Chapter 233 - [234] Plucking Memories from the Past

There were quite a few ancient magical armors there, and in some corner niches, there were also several metal boxes that seemed to contain all sorts of magical materials.

Vizette defeated eight more armored figures and finally saw a different room.

In the center of the room was a strangely shaped stone pillar, above which floated an open notebook, similar in style to The Standard Book of Spells.

As Vizette approached the stone pillar, he discovered it was a stone basin containing a silvery substance that appeared extremely heavy, yet subtly and delicately flowing.

Instead of touching the silvery liquid, he examined the floating book.

On the open pages of the book were lines of handwriting from Serena, her messages.

"The fact that you've made it this far means you've passed the trial by the armor. How did it feel? Were those armors easy to deal with?"

"Back when I became a guardian, I also went through the torment of these behemoths. But... it was quite an interesting experience, wasn't it?"

"After you defeated those armored figures, you should have seen quite a few chests, right? You can use those as you wish; they are all rewards for defeating the armored figures."

"That stone basin under the notebook is the so-called Pensieve. I think as a Ravenclaw, you should understand what the Pensieve is for."

"The Isaiahs have been like worms, sneaking around the world for so long, they're already rolling in money, so don't be shy; don't worry about saving money for them!"

"This notebook contains a memory that records an interesting form of mental magic. You are free to choose when to use these memories."

"Also, if you want to come here again next time, you can use this notebook. It's a reusable Portkey, which should save you a lot of time."

After Vizette finished reading the messages, the words on them slowly disappeared, converging into a silver thread that floated gently above the notebook like smoke and illusion.

Vizette recalled the message from earlier, placed his hand on the stone basin, and looked thoughtful.

"The Pensieve?"

It was a magical artifact used to access memories, allowing users to experience the content of those memories from a third-person perspective, as if they were actually there.

Because memory itself was highly subjective, without a strong enough inner strength, one would often be influenced by this subjective experience when personally experiencing the memory.

There were generally three ways to avoid being influenced by such personal subjectivity.

The first method was to use magic such as Occlumency to actively resist and minimize the influence from personal subjectivity by protecting oneself.

The second method involved consciously processing the memory when the spellcaster retrieved it, thereby making the memory pure and reducing the influence of personal subjectivity in advance.

The third approach was to modify the Pensieve itself to protect the user and mitigate the influence of personal subjectivity from the outset.

Vizette himself had constructed a soul labyrinth, and he had also practiced the art of Occlumency, which he had now mastered to a basic level, allowing him to avoid being affected by memories themselves.

He took out his wand and lightly touched the silver thread. The thread trembled slightly, but remained firmly attached to the tip of the wand.

This memory contained some kind of spiritual magic.

He was very curious about this unknown magical knowledge.

Vizette dipped the tip of his wand into the Pensieve, and the silver threads seemed to dissolve, turning into an ink-like liquid that slowly dissipated into the Pensieve.

He bent down and slowly pressed his face into the silvery liquid in the Pensieve.

The moment he touched the silvery fluid, he felt a sudden loss of weight.

It was as if his feet had left the ground and entered the Pensieve, where he was constantly moving and falling downwards...

Before he knew it, Vizette found himself in a room made of stone.

Torches hung on both sides of the room, but their flickering flames didn't provide much light, making the room somewhat dim.

About ten steps in front of Vizette stood a man dressed in extremely retro clothing.

The man looked somewhat sad as he wrote a note and attempted to cast a spell, as if conducting some kind of magical experiment.

At the very top of the notebook was written the name of this spell: Obliviate.

Vizette just stared at the man, watching him adjust his tone and rhythm again and again, trying to cast the spell over and over again.

He observed the man's expression and tried to understand the spell's logic of the Obliviate by reading the incantation and intonation.

This was a very peculiar perspective, as if he were the creator of magic, experiencing the process of creating magic from scratch.

The spell for extracting memories was somewhat similar to the spell for forgetting memories.

Compared to the Obliviate, the Memory Charm required the wand tip to be pressed against the temple at the end of the spell before being slowly removed.

The spell for this mental magic was "Obliviate," which was similar to the spell for forgetting, "Forget All," except that the last syllable needed to be drawn out longer.

Through a combination of incantations and spellcasting gestures, the man finally completed the magic, extracting a wisp of ethereal silver thread.

As the silver thread left his temple and fluttered gently at the tip of his wand, the sadness on the man's face vanished, replaced by a sense of relief.

Clearly, the man created this magic to rid himself of grief and to escape the influence of painful memories...

...

Vizette felt weightlessness again. When he came to his senses, the scene around him returned to normal, and in front of him was a slightly rippling silver fluid.

He let out a long breath, once again marveling at the wonder of magic.

It was a really interesting experience to be able to learn a kind of magic so intuitively.

He quickly took out his notebook and wrote down everything he had seen and heard, as well as his learning experience.

The process of taking notes was also a process of digesting and understanding.

Vizette continued to ponder the Obliviate, which led to a number of ideas.

This magic was not just about extracting memories; if it could be combined with "Ancient Magic: Transference Spell," it might produce many interesting effects.

For example, if we modified memories and then combined them with the Pensieve, could we achieve the effect of a "motion-sensory movie"?

In this way, perhaps those who used the Pensieve could experience a movie or a story in an immersive way...

Vizette also wrote down these ideas, intending to give them a proper try when conditions allowed in the future.

To achieve this effect, the Pensieve would need to be improved, and he would also need to master the method of making the Pensieve.

The Pensieve was a profound magical artifact, and to create a qualified Pensieve naturally required exceptional skill in crafting magical artifacts...

Thinking about it this way, he still had a lot to learn.

Only by understanding more could one put their ideas into practice.

Magic, indeed, had no end to learning!
