Chapter 346 - Chapter 717: The City Falls!

The rulers of Sky City, these true elites, had not been corrupted by the beautiful life created by highly advanced technology like the residents of the outer urban district.

After receiving "traditional and simple" education for a long time, or even what could be called Spartan-style education, their bodies and minds had always been under a strong sense of crisis.

The existence of this sense of crisis meant that unlike most of the foolish Celestial Realm people, they firmly believed that Sky City was unbreakable.

In the dead of night, they had already dreamed countless times of Sky City being breached by outside enemies.

To prevent the scenes in their dreams from becoming reality, they needed stronger defensive measures than those created by the sages of previous generations.

Improving the magic power created and stored by the sages of previous generations to keep Sky City running, giving it offensive and defensive capabilities, was one such defensive measure.

And the outer urban district was another.

To them, the people living in the inner urban district, the outer urban district was a buffer zone when war broke out.

They could do what they were doing now, allowing the outer urban district to buy them time to react when war broke out, using this delay to take the inner urban district as their core stronghold and wage a true defensive war against the enemy in the outer urban district.

And the role of the outer urban district was far from being limited to war.

As a closed space, Sky City was already under considerable population pressure.

With such a large population, a great many idiots had naturally appeared.

Of course, the reason these people were called idiots was not because there was anything particularly bad about them.

In fact, after wizards in Sky City had intermarried for hundreds of years, every resident of Sky City possessed an extremely good magical talent from birth.

Even the worst among them could be considered a little genius if placed on the surface.

Unfortunately, they had been born in Sky City.

The system adopted by Sky City was clearly not some kind of fair symbiotic system, and the residents of Sky City did not yet possess such a high level of morality.

So under a conventional social model, a large portion of people naturally became the exploited.

They contributed their own magical power to Sky City every day, turning themselves into dry batteries that generated power for Sky City in exchange for the most basic welfare provided by Sky City.

These benefits were already enough to let them live in drunken pleasure.

But because they had no other use besides serving as human batteries, Sky City would not provide them with more resources, such as educational resources.

At the same time, Sky City's ever-expanding population had caused housing resources to become extremely scarce, creating such intense competition that they almost had no capital to survive in the inner urban district.

And so, the rulers of Sky City threw them all into the outer urban district, this garbage dump, or rather, this war buffer zone.

They thus became Sky City's dry batteries, one of the "facilities" of the outer urban district's defenses.

The inner urban district was the true Sky City. Those living there were also true Celestial Realm people, the elite among the elite, the group of higher-level people who truly created great value for Sky City and pushed forward the development of its technology.

This move by the rulers of Sky City could be said to be extremely clever.

With this single measure, they not only eased Sky City's population structure problem, but also purified the personnel in the inner urban district, improved security in the inner urban district, and increased the production efficiency of the entire Sky City.

But for these "garbage people" in the outer urban district, things were not so beautiful.

They had been completely treated as garbage and permanently discarded in the garbage dump.

Yet they themselves seemed to feel that there was nothing wrong with this. Instead, they appeared to be enjoying it.

Until now, when the lower-realm wizard coalition led by Link had invaded Sky City...

"Phew."

After thinking everything through, Newland took a deep breath.

Sky City's method of governance gave him an enormous shock.

As someone who had once been from the lower levels, he could empathize with these exiles in the outer urban district and feel their anger and frustration, yet he could not think of a better solution. His feelings were extremely complicated.

Sigefin and the others, however, did not care much about this. Krell even glared fiercely at Newland.

After all, to most of them, Sky City was merely an enemy. Empathizing with an enemy was not easy.

Even Sigefin, an "old Celestial Realm person," found it difficult to empathize with the people of the outer urban district.

The education he had received had already made him believe from the bottom of his heart that he and the people of the outer urban district were completely different races.

Like the other Sky City heirs raised through this kind of education, he could only look at these "garbage" people with absolute rationality, or even outright disgust.

"We need to be careful from here on!"

