the police officially opened the case under the name-

Daniel.

At least, according to Light's testimony.

Sophia and Bosvel had no choice but to acknowledge the possibility that someone had been impersonating Daniel, despite knowing that Daniel had been dead for years.

Fortunately, street CCTV footage from around the area confirmed Light's claims.

He was not considered a suspect.

Eventually, he was released.

That same evening.

At Light's residence.

Light climbed the stairs without saying a word.

He entered his room.

Locked the door.

And sat on the edge of his bed with a soft bounce.

His hair and clothes were still completely messed up from the rain and the fight.

He slowly leaned backward, placing both hands against the mattress.

His head tilted upward.

He stared at the ceiling.

"Make me suffer, huh…"

His eyes narrowed.

"Does he know me…?"

Knock. Knock.

Light sighed.

He reluctantly got up and opened the door.

"Bose?"

For a moment, Light's eyes dropped toward the floor.

As if he was too ashamed to even look Bosvel in the eye.

"Sit down."

Light obeyed.

Bosvel sat beside him on the bed.

"We need to talk."

Light immediately turned toward him.

"Bose! I'm sure that wasn't Dad!"

"He's definitely a fak-"

"Not about that."

Bosvel interrupted him.

"I understand what happened."

His voice remained calm.

"What I want to talk about is you, young master."

Light went quiet.

Bosvel looked directly at him.

"You're imitating your father, aren't you?"

Light's eyes widened.

"I get why you'd do that."

"I know it's been hard…"

"Not being able to talk."

"And then losing your father."

Bosvel's gaze deepened.

"But…"

"Daniel wasn't great because he was kind, cheerful, or any of that shit."

"He was great because he was himself."

Light stared at him.

What is he saying…?

Is it wrong that I want to be like my dad?

Bosvel's voice softened.

"I want you to find yourself."

Silence.

Light looked away.

"Whatever…"

"My head's spinning from all that mess back there…"

He rubbed his forehead.

"And…"

His voice became quieter.

"Bose…"

"I'm sorry."

"I shouldn't have spoken to you like that."

Bosvel smiled slightly.

"It's okay."

Light looked at him.

Then his expression suddenly relaxed.

"But you sure do pack a punch, Bose!"

He playfully jabbed Bosvel's shoulder.

Bosvel let out a small laugh.

"Anyway…"

Light's smile faded.

"You can just call me Light from now on."

His tone changed.

His eyes hardened.

"But…"

"I'm gonna hunt that bastard down myself."
