POV: Aurora
I look out the window on the twelfth floor and see Lina crossing the fence, tiny between guards and glass. She's carrying her usual backpack and wearing old sneakers.
Five minutes ago, she texted me: "I'm going in. If I don't come out, tell my mom I love her and that it was the fault of a millionaire with control issues."
I smile to myself.
There's a knock at the door.
"Aurora," announces a security voice. "Your visitor is here."
"Let her in," I reply.
The door opens and Lina enters, looking at everything as if she were in an expensive museum. When she sees me, her defenses come down. She crosses the room and hugs me so tightly that she almost takes my breath away.
"You're hot," she says immediately. "And not in a good way."
"Thanks for the compliment," I reply against her shoulder. "I missed you too."
She steps back and scans me.
"I thought I was going to find you hooked up to a thousand machines," she says. "This looks like a hotel, not a hospital ward."
