Chapter 108 - [108] The Untouchable Red Line

"It is nothing more than a fruit; its value lies in being consumed by people."

Ross placed the Brain-Brain Fruit in Sora's hand.

As he said, the Brain-Brain Fruit was useless to him; it had to be given to someone he trusted.

Rather than giving it to other uncertain people, it was better to give it to Sora.

Even after eating the Brain-Brain Fruit, Sora's scientific talent would only be at the level of Judge, which was enough for Ross.

"I see."

Meeting Ross's encouraging gaze, Sora felt a warmth flow through her heart.

She hadn't felt this kind of trust in so many years; she could hardly remember it anymore.

Regardless, she didn't want to betray that trust.

Sora lifted the Brain-Brain Fruit and took a big bite.

With just one bite, Sora's face showed a pained expression.

But she also knew about Devil Fruits and knew that this was what they tasted like.

In order not to waste the fruit, Sora endured the discomfort and ate the entire Brain-Brain Fruit.

Less than a minute after eating, Sora's originally bright eyes suddenly became lifeless.

"What's going on?" Gion frowned slightly.

Although Gion had eaten a Devil Fruit before and seen Ross consume one, she had never seen Sora in this state.

"After eating a Devil Fruit, there will be various different reactions in the short term, depending on the fruit's ability. The Brain-Brain Fruit is related to the mental aspect, so Sora is probably adapting to the fruit's ability," Ross explained. He understood this quite well.

This state lasted for nearly 10 minutes before Sora snapped out of her dazed state.

The moment she regained consciousness, Sora hugged Ross tightly with overwhelming emotion:

"Your Highness, I succeeded!"

"Congratulations."

Ross smiled and hugged Sora back, gently stroking her back.

Although both he and Sora knew that there was no danger in eating a Devil Fruit and that there was no question of success or failure, since Sora was in the mood, he decided to go with the flow.

Sora was excited for a while before releasing Ross and excitedly introducing her abilities:

"The Brain-Brain Fruit grants me photographic memory and allows me to store all the knowledge I've ever seen in my brain, with zero-latency retrieval. Furthermore, it puts me into a supercomputing state."

"In this state, my thinking speed increases by 100 times. However, this state requires a lot of physical strength, and I can only maintain it for a maximum of 10 seconds now."

Sora wasn't too satisfied with the duration.

Although an inspiration may only last for a moment, 10 seconds of supercomputing time was still too short.

"In that case, you don't need to rush to memorize information. Starting today, you can work with Gion to improve your physical strength. She will arrange resources and training plans for you."

Ross replied without hesitation. Given Sora's current abilities, it would be more valuable for her to build a solid foundation than to pursue scientific research right now.

"By the way, the Brain-Brain Fruit can also be used in training. Gion, give Sora all the family's information on training strong individuals and see if she can improve it."

"Understood."

Gion readily agreed, but she didn't think Sora could improve it in any way.

Improving physical fitness boiled down to two things: diet and exercise.

After so many years of research, the World Government had long known which Sea Kings' flesh was the most nourishing and could be absorbed by the body the fastest.

There weren't too many rules about training. With her level of expertise in individualized training, she could tell at a glance how much was appropriate.

However, Gion didn't think technology was useless. She just felt that this kind of mental work shouldn't be used on such simple things, but rather on things like the bloodline factors that Ross and Sora had just mentioned.

That thing sounded very advanced, and if you explained it in more detail, she wouldn't understand it. It seemed like something only someone who used their brain could figure out.

"Oh, right, there's one more thing."

Ross looked at Sora and asked:

"The Brain-Brain Fruit should be able to add or remove memories on its own, right?"

He recalled Vegapunk's future appearance, with a brain dozens of times larger than a human's, bordering on grotesque and terrifying. He didn't want Sora to become a giant-headed doll as well.

"Yes, after consuming the Brain-Brain Fruit, I can access and edit all the memories in my mind. Moreover, given time, I can rewrite them."

Sora pursed her lips and said she was very resistant to rewriting memories, but if it was for Ross, she would still be willing to do it.

"Don't research this too much; it's best not to even touch it. Scientific research may touch on many bottom lines, but there are some bottom lines that should never be crossed."

Ross's expression flickered, but he quickly regained his composure and gave Sora a stern warning.

The idea of rewriting memories sounded incredibly appealing.

But this kind of thing was like Pandora's box; once you touched it, there was no going back.

Once you changed the first person, you would change countless others.

If you altered the enemy's memory, you would then alter the memories of your subordinates, and even the memories of those around you.

If this continued, even if no one betrayed or overthrew him, everyone else would be no different from robots.

By then, Ross wasn't sure if he would go insane or slowly lose his humanity.

If all the surprises and unexpected events in this world disappeared, and he was no longer himself, then what would be the point of immortality?

Therefore, Ross always had a few red lines in his mind, and no matter how evil he became, he would never cross those lines.

"I see."

Sora nodded emphatically, a light smile on her pretty face.

Ross did not disappoint her; he was indeed very different from Judge.

"Let's go back to what we were talking about before. Based on my understanding of the Brain-Brain Fruit, storing too many memories can cause the brain to grow larger."

Ross didn't finish his sentence, but Gion and Sora could both imagine the consequences.

Some people might abandon all humanity for power, but both Sora and Gion hoped that while enhancing their abilities, their figures and appearances could also improve, rather than worsen.

The thought of a head getting bigger was chilling.

"These side effects are terrifying."

Gion glanced at Sora instinctively, imagining what it would look like if Sora's head grew bigger. It wouldn't look good no matter how she thought about it.

Sora, on the other hand, suddenly stared into space with vacant eyes, as if she had entered a supercomputing state.

However, this state lasted only a second before Sora voluntarily withdrew.

She shook her head slightly, somewhat puzzled, and said:

"That shouldn't be the case. According to my calculations just now, even if all of Judge's knowledge and experimental records were memorized, it wouldn't take up even one ten-thousandth of my brain, not even including the repetitive parts."

"If you calculate it this way, the amount of knowledge that would fill the entire brain would be enormous, and you would have to expand the capacity to solve the problem. It would probably be like putting all the knowledge in the world into it."
