Chapter 142 - Chapter 142: Thoughts & Invitation

Akemi Miyano absolutely could not go to prison; all three of the robbers from this incident had to die.

Akemi Miyano was just a minor player who knew too much; if it weren't for her younger sister, Shiho Miyano, the organization wouldn't care about her at all.

However, once Shiho Miyano successfully escaped in the future, the organization would certainly try every means to use Akemi Miyano to flush her out.

Therefore, not only was this required by the mission, but from Yuu Hoshimiya's personal standpoint, he also hoped that Akemi Miyano would be "dead" to the outside world.

Only in this way could future troubles be eliminated once and for all, and she could escape the attention of the Red side as well.

Because there was still Shuichi Akai, a man just as obsessed as Conan.

Shuichi Akai had nothing in his head but catching Gin and destroying the Black Organization; he didn't care about anything else.

Breaking up with Jodie, deceiving Akemi Miyano, using her to go undercover in the organization, killing the best friend of fellow undercover agent Rei Furuya...

It could only be said that Gin was truly formidable; even such a ruthless person hadn't successfully caught him.

Shuichi Akai was the Miyano sisters' cousin, yet aside from using them, he had shown no intention of helping them escape the organization.

When he was exposed, he withdrew and left, completely ignoring whether the Miyano sisters lived or died.

Akemi Miyano's whimsical idea of leaving the organization was likely influenced by Shuichi Akai.

If Shuichi Akai could leave, why couldn't she?

And even with Shiho Miyano around, knowing that killing Akemi would make her disobedient, Gin still chose execution; this was inseparable from Shuichi Akai's situation.

In Yuu's memory, there were many bugs regarding Akemi Miyano.

According to the author Gosho Aoyama, the two were cousins...

Well, the organization didn't know that point.

But Shuichi Akai had successfully entered the organization as Akemi Miyano's boyfriend and became a core member.

Yet when her boyfriend was an FBI undercover agent who had been exposed and fled, Akemi Miyano actually received no punishment at all?

If it weren't for her insisting on taking Shiho Miyano and leaving, Gin probably wouldn't have carried out the execution.

But this was the real world, and there were no bugs.

Therefore, it was highly likely that the two were not boyfriend and girlfriend, or perhaps had no relationship at all, which is why Akemi wasn't implicated after Shuichi Akai defected.

In this 1-billion-yen robbery incident, Gin had given Akemi Miyano more than one chance, saying he would forgive her this time as long as she honestly handed over the money...

Akemi Miyano didn't believe it, but Yuu felt it was actually possible.

Because the mission brief stated that if Akemi Miyano gave up the idea of leaving the organization, she didn't have to be killed.

After all, the research Shiho Miyano was responsible for was too important; it could be called the origin of the Conan-science world!

Without APTX4869, there would be no Conan, and no world of Conan-science!

Moreover, that undying old man Renya Karasuma was probably waiting for this to extend his life.

As Shiho Miyano's only cherished relative, the organization couldn't possibly be unaware of Akemi Miyano's importance to her.

After executing Akemi Miyano, Gin had been hiding the truth from Shiho Miyano.

Unfortunately, Gin wasn't Vermouth; he couldn't disguise himself as Akemi to deceive Shiho, nor could he act, so it was exposed after a while.

Then, unsurprisingly, Shiho Miyano stopped cooperating and refused to continue the research on APTX4869.

After being imprisoned, she took the risk of death and chose to swallow APTX4869.

The result was good; she successfully shrank and escaped through the ventilation duct.

Yuu continuously flipped through his memories, pondering the causes and consequences of this incident, the relationships between the involved characters, and what the optimal solution would be.

Meanwhile, his hands didn't stop. After successfully picking the lock of the apartment door, he quietly entered the racing driver's bedroom.

Yuu was not a professional locksmith and lacked skills or talent in this area, so he made a slight noise.

The sleeping racing driver in the bedroom was awakened, but before he could react, a dark figure had pushed open the door and pulled the trigger.

In his terrified eyes, a wisp of white smoke rose from the pistol's silencer, and then a blood-red hole appeared in the center of his brow; his pupils dilated, and he completely lost consciousness.

