Chapter 25 - Why is it so slow?

Negut was guided by Naomi to the processing area, then received a card.

The guide smiled and said, "This is the access card for the teleport gate. Please keep it safe and don't lose it, otherwise, you will lose the chance to participate in this 'newbie trial'."

Negut nodded lightly, then walked toward the area of the teleport gates, suddenly…

Thud!

"Ack!" The moment Rover left the guidance area, he was bumped into by someone, making him fall to the ground.

Clang!

The card fell to the ground and slid forward.

Negut frowned, feeling a sharp pain where his prosthetic leg connected to his thigh, making him grimace.

He tried to stand up, his uncomfortable gaze fixed on the person who had just bumped into him. That girl hurriedly said, "Sorry! Sorry! I'm in a hurry, I'm really sorry."

After speaking, she shoved the card into his hand and ran off, her face panicked and hurried.

Seeing this, Negut didn't say anything else. Maybe the other party really did bump into him by accident, and he didn't care much.

"Gate S-7? I remember the card showing gate N-2 just now, didn't it?" Negut frowned, but he wasn't sure about his own memory.

After all, when he received the card, he hadn't paid attention to the gate number displayed on it.

Negut rubbed his aching thigh a little, then found his way to gate S-7.

At this moment, in the distance, the girl saw Negut leave without suspicion. She lowered her head and looked at the gray card in her hand. Sure enough, the gate number on it was N-2.

She sighed, took out her phone, and sent a message to someone named Nedaric in her contacts.

[Young master, it's done. He didn't suspect a thing.]

A moment later, a reply from Nedaric came through.

[Very good! The money will be transferred into your account. Don't contact me for the time being.]

The girl immediately deleted Nedaric's contact from her phone, deleted all chat history, sighed, and muttered, "Sorry…"

Negut now walked into a rather deserted area. Around him, it seemed there was only him and a few others.

He didn't think much of it, found the card placement spot, then entered the waiting room.

Inside the waiting room, he saw a woman already sitting there.

She wore a tight outfit that accentuated her extremely seductive curves, but her face was covered by a mask like a demon's face, with two small horns on it.

Negut looked at her, his eyes not hiding at all as he admired that perfect body.

"If you keep staring, I'll gouge your eyes out and feed them to dogs."

"Ack!" Hearing that voice, brimming with femininity yet no less icy, Negut shuddered and quickly turned his head away.

He curled his lip, didn't look anymore, then checked his attribute status panel.

....

Negut secretly felt relieved. With such thorough preparation, he didn't believe he would fail this time in the 'Newbie Trial'.

He had read online that… although people were not allowed to reveal information about the 'Newbie Trial', according to everyone's hints, the trial was very simple.

You just needed to be a bit careful, and even if you got injured, you could signal, and staff in the trial area would come to help you.

It could be said that it was no different from an amusement park, with not the slightest bit of challenge or danger, unless you were too reckless, stupid, or as weak as an ordinary person.

Right now, Negut not only possessed outstanding attribute stats, he also had two Blessings from the Gods, high-Rank skills, and Rank S equipment.

He felt… as long as he wasn't stupid enough to run into a monster den by himself, he could survive easily.

[Ting! Participants number 01 and 02, please enter the teleport gate.]

Even without looking at the card, Negut knew he and that weird masked woman were number 01 and 02, because this place only had the two of them.

That woman sensed his gaze and said irritably, "You…"

"Alright! What the hell are you being arrogant about?" Negut curled his lip and said disdainfully, "I'm just looking at you a little, why are you acting so annoyed? If you don't want people to look, then grab a burlap sack and put it on."

"Damn it! Do you think you're that pretty? Or angelically beautiful? Sorry, no matter how beautiful you are, if your personality is this unpleasant, no one will ever love you for your entire life."

"You…" Yuna was startled after being scolded by Negut. She was about to say something, but he had already run into the teleport gate and vanished.

"Huh!" Yuna snorted disdainfully. "An idiot. So weak, yet still daring enough to enter the 'Chaos' area, then just wait for death."

After saying that, she stepped into the teleport gate beside hers and disappeared.

….

Negut was immersed in a pitch-black space when a mechanical voice sounded by his ear.

[Ding! Please pay attention to your safety when arriving in this area. In this area, unless you find an anchor point, you cannot return.]

[If you encounter life-threatening danger, please activate 'rescue mode' on the card. The rescue team will come to you within 3 – 5 days.]

[Finally, we wish you safety.]

"Heh!?" Negut muttered in confusion, "This… is a bit different from the newbie guide I read. Alright, it's fine. It's just a 'Newbie Trial' anyway, how hard can it be?"

A few seconds later, Negut slowly opened his eyes and found himself standing in an abandoned city. Everywhere was ruined and desolate, with vegetation taking over everything.

In the distance, he even saw buildings that had collapsed into piles of rubble, or a building that was still standing, yet had been overrun by plants, turning into a pillar for countless vines to cling to.

Cold winds slipped through cracks, making a horrifying sound like someone screaming, sending a shiver of fear down Negut's spine.

Even though it was morning, the sky here was rather gloomy, making the atmosphere even heavier and more eerie.

"This… is this really the 'Newbie Trial'?" Negut murmured, because this scene was truly too terrifying, like the Apocalypse.

No, more precisely, post-Apocalypse.

But the setting of this world did use a post-Apocalypse backdrop, so Negut didn't feel it was strange that he was brought here.

"Maybe the Government wants newbies to truly feel how harsh this world is, so they arranged the newbie trial location in a place like this."

Negut found a reason to comfort himself, then looked around, sensing sharp gazes staring at him so intensely that he couldn't help but shudder.

"What the hell is that? Zombies, or monsters?"

Negut frowned. In reality, places like this no longer had zombies anymore. After all, zombies were monsters in the process of decay. After 5 or 10 years, their bodies would have completely rotted away, unable to exist anymore.

Unless…

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Suddenly, a strange sound rang out. Negut turned his head and immediately saw a creature he had only ever seen in games.

Zombie Licker.

The Licker clung tightly to the wall like a gigantic skinned lizard. Its entire body was naked, dark red muscle bulging, slick and glossy as if it had just crawled out of rotting flesh.

Its long, curved, sharp claws were sunk deep into the surface, dragging with a terrifying scraping sound.

Its deformed head was like a cracked, exposed brain, its mouth gaping wide to reveal sharp teeth.

From there, an abnormally long tongue shot out, lashing like a whip, spraying icy saliva.

Negut didn't think much and immediately used the skill to summon Slimne.

GRAOO!!!

Before Negut could use the skill, that zombie had already lunged at him, but at this moment, he also realized something very strange.

"This… why is it so slow?"
