Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: Unknown X Monster

Begel, accompanied by White Tree, gazed at the gruesome scene before them.

"White Tree, what do you think?" Begel asked.

The man beside him, called White Tree, frowned tightly, staring intently at the scene before his eyes, his gaze darting around as he seemed to be carefully observing every detail.

Kevin and the other two stood a little further away, watching them.

Kevin knew the man named White Tree; he was a member of Begel's team and one of the only two Nen Users in the team besides Begel.

"Without a doubt, this was the work of an unknown beast.

It was powerful, agile, and its size...

It's hard to judge right now... maybe 6 meters?

No, this monster has a very long tail.

Hmm, 8 meters, that's right, its body length should be around 8 meters."

White Tree said, reaching this conclusion based on the clear traces left at the scene.

"That detailed?" Kevin, who was listening quietly behind them, couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

Under the gaze of the three, White Tree and Begel walked towards the area that looked like a pile of corpses.

Their expressions remained serious; they didn't seem affected by the gruesome scene but were earnestly searching among the body fragments and traces for more information.

"Four claws... The hooked digits on the front paws are distributed three in front and one in back, like chicken feet. The hooked claws are a full 0.6 meters long and powerful enough to easily tear human bodies apart." As he spoke, White Tree searched through some footprints that showed clearer pressure marks.

"The back paws are different, similar to soles, and very powerful."

The two continued searching for more clues while examining the traces and exchanging ideas amidst the surrounding mist.

Not long after, they returned to Kevin and the other two.

"These people don't seem like ordinary poachers; they look more like personnel who came here for some kind of research. Those wearing military uniforms should have been responsible for protection.

But they had no obvious markings on them, clearly trying to hide something. These sneaky guys are really annoying." Begel said with a frown, his face full of irritation.

He had seen too many people like this; even if they weren't direct poachers, they were probably involved with them.

At this point, White Tree spoke: "They were attacked by a monster, massive in size, with a pair of exaggerated wings, resembling a dragon in appearance.

Moreover, this monster is extremely brutal and highly aggressive. Ordinary rifle bullets pose no fatal threat to it."

As he spoke, White Tree handed some biological fragments he had picked up to Kevin.

After all, Kevin had been at the research base for nearly a month and had become quite familiar with them.

White Tree, as someone who understood Nen Ability, roughly speculated that Kevin might have his own insights into these biological materials.

Kevin didn't refuse and directly accepted the materials.

They were a clump of soil stained with blood, a leaf with blood drops on it, and several broken scales.

Kevin reached out and touched these materials.

Without a doubt, the feeling of craving appeared.

The craving brought by the blood wasn't strong, barely reaching C-grade.

Which is the lowest level of craving.

As for the scales, they hardly caused him to feel any craving.

Just a bit of blood could trigger a craving? Kevin pondered this and asked, "How big is this monster?"

"Its body length is about 8 meters, but the tail accounts for almost half of that length. Its weight is about 3.2 tons, and its wingspan is 12 meters." Based on the traces obtained at the scene, White Tree had almost completely deduced the monster's size.

This should be his Nen Ability, right? Kevin guessed it might be an ability to track targets based on traces or something similar.

This Nen Ability certainly isn't considered powerful, but not everyone has great talent.

Thinking of this, Kevin quickly pulled his thoughts back.

Such a massive monster, its blood... Kevin almost didn't dare to think about it in detail.

Although the craving brought by this bit of blood was very weak, it's important to know that such a huge monster has a considerable amount of blood in its body.

Not to mention the other materials on its body. Although the scales covering its body didn't meet the standard for C-grade materials, this didn't affect the overall situation.

Kevin hadn't been idle during this past month.

Through researching various creatures, he gained a deeper understanding of his Nen Ability, especially regarding the extremely important aspect of [Materials].

Generally speaking, the part of a creature that can cause him to feel craving is often where its essence lies.

The so-called essence could be bones, internal organs, blood, or other special parts of its body.

Just like the Ironclad Turtle, only its shell could be used as material, and the parts that could cause Kevin to feel craving were only the hexagonal sections at the very top and sides of the shell.

So far, among the biological materials Kevin had come into contact with, only the [Shadow Larva] could be used as medicinal material in its entirety.

This was because the [Shadow Larva] was extremely small in size and relatively simple in structure.

Following this line of thought to speculate about this monster, if even its blood could produce a weak craving, then its essence would certainly not disappoint Kevin.

It should at least meet the B-grade standard, right?

Perhaps there would also be other valuable materials, such as bones or certain internal organs from the essence.

These materials should at least be C-grade.

Considering the monster's massive size, if he could successfully obtain the materials, Kevin might be able to gain a considerable harvest.

But this also indirectly reflected the danger of this monster.

Thinking of this, Kevin spoke frankly: "This monster is very strong. With my current strength, I'm definitely not its opponent.

If I don't handle it carefully, or even if I don't prepare to escape from the start, I could very likely lose my life."

He reached this conclusion.

In fact, there are significant differences in strength among individual creatures that can produce materials.

For creatures corresponding to C-grade materials, as long as one is fully prepared, brings enough manpower, and is equipped with firearms and other thermal weapons, dealing with them is generally not a problem.

Just like Kevin now, if several people were pointing thermal weapons at him, he wouldn't choose a head-on confrontation but would first evade and then look for opportunities to gain an advantage from other aspects.

But if it's a creature with B-grade materials, the situation is completely different.

According to Kevin's estimation method, the Nen reserves of such creatures are at least tens of thousands of points.

Applied to a creature's body, especially a monster of such immense size, it means it possesses incredibly strong physique.

Although Kevin really wanted to track and hunt this creature, with his current strength, it would be better not to provoke it easily.

Moreover, the gruesome scene before them looked strange no matter how you looked at it.

Hearing Kevin's words, Begel frowned, nodded slightly, and advised, "You'd best not investigate on your own. There's definitely something wrong with this massacre.

These people who were massacred must have some connection to that monster; they clearly came prepared... However, since this monster killed people, it seems the research will have to be temporarily halted. This area must be more strictly sealed off."

Begel muttered his thoughts to himself.

After all, any monster that has killed humans will realize how weak humans are. Compared to other beasts, humans are more likely to become their prey, especially for a monster that looks so incredibly powerful.