Confirming the target was dead, Yuu dropped the specially aged lipstick onto the floor and drifted away.

What remained was to meet Akemi Miyano; he hoped Conan wouldn't get involved.

However, the possibility was low.

Yuu sighed softly in his heart, took out his phone, and dialed Akemi Miyano's number.

Akemi Miyano worked for the organization, and her robbery this time was intended as a trade with Gin; her contact information was naturally in the mission data.

Yuu used his own phone instead of the organization's phone.

Because he was worried the organization's phone had a bugging function; the probability was too high.

In fact, the phone didn't have one, as its volume was small and electronic components would interfere with each other.

For the sake of confidentiality, positioning, and other functions, the eavesdropping function had been abandoned.

It wasn't on the phone, but it was in the car.

Fortunately, Yuu had considered this point as well and chose to make the call from an apartment.

Only the clothes were prepared by himself; otherwise, he might have had to change clothes before calling.

The more Gin valued Yuu, the heavier his initial defenses against him would be.

Hidemi Hondou's father, or whoever it was—anyway, an experienced undercover agent—had fallen to a miniature bug and tracker hidden in the contact person's collar.

To protect that contact, he had to choose to let the other person kill him.

That contact person was a new undercover agent who had just joined the organization, thinking he had gained trust while not even knowing he was bugged and tracked.

Yuu had seen this plot on TV back then; he hadn't seen the beginning, so he only remembered the plot but not the character relationships within it.

Soon, the call went through.

"Moshi moshi?"

Akemi Miyano's voice was very gentle, but the confusion within it was obvious.

She was just at the bottom of the organization and didn't have a dedicated phone, but she had specifically set up this number for this robbery; aside from her accomplices and Gin, no one should know it.

"Miss Masami Hirota..."

Yuu paused for a moment and corrected himself: "I should call you Miss Akemi Miyano. Lord Gin has handed this mission to me; I will be your contact from now on."

"What?"

Akemi Miyano instinctively raised her voice, but quickly lowered it again.

"Why the sudden change? Does what Gin promised me no longer count?"

"I also happen to want to talk to you about that point."

Yuu weighed his words and said slowly: "If you want to save your sister, come alone at seven o'clock tonight..."

Yuu gave a location; this was a secret stronghold the Suzuki family had recently prepared for him.

Aside from Yuu and the Suzuki women, no one knew of the existence of this small villa with a basement.

Tomoko Suzuki was still arranging similar secret bases; one wasn't enough, and Yuu needed at least seven or eight to have several bolt-holes.

Bringing Akemi Miyano here was partly because he planned to let the Miyano sisters use this place as their future residence once this matter was over.

This small villa was very similar to the homes of Shinichi Kudo and Hiroshi Agasa, situated in a small cluster of villas and not at all conspicuous.

However, the facilities inside were top-tier, and the basement was already equipped with the finest experimental instruments.

Yuu naturally couldn't support the Miyano sisters for nothing; putting Akemi aside for now, Shiho Miyano had to work for him and continue the research on APTX4869.

The plan was beautiful, but the prerequisite was successfully persuading Akemi Miyano to cooperate with him.

Giving Akemi Miyano no chance to continue questioning, Yuu hung up the phone directly.

The remaining matters were very important; they had to be discussed face-to-face at his own territory.

As for Akemi Miyano not coming?

Yuu wasn't worried about that point at all; where her sister was concerned, even if she knew there was danger, Akemi Miyano would do it.

Just like this 1-billion-yen robbery—did she really not know Gin was lying to her?

Yet for that sliver of hope, she went ahead and did it anyway.

Returning the organization's car to the base, Yuu also disposed of the sportswear used for the crime; after changing back into his own clothes, he took a taxi directly to the secret villa.

His movements were fast; he received the mission in the morning and had already taken out two targets just past noon.

When returning the car, he incidentally reported the mission progress and, unsurprisingly, received a satisfied look from Gin.

Gin was liking Yuu more and more now.

As a workaholic, he loved this kind of decisive efficiency.

If someone dawdled on a mission for days, how could they take over his position in the future?
