POV: Dante
Sebastian drops Lina's dossier on my desk as if it weighs twice as much as it actually does.
"This is what she saw," he says. "Logs, emails, hallway gossip."
I open the notebook. Screenshots everywhere.
"Emotional dependence."
"Noir influence."
"External evaluation."
War always starts like this: first the adjectives change, then the rules.
"Did Lina see all this from her normal user account?" I ask.
"Yes. She didn't do anything that anyone with curiosity and a little common sense couldn't do," he replies. "That's the worst part."
I move on to the foundation's emails. The phrase that interests me is in bold:
"It would be prudent to transfer Ms. Vega's medical follow-up to a neutral team. Ideally outside Noir."
Neutral. Again.
"There's something else," Sebastián adds. "Comments in the clinic hallways. He's heard that Aurora's 'next medical checkup' would be done by an external team, 'at the request of the foundation.'"
The chair creaks as I lean back.
