When you write "THE END" on the face of a god, you expect a certain level of finality. You expect a fade to black. You expect silence.
What Elara Vance got was a System Crash.
The Algorithm didn't just turn off. It screamed. A sound like a billion dial-up modems screeching in unison tore through the Greenlight Room. The millions of screens covering the walls shattered, raining glass and sparks onto the obsidian floor.
"ERROR," The Algorithm groaned, its voice dropping in pitch until it sounded like a dying whale. "NARRATIVE... TERMINATED. NO... SEQUEL... PLANNED."
The beam of optimization light that held the team flickered and died.
Aldren Vance fell to his knees. The leather jacket dissolved into mist, replaced by his tattered tuxedo. He dropped the vape pen as if it were burning him.
"I..." Aldren gasped, clutching his throat. "I tasted... mango ice. It was... foul. Why did I want to do a kickflip? I do not know how to skateboard!"