After casting a teasing glance at Newland, Sigefin continued seriously, "The inner urban district is completely different from the outer urban district. That is the true Sky City, and the defensive forces inside are terrifyingly strong."

"Take those cannon towers that have been raised, for example. The cannons installed on them are more than three times as powerful as the city-defense cannons we encountered when attacking the outer urban district earlier."

"And because the cannons can be controlled manually, their accuracy and energy-control level are also extremely high. They are the main killing method of the city-defense system, and their destructive power is quite astonishing."

"Moreover, the inner urban district has equipped them with a magical city wall constructed from magical power and a special liquid."

"Don't underestimate it just because this city wall is made of liquid. I once saw the test records from when it was first created in the relevant ancient texts. Its maximum endurance reached an astonishing 10,000!"

"Oh, by the way, in this system of values, 1 is equivalent to the level of a normal adult wizard's full-power attack."

As if to prove Sigefin's words, just after he finished speaking, an Auror squad from the outer urban district that had already approached the inner urban district concentrated its firepower and began attacking the liquid high wall blocking their path.

However, when the spells they launched came into contact with the liquid high wall, they were instantly annihilated.

They could not even create the slightest ripple on the wall's surface.

This was quite frightening.

No matter how poor those Aurors were, they were still outstanding among wizards.

Moreover, their attacks had the added power of a coordinated squad attack, raising their strength another level.

They themselves were clearly shocked by the scene before them.

They stood there blankly and did not continue attacking.

And in that brief pause, the cannon towers erected inside the inner urban district had already locked onto them.

With a tremendous roar, a dazzling and terrifying beam of light pierced through the liquid high wall from within, instantly reducing the entire Auror squad to ashes.

Seeing this, everyone beside Link sucked in a breath of cold air.

Only Sigefin still wore an expression that said, "As expected."

"Th-that doesn't seem to be an Auror squad from our British Ministry of Magic, does it?", Newland spoke in disbelief.

Krell nodded.

"Indeed. The Aurors and hunters from our headquarters aren't that stupid. Judging from the badge pattern on their chests, those people should be from the Polish Ministry of Magic."

"But if I remember correctly," Newland continued uncertainly, "even all the Aurors in the Polish Ministry of Magic together could barely make up a single Auror squad, right?"

Krell rolled his eyes at Newland.

"That's right. All the Aurors of the Polish Ministry of Magic were killed by that one attack just now. But so what? What, you feel sorry for them?"

Hearing this, Newland did not even have time to mourn for the Polish Ministry of Magic in his heart and hurriedly waved his hands to deny it.

Krell did not bother with him anymore. Instead, he turned around and said to Link with a beaming smile, "Young Master, don't worry."

"The Aurors and hunters from our headquarters aren't useless like those people. Isn't it just the full-power attack of ten thousand ordinary adult wizards? Our firepower isn't any weaker than this!"

Sigefin frowned.

"But in that case, our losses will also become extremely severe. You all saw it just now. The city-defense cannons inside the inner urban district aren't for show either."

"That can be solved easily. When the time comes, we just need to put Auror squads from the other Ministries of Magic at the very front as cannon fodder, don't we?"

"These people are going to be disbanded and sent back to their respective Ministries of Magic after the war anyway. We might as well make use of them."

Krell spoke with complete confidence. The other hunters around him, and even Newland, smiled and nodded in agreement.

They truly did not care about the lives of the Aurors from the other Ministries of Magic.

They could even say that they hoped these people would die. After all, the deaths of these people would be equivalent to weakening the strength of the other Ministries of Magic, which would be very beneficial to the future development of the British Ministry of Magic.

But Link merely chuckled and shook his head after hearing this.

He turned his head and exchanged a glance with Dumbledore. The two then raised their wands together.

The demon dragon that had still been circling in the sky seemed to have received a summons. With a roar, it charged toward the liquid high wall of the inner urban district.

At the same time, a dazzling white-gold holy light shot from the tip of Dumbledore's wand.

The holy light rose straight into the sky and precisely struck the Fiendfyre demon dragon. It then transformed into a layer of light membrane that covered the surface of the Fiendfyre demon dragon.

