Chapter 2.5 : Howls of the Silent Library
The library stood silently, miles of rows of ancient books stood. No dust found its home here, the concept of dust didn't exist in this private sanctum. The rays of light shown into the library giving it a warm glow. The silence was disrupted by faint distant voices and the clattering of small pieces of wood. Teppun sat in a modest wooden chair by window, outside the window was an empty white landscape. His hand lay on the table before him holding a freshly acquired queen, his face lined with a confident unsurprised smile.
"Check" He warned his opponent.
"Gah, well what if I move this knight?"
Teppun's fingers picked up his own bishop and acquired the knight, with a light clatter of wood he added the ivory horse head to his acquired pieces.
"Check." He declared.
The white king moved another space, directly in line with his rook. Teppun collected the king with a confident; "Check mate."
There was a sputtering of air past lips. "Once again... You'd think after all this time I would have one win under my belt."
Teppun started putting the pieces back into place. "You know, there's probably a book here on how to play chess. Maybe if you read into it you might actually learn something."
"Read about how your priestess taught you chess to pass the time? Your funny."
There was a distant voice that rung through the library. Teppun recognized Marianne's voice. He stood gave the empty chair before him a nod.
"Until next time." He smiled.
"Pfft, sure. I'll beat you then..." The flicker of violet eyes in the shadow the library before Teppun opened his eyes.
His eyes flickered open looking into the ceiling of his forge's sitting room. The voice of Marianne the holy sword spirit made him sit up.
"Teppun, there's someone here. They are tracking you..."
