Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: A Major Achievement

The thought of Midori Megure, the sensual mature woman, potentially being unsatisfied made Hoshimiya Yuu's pants shift slightly.

Looking at Juzo Megure's somewhat lewd smile, Hoshimiya Yuu secretly decided to discuss Midori Megure with him sometime.

He couldn't allow such a beautiful mature woman to keep an empty bedroom!

It wasn't that he was that horny, but his little brother had just been initiated and was at its peak of desire. Plus, he had been teased all night without actually getting the main course…

His little head was truly uncontrollable by the big one.

Taking a deep breath to rein in his wandering thoughts, Hoshimiya Yuu said, "Inspector, I was actually going to tell you something I investigated, but it seems you're not very interested?"

The three hadn't done anything truly intimate last night, but it was bound to happen soon, so Hoshimiya Yuu skipped the explanations.

The priority now was to wrap up the Tsukikage Island situation and return to Tokyo with Asai Narumi.

He could leave it alone, as it looked like Juzo Megure and his team had no real intention of seriously pursuing the killer.

They also lacked the capability to investigate.

But Hoshimiya Yuu felt uneasy about leaving the drug traffickers on Tsukikage Island unpunished.

And there was that disgusting woman, Reiko Kuroiwa.

Hoshimiya Yuu already had a plan, but he wasn't sure if Juzo Megure would cooperate.

If the Inspector were a strictly upright officer, the plan might backfire.

However, based on Juzo Megure's previous demeanor, the old fox didn't seem as rigid as he appeared.

With that in mind, Hoshimiya Yuu felt confident and could also do Juzo Megure a favor.

A Police Inspector's favor might come in handy someday.

Upon hearing Hoshimiya Yuu's words, Juzo Megure immediately perked up.

He stopped heading for the door, hastily inviting Hoshimiya Yuu to sit down and asked, "Hoshimiya, my boy, have you already found traces of the killer?"

Inspector Megure had witnessed Hoshimiya Yuu's abilities during the Shinkansen bombing case.

He rarely spoke, but when he did, he was almost always certain. This current case was serious, involving drugs and a twelve-year-old family massacre, and he had been racking his brains over it.

Now that the solution seemed within reach, he couldn't help but be impatient.

The more anxious Juzo Megure became, the calmer Hoshimiya Yuu appeared.

He coughed twice and cleared his throat. "Inspector Megure, I've been talking so much that my throat is dry."

Inspector Megure glared at the police officer standing nearby.

"What are you standing around for? Don't you know to get Hoshimiya, my boy, some tea?"

"Yes, sir!" The officer snapped to attention and immediately turned to prepare tea outside.

"Make two extra cups. There are three of us here."

Hearing Hoshimiya Yuu's request, the young officer instinctively looked at Inspector Megure.

"Why are you looking at me? Didn't you understand Hoshimiya, my boy, just now?"

Juzo Megure scolded him with a stern face. When he turned back to Hoshimiya Yuu, he switched to a benevolent, smiling expression.

"Hoshimiya, my boy, please excuse my subordinates. They can be slow."

"Not at all, Inspector Megure. You train your officers well."

"Haha, well, thank you, thank you."

No one dislikes having subordinates who are absolutely deferential. Inspector Megure was pleased with the young officer's reaction, but he couldn't admit it out loud.

After a bit of chitchat, and once the young officer had walked far enough away, Hoshimiya Yuu said, "Ran, lock the door."

Ran nodded and locked the door.

Juzo Megure looked puzzled but didn't stop her.

"Hoshimiya, my boy, why the precaution…"

"Inspector Megure, what I'm about to say is not suitable for others to hear."

Hoshimiya Yuu smiled faintly. "Especially not your detectives."

Juzo Megure immediately became serious, recognizing that the following conversation must be highly unusual.

Seeing that Inspector Megure was ready, Hoshimiya Yuu didn't drag it out. "Inspector Megure, based on my investigation, drug trafficking is still occurring on Tsukikage Island."

"What? It should have stopped after Kenzo Aso died…"

Drug trafficking was a serious matter. Japan was a country with strict drug and gun control laws.

Aside from the Eastern Giant next door, few countries in the world have stronger controls than Japan.

"Inspector Megure, don't panic."

Hoshimiya Yuu interrupted, "This seems to be just a small, private transaction, not a large-scale syndicate case. If handled properly, this, along with the three murder cases, could all become your achievement."

Juzo Megure's eyes sparkled. He suddenly found the Hoshimiya Yuu in front of him more appealing than the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

He couldn't help it. Ever since that incident years ago, he had lost interest in women.

It was also from that time that Juzo Megure transformed from a robust strong man into a fat Inspector who focused on wielding power.

"Hoshimiya, my boy, please elaborate. There will be a generous reward afterward."

Juzo Megure looked at Hoshimiya Yuu seriously. "If it's true, you can name your request. I will fulfill it if it is within my power."

Hoshimiya Yuu was aiming for exactly those words from Juzo Megure. Dealing with a sharp mind was easy.

He nodded with satisfaction and said slowly, "The people currently involved in drug transactions are the current Village Chief's secretary and Hideo Kawashima, one of the three victims and a strong candidate for the next village chief."

"I couldn't obtain concrete evidence, but I guarantee that if you search the Village Chief's secretary's home and Hideo Kawashima's home, you will certainly find unsold drugs."

Giving Juzo Megure a moment to process, Hoshimiya Yuu continued, "The current Village Chief, Kuroiwa, also knows about this, but his involvement is uncertain. However, it doesn't matter, as his past record isn't clean anyway."

"All three victims were involved in drug trafficking, including Hideo Kawashima, who was actively dealing. Therefore, the drugs are clearly the key to this case."

Hoshimiya Yuu lowered his voice. "So, the killer must be one of the drug traffickers. The murders happened because of a disagreement over the division of profits."

"Ah?!"

The sudden twist left Juzo Megure utterly confused.

His brain couldn't comprehend how Hoshimiya Yuu had reached that conclusion.

Ran and Asai Narumi also looked curiously at Hoshimiya Yuu, wondering what he was planning.

Hoshimiya Yuu crossed his hands in front of his face, striking a similar pose to Commander Ikari, and countered, "Does Inspector Megure think otherwise?"

"It… it should be…"

Juzo Megure instinctively agreed with Hoshimiya Yuu.

"Inspector Megure, be confident. It must be."

Hoshimiya Yuu smiled and whispered, "Otherwise, how will you claim the credit? How will you catch the killer? And how will you solve an international drug trafficking case spanning over a decade?"

"I see!"

Juzo Megure slammed his fist into his palm, as if an epiphany had struck him.

Lately, spending too much time with Shinichi Kudou had muddled his thinking.

He had started believing he really needed to uncover the truth, forgetting the method he was most proficient at.

After Hoshimiya Yuu enlightened him, Juzo Megure knew exactly what to do without further instruction.

Having been the Police Inspector for the First Investigation Division for so many years, this kind of manipulation was not new to him.

Moreover, with Hoshimiya Yuu providing the drug leads, the execution became even simpler.
