Chapter 156 - Chapter 156: System Upgrade

[Contract Target: Ran Mouri. All conditions met. Initiate Covenant?]

As Yuu finished his final thrust, the system's notification rang in his head. Coming down from the high of the orgasm, he remembered Ran's wish. Her wish was simply to be with him forever—a condition she had set the moment they started.

"Contract," Yuu whispered in his mind.

[Covenant Successful. Mark of Fate issued. Effects active.]

In that moment, Yuu felt an unbreakable tether snap into place between him and the girl in his arms. He had no secrets from Ran anymore—he had already told her about his role in the Black Organization. As for his status as a "traveler" and the "system," he had explained it as "magic," which Ran had accepted after seeing his supernatural feats firsthand.

Ran curiously poked the faint, glowing mark on her lower abdomen before snuggling back into his chest, savoring the post-coital warmth.

[Detected deepening connection with the World's Fate. System Upgrade beginning.]

Another upgrade? Yuu's eyes widened. The first upgrade gave him the Fate Covenant; he couldn't wait to see what this one held.

One minute... two... ten...

Unlike the previous quick patch, this one took nearly twenty minutes. Yuu distracted himself by stroking Ran's hair. He realized that the system upgraded based on how much he influenced the "destiny" of the world. His first breakthrough was with Hitomi Kujo, but apparently, not every woman counted. To trigger a full upgrade, he needed someone pivotal.

Ran Mouri, the primary heroine, was the anchor of this world's fate. By binding his destiny to hers via the Covenant, he had essentially hijacked a massive portion of the world's "Fate Power."

Maybe I can upgrade again if I contract Haibara? he mused. Or maybe if I kill Gin or Conan?

Finally, the system chimed.

[System Upgrade Complete. Functionality overhaul. Please check the status panel.]

Yuu opened the interface. The cluttered list of talents was gone, replaced by a sleek, blue holographic screen.

[Name]: Yuu Hoshimiya [Body]: LV1 (Pending Upgrade) [Soul]: LV1 (Pending Upgrade) [Spirit]: LV1 (Pending Upgrade) [Upgrade Chances]: 0 [Copy Chances]: 2 [Plunder Chances]: 0

Information flooded his brain. The system had condensed everything into three core attributes:

[Body]: Strength, speed, reflexes, stamina, and recovery.

[Soul]: Willpower, mental fortitude, and spiritual presence.

[Spirit]: The "Numinous" or "Spirituality" attribute. This governed supernatural laws, magic capacity, and the ability to interact with the extraordinary.

In this world, most people had a [Spirit] of 0. A normal healthy adult had [Body] and [Soul] around LV10. To even possess magic, one had to break through to LV1 in Spirit.

Yuu realized the system was now optimized based on his own desires for a more "RPG-like" progression. It was acting as an extension of his will.

"System," Yuu asked mentally, "How do I get more Fate Power?"

[You have always been gathering it,] the system replied, its voice now sounding slightly more feminine and intelligent. [Interacting with 'Fate Characters' and participating in 'Fate Events' accelerates the process. Without these interactions, it would have taken 50 years to even activate the system.]

Yuu looked at his name. There was now an experience bar: [Name]: Yuu Hoshimiya (17%).

He asked the system if killing Conan or Gin was a viable way to gain power. The system didn't answer directly, but the implication was clear: it would work, but the "Fate Power" gained from their deaths might be less than the power gained from keeping them alive and interacting with them. In reality, if Conan died, the world's "script" would simply find a replacement. Keeping the "protagonists" around was a more sustainable way to "farm" Fate Power.

Next, Yuu looked at the upgrade process. His old talents could be converted into raw experience for his three attributes.

White Talent: 50 XP

Blue Talent: 500 XP

Purple Talent: 5,000 XP

Orange Talent: 50,000 XP

Red Talent: 500,000 XP

"Convert them all," Yuu commanded.

A strange warmth flooded his body. His vision blurred for a moment as the specialized powers of his various talents—like his superhuman eyesight and memory—were broken down and redistributed into his core stats.

[Final Status]: [Name]: Yuu Hoshimiya (17%) [Body]: LV23 (41%) [Soul]: LV30 (10%) [Spirit]: LV31 (1%)

His [Body] was now roughly 2.3 times stronger than a peak normal human. He wasn't quite at the level of Kyogoku Makoto (who could punch through concrete pillars), but he was getting close. His [Soul] and [Spirit] were even higher, thanks to his status as a "Traveler" and the "Luck of the Goddess" talent.

He also noticed that skills like "Bullet Time" (from his old Eye of Truth) were still available, but they were now "Active Skills" tied to his [Body] stat. Currently, he could only use Bullet Time once a day for two seconds, though this would improve as his level rose.

Yuu felt a sense of immense clarity. His path was now simple:

Increase his three core attributes.

Upgrade the system to unlock more features (like a Shop or Task menu).

Both required the same thing: Fate Power.

He tightened his grip on the sleeping Ran. She was his lucky goddess indeed. Not only had she given him the most pleasurable night of his life, but she had also paved the way for his ascension to godhood.
