The Franchise Slasher roared, a sound like a jet engine grinding metal. Red emergency lights pulsed in the Control Room, casting long, violent shadows across the faces of Team Void Pirates.
"Action!" Elara Vance screamed.
Kaelen Thorne moved first.
He didn't raise his shield. He dropped it.
He sprinted toward the monster, arms wide open, his face twisted into a mask of pure, melodramatic anguish.
"NO!" Kaelen bellowed, his voice cracking with emotion. "YOU WON'T HURT HER! SHE IS THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE! SHE IS MY REASON FOR BEING!"
The Host (Director) leaned forward on the observation deck, popcorn in hand. "Yes! The Sacrificial Love Interest! Give me the angst!"
The Slasher swung its massive bone-saw arm.
"I LOVE YOU, ELARA!" Kaelen screamed, throwing himself into the path of the blade. "REMEMBER ME AS I WAS! HANDSOME AND ARROGANT!"
