Chapter 126 - Chapter 126: Divorce

What Kogoro Mouri said wasn't actually wrong; if they really pursued it, the hotel would definitely have to pay a large sum.

Yuu Hoshimiya also felt they should claim compensation to teach the hotel a lesson, but this topic was clearly not one that should be brought up right now.

Yuu didn't consider his emotional intelligence to be exceptionally high, but any normal person should know to prioritize caring for Eri Kisaki's well-being first.

Even if there was to be a claim later, it should be initiated by Eri herself.

Kogoro's behavior could no longer be described as lacking EQ; it was as if he simply didn't care about Eri's feelings at all.

It seems Japanese men often have this flaw—not placing much importance on their wives' emotions.

This point likely has something to do with the "housewife culture."

Without economic power, one naturally lacks a voice.

But Eri Kisaki was no ordinary housewife; she was the undefeated queen of the legal world, earning more in a year than 99% of people.

Sure enough, hearing Kogoro's words, Eri's delicate brows furrowed instantly, and she felt incredibly uncomfortable.

"Forget it, we're getting divorced soon anyway..."

Muttering this to herself, Eri managed to suppress her irritability and avoided a direct conflict with Kogoro.

After Kogoro finished venting, Ran and Yuu expressed their concern for Eri; after confirming her condition was stable and that she could be discharged soon, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Midori, it looks like I'll have to trouble you again for the next few days," Eri said with an apologetic face to her secretary, who had little presence but had been running back and forth to help.

What was supposed to be a half-day trip to relax had suddenly turned into a three-day "vacation."

Eri was resting, but the law firm's work wouldn't just vanish; Midori Kuriyama would have to work harder and put in some overtime for now.

"Lawyer Kisaki, please just focus on resting; don't worry too much about work."

Seeing that no one echoed his denunciation of the hotel, Kogoro felt disgruntled; he then caught sight of Yuu asking after Eri with such intimacy, which immediately reminded him of Yuu sucking out the venom earlier.

Although he hadn't seen the details, the posture of the two allowed for a lot of imagination.

Or rather, precisely because he couldn't see the specifics—the blackish-red toxic blood or Yuu's slightly swollen lips—Kogoro's thoughts drifted even further in that direction.

Once Eri regained her senses, she naturally knew Yuu had saved her; her already high favorability for him surged significantly.

If not for the age gap and Ran's presence, she might have even considered actively pursuing Yuu after the divorce.

A hero saving a beauty is truly a classic trope that has endured for millennia.

As long as one is a normal person, it is hard not to fall after going through such an ordeal.

Yuu didn't know Eri's exact thoughts, but that didn't stop him from sensing the change in her attitude.

The accident had given him quite a scare, but now it seemed... he had actually turned a profit?

Facing Yuu's concern, Eri no longer maintained the attitude of an elder as before; she responded warmly and kindly, one might even say tenderly.

In over thirty years of knowing each other, even after marriage, Eri had never treated Kogoro like this, which caused his jealousy to explode instantly.

Most importantly, Kogoro felt that familiar weight on his head again, as if a "green hat" had been placed upon him.

Envy, jealousy, resentment...

With multiple buffs active, Kogoro didn't care that they were in a hospital ward and barked at Eri, "Eri, watch yourself! You are a married woman, and your husband is right here!"

Before everyone could react to Kogoro's sudden outburst, he immediately turned his lecture toward Yuu.

"Yuu kid, I'm grateful you saved Eri, but you need to be careful next time. That area is so private; if it was just about sucking out venom, you could have told me and let me do it..."

"Enough! Get out!"

Yuu found it both speechless and amusing; just as he was about to retort, Eri beat him to it in a rage.

The beautiful Eri's face was as cold as frost; her expression seemed even grimmer than when she was poisoned.

"You don't care about my life, but now you suddenly care about your 'male dignity'?"

Eri laughed out of sheer anger, "I knew you always had this personality, but I didn't expect that after living apart for so many years, you wouldn't change—you've only gotten worse."

"I-I'm only saying this after the fact! I didn't say it back then..."