This scene was extremely unreasonable.

Because Dumbledore's white-gold holy light was pure white magic, a completely positive form of magical power.

While Link's Fiendfyre demon dragon was composed of pure curse-type magical power.

These two types of magical power had completely different properties and could even be said to be completely opposed. The moment they came into contact, they should have produced a violent explosion.

Yet now, these two magical powers had been perfectly blended together.

Not only that, the blending of the two magical powers also produced a new change.

The Fiendfyre demon dragon covered in a layer of white-gold holy light suddenly began to change shape as it flew.

Its body was stretched longer and longer until, by the time it reached the liquid high wall, it had completely transformed into an enormous magical arrow.

BOOM!

The arrow plunged fiercely into the liquid high wall.

The powerful magical energy contained within it erupted instantly at this moment. It flowed entirely along the arrow shaft that had been driven deep into the wall, entering the interior of the wall before exploding directly inside it.

Terrifying light illuminated the entire sky. Everyone who witnessed this instinctively lowered their heads, not daring to look directly at the dazzling light.

The terrifying explosion seemed to have damaged some magical power conduits buried deep underground.

As a result, the brilliant neon lights throughout the outer urban district instantly went out, making it seem like a dead city that had lost all life.

When the dazzling light gradually faded, everyone discovered that an astonishing hole hundreds of meters in diameter had been directly blasted through the supposedly invincible liquid high wall.

Moreover, along the irregular edges of the hole, there seemed to be a special magical power resembling a curse attached to it, preventing the liquid high wall from repairing the hole on its own.

Sigefin was so shocked that he could not even speak.

This was a liquid city wall with an endurance strength of around 10,000!

Even though the attack method Link and Dumbledore had used relied on the principle of using an arrow to break through a surface at a single point, saving part of their power, and therefore did not actually require a "strength of 10,000," the power contained in it was still beyond human understanding.

Not to mention that simply looking at Link and Dumbledore's casual expressions was enough to tell that the two of them had not used their full strength in that attack.

'Is this the true strength of a legendary wizard?', Sigefin murmured inwardly.

Unlike Sigefin, who was so shocked that his mind was almost thrown into disarray,

Newland, Krell, and the others were not particularly surprised.

In their minds, Link and Dumbledore had long since become existences similar to omnipotent beings.

What was so remarkable about breaking through a mere energy wall?

So after being stunned for only a moment, they quickly recovered and began cheering.

The scene of the liquid high wall being broken was naturally witnessed by the other Auror squads in the outer urban district as well.

As time passed, cheers rang out continuously throughout the outer urban district. In the end, the entire outer urban district fell into a feverish atmosphere.

In contrast, there was deathly silence inside the inner urban district.

The state of mind of the Sky City guards at this moment was even more shattered than Sigefin's.

Looking at the huge hole that had been blasted through the liquid high wall in front of them, they did not know what to do for a moment.

It was not until Link and Dumbledore rose into the air amid deafening cheers and cries to kill, walking through the air toward them, that the cannon towers standing outside the inner urban district finally reacted and began their counterattack.

Unfortunately, even the liquid high wall had failed to withstand Link and Dumbledore's attack. How could a few city-defense cannons possibly do anything?

Link merely raised the wand in his hand slightly. They could not even see any magical light appear before the laser beams flying toward everyone suddenly vanished, turning into specks of light that drifted down through the sky.

After witnessing this, the allied forces completely lost their reservations.

They surged forward one after another, charging through the hole into the inner urban district and beginning the battle within its defensive perimeter.

Those rows of cannon towers immediately became targets and were blasted to pieces by the excited allied Aurors.

The remaining members of the Sky City Defense Force were fairly smart, and their will to fight was also strong.

Unlike the group in the outer urban district earlier, they did not flee when they realized they could not win. Instead, they split into squads, hid inside the various buildings of the inner urban district, and began fighting the allied Aurors in street battles.

At the same time, Link, Dumbledore, and the others officially entered the inner urban district.
