ND-07.
Three letters and two numbers. It's not a name, but since last night it has a face.
I'm in my office on the shadow level, with the lights still dim and my coffee cold, looking at the table Aurora generated. The identifier appears again and again in places where it shouldn't: consistency adjustments, incident corrections, reports where its history is trimmed down to make it comfortable.
I wanted to let it sleep. At least one of the two bombs I'm carrying deserves a rest.
"Sebastian," I open the channel.
"Here," he replies, his voice sounding like it's the middle of the night. "Have you seen the mapping for ND-07?"
"I want a name and position," I say. "No beating around the bush."
I hear typing on the other end. A few seconds.
"ND-07," he reads. "User associated with Nadia Duarte, Compliance and Institutional Relations area. High access level. Reports directly to senior management, not to you."
Of course.
