Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: People Who Took the Wrong Path

The Olsen Sisters aren't very well-known in China; in fact, people who don't follow the fashion industry probably haven't even heard of them.

However, their younger sister, who is a few years younger than the twins, is much more familiar in China. She is Elizabeth Olsen, Marvel's Scarlet Witch, and the fantasy goddess for many.

The Olsen Sisters entered the entertainment industry at a very young age. You could say they were America's daughters, watched as they grew up, especially during their childhood, where they influenced the aesthetic tastes of a generation of young girls.

With the help of her two older sisters, their youngest sister, Elizabeth, also entered the entertainment industry. She is currently making appearances on various TV shows, though her fame is certainly not as great as her two sisters.

Relying on their childhood influence, their agent specifically established Dual Star Entertainment for the Olsen Sisters, managing all sorts of merchandise related to the two sisters. In earlier years, it was quite successful.

The net worth of the two underage girls once exceeded 100 million, making them the envy of countless young people.

However, the Olsen Sisters' influence primarily covered girls under ten. As the two sisters grew older, their fans also slowly matured.

When fans grow up and become more aware, it naturally becomes harder to exploit them, so Dual Star Entertainment's performance has clearly started to decline in the past two years.

Anxious, the Olsen Sisters wanted to break through on the big screen, hoping to change their image and expand their influence to the adolescent demographic.

Unfortunately, it's still the same old story: those who come from the small screen ultimately can't make it on the big screen, with the exception of George Clooney.

The two sisters either appeared in small supporting roles, like a cameo in "Charlie's Angels," or continued to work in TV movies, such as "Holiday in the Sun" and "Getting There," unable to even reach the big screen.

Their career development could no longer be described as hitting a bottleneck; it was a severe decline. Eric thought of Shi Xiaolong and Hao Shaowen when he saw them.

Countless child stars are like this: brilliant in childhood, but ordinary as adults.

This time, the two sisters again had a script custom-written for them by a screenwriter, titled "new york minute," hoping for another shot.

Moreover, they wanted to make the scenes grander and more refined, budgeting a production investment of 40 million US dollars.

After the script was completed, the two sisters began lobbying various companies everywhere, hoping to secure investment.

Unfortunately, they severely overestimated the quality of this script. After reviewing it, over a dozen companies generally showed little interest.

A few days ago, the two sisters flew to New York, planning to persuade Warner Bros. and Disney to invest. After arriving in New York, they naturally stayed at their aunt's house.

They accidentally heard about their aunt's relationship with Eric and then set their sights on him, the new rising star at MGM.

In the room, the three women—aunt and nieces—watched Eric, hoping to discern something from his expression.

Unfortunately, Eric simply looked at the script in his hand with a blank expression, the dozens of pages flipping quickly through his fingers.

After only a brief look, with only half the script read, it was casually tossed onto the table.

Mediocre, utterly uninspired, with unoriginal conflicts and stereotypical characters—the kind that would be forgotten in a warehouse for decades.

Eric racked his brain, but he had no memory of the film "new york minute." He had at least seen some of the Olsen Sisters' TV movies.

So, there was only one outcome: it flopped silently, without even making a ripple.

This kind of garbage dares to ask for 40 million in investment? This isn't just wishful thinking; it's insane, worse than even Ryan Reynolds's "van wilder."

No wonder the Olsen Sisters have achieved nothing in film; their judgment speaks for itself.

Seeing Eric's action of tossing the script, the three women—aunt and nieces—immediately felt their hearts sink, sensing trouble.

Elena cautiously asked, "Eric, is the script not very good?"

Sighing, Eric tactfully said, "The plot is a bit too cliché. Hollywood makes dozens of these kinds of movies every year, but how many have you seen become hits?"

"But Ashley and Mary—"

"No, no, no, Elena, you don't understand. The core of a film is always the story. Actors are a bonus, but not a necessity. Otherwise, wouldn't Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron make ten movies a year?"

"The script for 'new york minute' lacks polish. I suggest you find a different screenwriter."

The Olsen Sisters exchanged glances. Eric's conclusion was similar to what other companies had said, but given their aunt's connection, they still didn't want to give up.

Mary Olsen blinked her beautiful big eyes and began to flirt, "Eric, we will take your advice. We will find a screenwriter to rewrite the script."

"So, once the script is revised, would MGM be willing to invest? Actually, Dual Star Entertainment can also contribute a portion of the 40 million US dollars. We can go fifty-fifty."

After her sister finished speaking, Ashley Olsen walked over and sat down, her eyes also beginning to flirt.

Seeing that they were still daydreaming, Eric was a bit speechless. Even if the two of you slept with me, it wouldn't be worth 20 million US dollars! They really think they're made of gold!

He decided to be direct: "Mary, you haven't understood my meaning. To put it bluntly, this script is a piece of trash."

"Forget about the two of you starring in it; even if Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor were to star, it would be useless. You can't dig gold out of mud."

the room fell silent. The words were harsh, and the Olsen Sisters were incredibly embarrassed.

Recalling their recent string of setbacks and their career struggles over the years, the two 17-year-old girls couldn't help but feel a surge of sadness, lowering their heads and saying nothing more.

Seeing her nieces' dejected expressions, Elena was a little angry: "Eric, you've gone too far!"

"The truth hurts. I hope you don't mind." Eric sighed.

"Is there no remedy? You are the captain of MGM, wielding immense power. Please help these two children, otherwise, they will have no choice but to leave the entertainment industry."

Eric was already preparing to leave.

"Elena, emotional blackmail doesn't work on me. You know I'm not that kind of person, and I have to be responsible for the entire MGM. Unless there's a profit to be made, I can't just throw money away."

"Then go find the profit! They are the Olsen Sisters, children that the entire nation watched grow up. You can always find their shining points, can't you, Eric?"

As she spoke, Elena tightly grasped Eric's hand: "You always manage to create opportunities and seize them. That's already been proven. I think it will be the same with these two children, as long as you're willing to put in some effort."

Eric pulled his hand free from Elena's grasp and brought his raised leg back down.

He carefully scrutinized the two sisters in front of him, suddenly feeling that Elena had a point.

"new york minute" was undoubtedly trash, but the Olsen Sisters weren't. He could definitely use them to his advantage.

These two sisters still had good foundations; they were just on the wrong path, and the kind who wouldn't turn back even after hitting a wall.