Kogoro wasn't stupid; he knew he didn't have a leg to stand on.

However, he would absolutely never admit he was wrong.

Faced with his stubbornness, Eri couldn't be bothered to argue further.

"Fine. As soon as I'm discharged, we are getting a divorce. I will draft the agreement; you can sign it once you see there are no issues."

Eri's sentence was a finishing blow.

Since Kogoro wanted to bring up her status as a married woman, she would simply solve that problem at the root.

"Eri, you..."

Kogoro's words stopped abruptly.

The commotion in the ward had attracted quite a few people; seeing the onlookers, the words on the tip of his tongue changed to, "Fine! Let's get a divorce! We've lived apart for so long anyway, it's no different from being divorced."

Eri waved her hand, signaling for him to leave immediately.

Kogoro let out a cold snort, glared at Yuu, and strode out of the ward with heavy steps.

Conan, standing in the corner, looked at the departing Kogoro, then at Ran and Yuu; finally, at Yuu's signal, he followed with a sigh.

"Uncle Mouri, wait for me!" Conan chased after him on his short legs.

He had no choice; Yuu's look made it clear that they had no time to look after a "fake child" right now.

If he didn't want to be abandoned at the hospital, Conan had to stick close to Kogoro.

Once the two were gone, Eri looked at Ran, "Ran, you won't blame me, will you?"

"Dad went too far this time."

Ran shook her head; she had been shocked at first, but once she realized Yuu was saving Eri's life, she hadn't given it another thought.

On the contrary, hearing the doctor say Eri might have died if not for the proper first aid, she felt even more grateful to Yuu.

If her affection for him hadn't already been near its limit, it would have surely increased a lot more today.

"Ran, I haven't spent much time with you all these years. Once the divorce is finalized, come and live with me."

Eri looked at Ran tenderly and said, "You've taken care of Kogoro for so many years; it's time he lived on his own. Besides, you're growing up, and it's not convenient for you to live with him anymore."

Ran hesitated for a second before nodding decisively in agreement.

The rule of "grown daughters avoiding fathers and grown sons avoiding mothers" is the same everywhere; perverted as the Japanese can be, this remains a standard, with only the timing differing.

Kogoro Mouri was a total chauvinist; before the separation, Eri took care of Ran while he did almost no housework.

After the separation, it became Ran taking care of herself and him.

This meant Ran rarely had to worry about privacy because Kogoro never had the chance to "take advantage."

However, now that she was older, it was indeed becoming increasingly inconvenient.

The main issue was laundry—specifically her underwear.

Other things could be avoided with a little caution, but underwear always needs to be hung out to dry.

While it's not the end of the world for a father to see his daughter's garments, avoiding it is always better.

Most importantly, Ran was truly exhausted from taking care of him all these years.

In a few more years, she would be getting married anyway, so she should take this time to make up for the lost mother-daughter bonding.

Hearing this, Yuu looked at Midori Kuriyama and met the secretary's mischievous smile.

"Congratulations~"

Midori's small mouth moved without making a sound, mouthing the words to Yuu.

Yuu nodded as if he were as calm as a breeze, but in reality, he almost wanted to jump for joy.

With Eri Kisaki divorced, the difficulty of conquering her had plummeted.

Unsurprisingly, with Midori acting as his inside agent, there would soon be results.

A strong sense of chastity was Eri's virtue, which kept her pure during her years of separation, but it also made it nearly impossible to "take her down" before she was divorced.

While Eri was kicking Kogoro to the curb in the ward, over at the hotel, Kiwako Toda was also dumping Masahiko Matsuzaki.

After Eri was sent to the hospital, Kiwako and Haru Matsuzaki wanted to go along, but Masahiko and the others claimed everyone had just met by chance and weren't close enough for that.

In reality, they just didn't want to be humiliated by Yuu anymore.

Kiwako and Haru were a bit angry and intended to go to the hospital alone, but before that, there was one matter to settle.

The two girls lived in the same room anyway; using the excuse of changing clothes, they easily found themselves alone.
