Outside, the sky hung heavy and overcast, clouds pressed low against the horizon as if the world itself were bracing for something it could not stop.
Aurelia paused at the threshold of the council hall, breathing in the cool air. The stone beneath her feet felt different now—less solid, less certain. Or perhaps it was she who had changed, and the world simply hadn't caught up yet.
The power within her had settled.
Not retreating.
Not overwhelming.
Just a present.
Steady.
Watchful.
Loyal.
She pressed her fingers once more against the cracked seal on her wrist. It was still there, still etched into her skin like a brand—but it no longer felt like a cage. More like a warning that had lost its authority.
