Chapter 25 - The Black Sun

"The bubble is ready!" Isolde yelled.

She waved her staff, and the clear jelly wall surrounded them again. Snack the Griffin huddled in the corner, hiding his head under his wings.

"Up," Cain commanded.

Isolde blasted wind magic downward. The bubble shot up through the hole in the glass dome like a cork in a bottle.

As they rose through the dark water, more pods fell past them. Thousands of black metal eggs were raining down into the ocean.

"They are everywhere," Isolde whispered, looking at the blinking red lights in the deep.

"Good," Cain said. He was looking at his new blue plasma sword. "More parts for me to break."

After a few minutes, the water turned light blue. Then white.

SPLASH.

The bubble hit the surface.

Isolde gasped. She dropped her staff.

The sky was gone.

A massive, black metal plate covered the entire horizon. It was so big that it blocked the sun, turning the afternoon into a dark, cold night. Thousands of smaller ships flew around the giant mother-ship like angry bees.

"It is a city," Isolde breathed. "A city in the sky."

"It's a target," Cain corrected.

A small alien scout ship spotted their bubble. It was shaped like a triangle and had glowing purple engines. It dived toward them, its guns charging.

PEW. PEW. PEW.

Purple lasers hit the water around them, boiling the sea.

"They won't let us near the big one!" Isolde shouted, trying to steer the bubble away.

Cain stood up. He looked at the scout ship. It was about fifty feet above the water.

"Isolde, pop the bubble," Cain said.

"What?! We will drown!"

"We are on the surface, Princess. We can swim," Cain said. "Now, pop it!"

Isolde cancelled the spell. POP.

The water hit them. Cain didn't sink. He used his new power from Luna.

[Skill Activated: Liquid Body]

For one second, Cain's body turned into water. The weight of his armor and the Ring of Burden didn't matter. He floated perfectly.

Then, he turned solid again and jumped.

He used the strength of his Heavenly Restriction to kick off the water. He flew into the air like a missile.

He landed on top of the scout ship.

THUD.

The metal roof of the ship dented under his boots. The ship wobbled.

Cain took his new plasma sword and stabbed it into the roof. He dragged the blade in a circle, cutting a hole.

"Knock knock," Cain said.

He dropped through the hole and into the cockpit.

Two small, grey aliens with large black eyes stared at him. They were wearing silver suits. They didn't have magic; they had buttons and screens.

"Biological anomaly on board!" the alien screamed in a high-pitched voice. "Initiate self-destruct!"

Cain grabbed the alien by its silver suit and tossed it out the hole he had just made.

"My ship now," Cain said.

He grabbed the steering sticks. He didn't know how to fly a spaceship, but he knew how to move a handle.

He pulled back hard.

The scout ship roared. It shot straight up, heading for the giant Mothership in the clouds.

Down on the water, Isolde watched the ship fly away.

"Wait for me!" she screamed, climbing onto Snack's back. "Snack, fly! Follow that idiot!"
