Chapter 236 - [236] Unearthing the Forbidden Spellbook

Faced with this kind of taboo knowledge, Vizette naturally did not try it lightly.

There were people around him who were worth caring about... many people who were worth caring about.

Only when one had more means to avoid the risks of magical experiments would one truly study these topics.

Therefore, his current plan was to focus his research on the theoretical level for the time being.

If the opportunity arose, he could consult with knowledgeable professors to gain more experience and prepare for future research.

...

Besides books related to dark magic, the Restricted Section offered Vizette many other surprises.

On one of the relatively normal bookshelves, he found a normal book—The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4.

Based on the book's dragon-patterned cover, as well as the handwriting and signature inside, he deduced that the book was the original, which was why it was kept in the Restricted Section.

"This spellbook will allow you to use some less basic spells to make your life richer, safer, and more colorful."

This was the first sentence in the book, and below it was a signature: Miranda Goshawk.

Miranda Goshawk had also been a student at Hogwarts.

The creation of The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4 was a landmark achievement, and it was a great success upon its release, sparking discussions among wizards.

Many magic schools had abandoned their original spellbooks and chosen The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4 as their new textbooks.

The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4 was published in the 1950s, which was a noteworthy point in time.

If one combined this with major events in the wizarding world, something interesting emerged—the wizarding world, having experienced the Wizarding World War, was more capable and more willing to accept new things.

...

This book contained not only spells for starting fires, cutting, cleaning, unlocking, summoning, and water-making, but also other magic that Vizette had already mastered.

It also recorded more complex and difficult-to-master spells such as the Ironclad Spell, the Bombarda, and the Protego.

In addition, students who had read the book also recorded extra magic in the margins and corners of the book.

It was like a spell called the Bubble-Head Charm, which created a bubble around the head for underwater breathing or to help breathe in polluted environments.

Similar spells to the Bubble-Head Charm included the Disillusionment Charm, the Duplication Charm, and the Multi-Shot Charm, all of which were of great research value.

Since The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4 in his mind only retained its original contents, Vizette quickly took out his notebook and copied down all the annotations and spells in the book for future reference.

Having done all this, he left the Restricted Section with a sense of lingering satisfaction.

...

Upon entering the library's public areas, one noticed an increase in the number of portrait paintings around the room.

It was late at night, and the portraits were all snoring and nodding, their eyes closed.

"Alohomora!"

Vizette tapped the door lock lightly, and with a click, the library door slowly opened.

He strode out the door and cast another spell on the lock. "Reparo!"

Another "click" sounded, and the door lock was locked again.

This was a little trick he had learned from the commentary on The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4, and it just so happened to come in handy.

Just then, cheerful laughter suddenly came from the other side; it was the Weasley twins' voices.

"Joe... ptooey! Marcus, run that way!"

"No problem! My dearest Delian!"

"Meow!"

A sharp meow rang out, followed by slightly chaotic footsteps.

Filch's furious voice rang out. "Staying up in the middle of the night! I'm going to catch you all! I'll put you in solitary confinement!"

Vizette bumped into Fred, who asked in surprise, "Vizette... what are you doing here?"

Before Vizette could answer, Fred immediately grinned mischievously. "Oh! Good news! As expected of our dear materials consultant!"

"Meow!"

Mrs. Norris's calls grew closer.

"No... If you get arrested too, it won't be easy to get you to testify and prove our innocence later!"

Fred's eyes darted around, and he suddenly changed direction again, intending to go back the way he came. "You better hide quickly, and when Filch catches me, you can sneak away!"

Before Vizette could speak, he winked and ran off, placing his hand on his forehead and flicking it away as a farewell. "Bye-bye!"

"Meow!"

"Wow! It's been two years, and this cat is still as energetic as ever!"

Fred and Mrs. Norris appeared to be locked in a struggle, and as Filch's footsteps drew closer, the sounds from the nearby corridor grew increasingly chaotic.

Although George and Fred enjoyed playing pranks, they were rarely actually caught or penalized, which was why they were popular with most Gryffindor students.

It could bring joy without causing trouble, which was indeed very pleasing.

Now, Fred's first thought was to distract Vizette from Filch and prevent Vizette from being caught and penalized; the underlying meaning of which was self-evident.

Whatever the motive, Vizette did not want Fred to exonerate him in this way.

He wanted to have a more enjoyable and carefree night out, and even take more people on night outs. Winning over Filch, the gatekeeper, was a necessary step.

Recalling the events of the past few days, especially those involving Filch, he ran toward Fred, pondering a way to resolve the issue once and for all.

These methods not only involved communication and coordination, but also the application of various magical techniques; at least two sets of methods could be prepared...

The noise in the corridor subsided, and Filch's triumphant voice rang out. "Hahaha! I've finally caught you! Three years! I've been waiting for this day for three years! You're finished!"

"Congratulations!" Fred was out of breath, but his cheerful tone was still evident. "You were only able to catch us when we first started school, hehe!"

"Give me back Marcus! Give me back Delian! Who are you trying to frame?" Filch demanded menacingly. "Which House are they students from?"

"Heh..." Fred just responded with a strange laugh.

"It doesn't matter if you don't talk… I've got you!" Filch said nonchalantly. "I'm going to take you to Professor McGonagall and let her punish you!"

"There's another one… the one who looks just like you, is his name George or Fred? If you want to save him, come out now! Your brother is in my hands!"

George certainly would not abandon Fred, and immediately appeared at the end of the corridor. "Oh! You've actually learned some tricks now. Looks like you've really improved!"

At the same time, Vizette arrived and appeared at the other end of the corridor.

Filch looked left and right, then exclaimed with delight. "This is amazing! I never expected there would be another person here. This is wonderful!"

George's eyes widened, then his face broke into a smile. "Great! As expected of our dear materials consultant, night outings are so much fun! You finally understand!"
